The thing that really stands out for me in the "Ethnic" style, is the much shorter, sharper attack, and the fact that the attack is often glissed. It's by far my favorite of the 3 styles.

Etheral is goosebump stuff. Any game featuring this will break selling records! Powerful backingtrack, but your voice makes it feel like a soft pillow. Ethnical also very cool and edgy. If you need to lead men to the battle, use this voice :) Ah, also reminds me of "Freedom Fighters - Two steps from hell"

The ''Ethnic Style'' always gets me right in the feels. It is so visceral. Amazing video!

I never really thought about how to communicate this specifically up front, I typically work it out during the production process with the singer, and usually the vocal guides/placeholders seem to help the singer well. Very helpful, thank you!

Very cool! Let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to cover that would be relevant to you. I have an extensive background in choral music, too. 🙂

@@JillianAversa Thank you so much! The thing I am most concerned about is making sure that they don’t hurt themselves when they sing, so a video about the basics of how to use the body in singing would be amazing!

First of all thank you for this video and this sharing of technique. It's really nice to take time out of that. Personally, I like to compose (as an amateur) cinematographic music that corresponds to stories and your advice now allows me to put words on the construction of this music. A big thank you to you.

I would love to hear more styles! I am also curious about how you prepare for collaboration: If the song is relatively difficult (let's say like an operatic aria), can you sightread the song, or do you practice the song? Does the cost of collaboration depend on the difficulty of the song?
@JillianAversa
@JillianAversa Год назад
The cost does depend on the length and complexity of the song, yes. 🙂 I can sightread pretty well, but I do always prefer to practice my music ahead of time as much as time permits, since I believe that leads to the best result!

Question: My friend Sveta Yaremchuk is actually in the earliest stages of wanting to do a cover of your and your husband's song Just Hold On as part of a projec tto send hope to her fellow Ukrainians during the hard times they are dealing with. We actually showed her this video, and she often times compares her singing style to that of Kirsty Hawkshaw. Would you consider Kirsty Hawkshaw's typical singing style to be in the etherial range? What was the style you used for Just Hold On? You guys may be hearing from Sveta soon, it depends on how the situation plays out for her as you know, there's the whole war going on and all. I just thought I'd ask what you meant by "etherial" in refference to Kirsty Hawkshaw's voice or even your song Just Hold on, would those be etherial? If so, then Sveta's style of singing could be clasified as etherial. She has a soft and high voice. I hope she is able to eventually get the Just Hold On cover going, when she does she will reach out to you guys. But first, she wants to find out if Marcus Schossow will be able to work with her on it. Thanks. I'm just a friend of Sveta's, and our chats made me curious after watching your video and sending it to her.

Yea, I agree that they could use a better word than 'ethnic' to describe the third style. I find myself thinking the three styles are much more similar than different. I think it's because you sing them all skillfully and it's a nice melody. A lot of art these days is promoted to tic a checkbox these days, so when I hear three skillfully rendered versions of the same song... I find myself thinking any one of the three would be appropriate if I was making a video game or movie. Ethereal = Real "Lord of the Rings" Not woke garbage. ACCEPTANCE Classical = Classical. Yup, that's it. CONFORMITY Ethnic = Impetuous angst. ENLIGHTENED CHANGE/ RESISTANCE TO REGRESSION I could see using the slightly different styles at different point in the plot of the story. For example: Act 1 Classical Conformity Act 2 Enlightened Resistance Act 3 Ethereal Acceptance

It's not from a full track - just a little demo @zirconst and I wrote for the purposes of this video. 🙂
