Finally someone on RU-vid who speaks about their DrPH Journey! So glad I found your Channel and get to have a bit more of an insight, really considering a DrPh after finishing my masters degree
Pursuing a doctorate degree is no joke. If you are not careful it will weigh heavy on your heart and mind. The best advice I can give you is do not get behind in your reading nor in your writings. Start preparing for your dissertation or capstone study even while you are in the learning courses of your program. Rather you are leaning towards the DrPH degree (clinical practice) or PhD (research based), both programs will teach you research skills, but with a different approach. For example, DrPH you will learn the same research scientific method but used in a community or healthcare setting in order to assess a gap in services. The determination of how long it will take you to get out of school will be measured on how long it will take you to satisfy the dissertation/capstone requirements. The slow mentor or the student stubbornness by not following the guidelines of the research requirements will hold you up. You want to make sure that you are following that guideline booklet to the very letter because in a PhD program, if you do not abide by the guidelines you can be dismissed and lose everything. If you cannot produce academic research or defend your research you can be dismissed after years of study. You walk away with nothing and the courses do not transfer. This means IF you get a second chance at another university, you will have to start all over again from course one. My biggest advise is research everything, learn as much as you can, and keep an open communication with you doctoral advisor. The information given is not to discourage you, but to let you know what is ahead. You can do this!!!!
Hi. I just subscribed! I completed a Doctorate of Health Education from A.T. Still University School of Health Management in 2012. I TOTALLY agree w/ you about "time management"!😥⌚ My wife was a tremendous source of mental and family support. She took care of our 4 kids as I completed my studies.😁 Are you planning on taking the CHES (certification of health education) exam?
Which school are you completing your DrPH at? I’m interested in earning my own PhD in public health, specifically health and behavioral sciences, and would love some advice on how to choose a variety of target and reach schools! Thank you for sharing your doctorate journey!
When you say part time, do you have classes every semester or mostly summer and winter. The Hopkins program mentioned summer and winter institutes but didn't give a concrete timeline. Also are you virtual or in person?
