I can't even hear the radio in my old S2 Elise at 60mph+ and I doubt it's as loud as these. The stock Exige V6 exhaust is so loud, you need to fit a quieter one to get it under some track limits.
The 430 Cup is an amazing car with all the extra carbon fibre touches and the larger wing it really creates more downforce on track and transforms it into the ultimate track day weopon. The full Titanium Exhaust system is pure automotive pleasure also with pant wetting sound an incredible car.
wow - what a an epic a delicious car, capturing exhaust sounds on camera is difficult yet this cars engine note bursts through - fantastic, thank you Pete & Paul for sharing this.
Terrific car and a terrific video!! What a wonderful and unique car, just outstanding. Even the regular cooking Exige is a fabulous car and reasonably attainable as serious performance cars go. And having a Toyota engine means you wouldn't have too many worries about the engine at least. Thanks for this one!
My friend had an Exige. OMG, it handled like it was on rails and oh so quick. Sounded awesome from the outside, but as the driver you didn't get the soundtrack! I too was not grateful getting into in a suit when off to a meeting!
Love your video.Love the car. I grew up in Cheshunt in the late 50s- moving in '63. Our house backed onto the Great Cambridge Road. Now the A10. Lotus used the GCR as a test track - very late at night/early hours of the morning. The police were not impressed. Hethel beckoned. Need I say more?
Awesome vehicle with a great back story and 400 plus bhp per ton. You’re driving some excellent cars of late young Pete, once again, generous owner and thanks to them as well as your good self for sharing with us.
This Lotus is the coolest car you’ve reviewed. Cars should be about lightness not all the extras you load them with, car safety apart and music of course. Colour is fantastic.
It's unladen weight is 1093kgs. In today's money that's light, but can you imagine a car with 2.4 x the power and is slightly lighter? Ultima Evolution.
Hi Pete, I've been waiting for this beast since the carvid Peddlers rides. OMG it sounds like a Banshee on heat 🤣 absolutely beautiful sound, the whole package is just so right and the engineering that's gone into just the gear shifter is incredible. So jealous Paul you're a very lucky man to own such a beast. Take care 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏁
Lotus make cracking cars, and they're great to own too. I had a series 2 Exige 240 cup (which didn't lose a penny in 2 years, by the way), and this week I'm having delivered a Series 1 Motorsport Elise race car. Not for everybody, but that's what makes them so great.
Hi Ped WOW that was Lotus at its best.🥰 The soundtrack was to die for, and that open gate gear lever a work of engineering art. Why on earth did they not put this car into limited production? I want one.😥
It was a Limited Edition Lotus built the 430 Type 49 as a mark of their motor racing heritage using the colours of the Lotus Type 49 F1 Car this was a limited run special Lotus to mark that. You can still buy a Lotus Exige 430 Cup as a mainstream model same engine exhaust carbon fibre bits the same rear wing & so on. Its an amazing car both on road & track & the Exhaust note is Pant wetting good.
❤️it the sound is epic !! I want that exhaust for my Toyota 3.5 V6 👍🏻. Mine doesn’t sound like that. What a friend Paul is 🙏🏻. Thank you for letting us all experience a piece of history and letting Pete give it some Welly!!! My kinda car 👏🏻👍🏻🇨🇦
Lucky bugger PP as usual Your look just says it all I could only experience that acceleration on an Alton Towers ride!! Love lotus, there was a nice black 410gt Evora for sale on the well known website with gold alloys and JPS livery and it was gone within a month as petrolhead love the old tobacco livery. 😍
Wow an amazing sports car . Lotus engineering at it's best. Fun to drive by your facial expressions. Well done I really enjoyed it. Cheers Dave from downunder DFDU 😎
That's a nice little screamer!!! I'm a sucker for V6 engines where they shouldn't be. I was the first (I think) to put an Essex engine in a Spitfire III (circa '69)
Is it bad I was watching the video and counting the MINIs that you captured on camera 😂 This lotus is a nice specimen. The thrust to weight ratio is insane. Also liked you can see the throttle linkage through the back window. 👍🏼
I was impressed by this, then I watched Harry with the Boxster GTS and realised why I like Porsches............different I know, but just so much more practical and refined
That’s an interesting & good comparison, Boxster is a cracking car. Every car is a compromise of some sort, I guess it depends on what you value at any given time. For me, the Exige/Elise along with the remaining manual Porsches are the last, best expression of manual drivers cars.
I had a 981 spyder too. I just sold it and kept the type 49. That says it all. The spyder held more luggage but felt a lot biggr and heavier and although a great car was no where near as much fun and definitely not as exhilarating as the Exige. As a daily car the spyder was too firm riding and had compromises. As a weekend car it was not as exhilarating as the exige, it was a compromise and cars that compromise never quite gel. Plus the spyder had artificial exhaust pops and bangs which you could not turn off which was annoying.
Great Car, great video and Pete gets the car completely. You can have 90% of that experience for £40k too in the form of the 350hp Exige V6 range. (Still supercharged but not charge cooled). I’ve done a few ownership videos for those considering buying one. Do it!
The poster car for the V6 Exige. Those pictures with the Type 49 Formula one car are fantastic. I remember when it was for sale. Just a bit too much for me at the time. Great car
Great vid Ped, does life get much better than driving a Type 49 with the sun shining 👍 I love how you educate us minion's, like the mid wk 180, I lost my leg in the army so it was very useful, cheers 👍
Funny that you said that the cabin is very stripped back. Still, it had more more knobs and switches than my old MG Midget ever did so I guess the MG would have been spartan!!?? :-\\... But getting in or out brings back memories of my MG. Especially when I had the roof up. You had to sort of stretch left leg in first, then fold your body and duck at the same time as you fell into the car bum first. Leaving copious amounts of hair on the roof's metal mechanism was always on the cards. Then with the help of both hands, pull in your right leg up as far as possible, but making sure the door didn't close before your leg was in situ. if the door did close your leg would be stuck between the steering wheel and the door. And just where the door opening lever was so you couldn't use that. Thus, it made it extremely difficult to reopen the door. But been there, done that on numerous occasions :-((... Not sure if my old body would be able to do that now. I'm not as supple, or as slim, as I was 30+ years ago :-((... I'm presuming that a lot of the "legendary Lotus problems" of Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious, ended when they started using Japanese engines? As for Lotus in F1. I can only remember them in their all black and gold worded livery of the John Player Specials. This lotus sounds epic :-))... I think the words "aural pornography", is a good description. Great video P & P :-))... @8:12 into video. Wasn't that an old style, 1990's, red coloured Series 8 BMW coming towards you?
At last...an engine that does not need those pops, bangs and artificial modifications...just a pure engine that sounds good because it is rather than because it wants to be. Hopeless if you have lumbago but memorable whenever you get in it!! Well done...don’t buy it..your licence couldn’t afford it!!😎😎😎😎😎 Drive safe...but grin a lot! 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Fantastic lotus!! My kids heard the car and came running to watch the video with me! Beat sounding v6 by far then any others I’ve ever heard!! Sir Pete we can tell you really enjoyed this car!
Hi Pete Great content mate the sound of that car is Outrageous lol And I lost count of the amount of time you said OMG lol Thanks for sharing this with us Pete
What a car!! The noise of that thing actually made my iPad vibrate. I've attempted to ease myself into a couple of Lotus's in my life....never actually managed it unfortunately. Definitely not built to accommodate 6' 2", 16 stone ex rugby players!☹️
Brilliant item again! What a fantastic car and o lovely tribute to the charismatic Graham Hill from the days when racing drivers had both skill and personality. It's a a big thumbs up from me👍👍👍👍👍
Well the sound was fabulous! I’m not sure if the look on your face was pure amazement or you were scared out of your wits had it been me it would have been the latter!! Oh and yes it would get me into lots of trouble. A lovely colour combination as well great video thanks.
Evening all! Sorry I late was busy when this was uploaded and will watch tomorrow sometime before Le Mans! Did you have to pay Paul for the fuel you used going up the same road multiple times? 😁
Wonderful car! I'll put my Lotus Evora GT in Fire Red against it for sound. It's had the GRP cat delete and added cold air intake, and Mario Andretti drove it before I got it. I imagine there will be no losers in this :-)
This thing at full chat must be as exciting sounding as a 90's F1 car. Ped, can you see if you can get hold of an Ultima Evolution? 1040hp and 980kgs.. That's got to be skid mark territory :)
I had a 2003 Ultima GTR - Chevy engine was mental - it blew up at 4000 miles - very expensive bits of engine all over place...not a recommended car tbh !
Impressive car, loved the car & video 👍❤🙂. One of the best V6 exhausts I think I've heard........the downshifts sound great👌. Two 400+hp small car's in one month, I would have a hard time picking between the Lohen mini & the Lotus.
Brilliant car and great video! Do you or anyone else on here have a link to Harris’ video with the car? He had it at Portimao but I could never find the video.
Hi Paul. Hope your keeping well. The Lotus is one hell of a weapon. Are there any updates on the meet and greet barring in mind the current Covid situation. Cheers. Mark
It is gonna ahead. If you have your ticket then arrive as planned. Max of 2 people per car. Will will temp test on arrival. We have limited numbers to half capacity of 160 cars 👍
Lotus have always been rather small inside the cockpit but this one seemed to be more accommodating pity there`s only one, should have been called The Highlander, there can only be one!!! Nice one Pete as usual whats next I wonder oh wait you did mention now what was is oh yes something called a Maclaren????
Worked for PMI years ago, back when it was a partner in the Ferrari-Scuderia-Marlboro team. During an executive management course at IMD, the 20 class members were all told to have their passports on hand and be ready for a bus ride at 05h00 on a Wednesday, midway through the week-long course. We met at our hotel in Ouchy and took the bus to Geneva where we debarked at the private section of the Geneva Airport. Our class, along with part of the executive management team, then took off in a small squadron of four Gulfstreams for Bologna. We then got back on a bus in Bologna and headed for Modena, where we spent the day with the Ferrari F1 team on the subjects of leadership, innovation, and winning. Jean Todt, who led the discussions, along with Ross Brawn, Paolo Martinelli, and a few others. We toured the R&D facility, manufacturing, and (after a fantastic lunch) the test drivers took us for spins around the track in a few cars (Enzo, 360GT, 360). I do recall passing the prototype GranTurismo on that track, a month or two before the Geneva Car Show. The GT prototype had black tape over most of its exterior design attributes, but the lines were unmistakable. It was quite a memorable experience. During my time with PMI, I also had the opportunity, during annual business reviews, to briefly share a coffee and chat with Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, and Eddie Irvine Jr. Cool times and good memories.
@@PetrolPed I made a big mistake that day. It was drizzling and slightly foggy on the track...so I was a bit apprehensive to have a high speed experience. I told the test driver that he didn't need to impress me because I had already been to the Porsche test track in a Turbo X50. He looked at me and smiled...we were off like a rocket!
