In this video, I review a stunning 1969 Oldsmobile Hurst Olds.
For the 1969 model year, Oldsmobile teamed up with Demmer Engineering and Hurst Shifters to create one of the baddest muscle cars of all time. Before 1970, General Motors had a displacement limit on intermediate cars like the Cutlass. A-bodies could not have a motor displacing more than 400 cubic inches. In the ever-growing power wars of the muscle car era, 400 cubic inches was simply not enough to satisfy the hot rodder's appetite for speed. 906 Cameo White Cutlasses were sent to Demmer Engineering to have the mighty Olds 455 installed. 380 horsepower, 500 ft-lb of torque in an intermediate sized car matched with a specially calibrated TH400 transmission was a recipe for speed like the world had never seen before. And Dino's 1969 H/O is one of the cleanest, most original examples still in existence.

Many people don't realize or know that the 455 was installed down the assembly line In Lansing, MI. Breaking G.M.'s own cubic in rules. The top brass in Detroit thought motor swap from 400 to 455 was being done at Demmer engineering & Hurst Performance. G.M.'s rule went out the window in 1970.

My wife and I drove a lot of miles & dated in High School in my 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass, Gold Exterior, White interior. I did not know about the Hurst Olds 442 until recent years. It would have special meaning to own one of the 900+ originals, probably an investment. Perhaps, a second option would be to build a base Olds Cultlass into a Restomod in the Hurst 442 theme like Chip Foose or Ring Brothers would. I forgot about the pull footwell vents until now.

1 of 906 that were built but really, how many of those are still out there? I like how he turned the front wheels to make it look exactly like an ad for the car back in '69. Probably the ultimate Olds for 1969 due to the fact that Olds wasn't allowed to put the 455 in its 442s until 1970. This specimen has some extra heritage attached. These phat Olds V-8 engines put down 500 ft-lbs torque. A great mod for these old Cutlasses is a curve kit in the distributor, also proper headers and exhaust, and a bit wider rear tires. I would only want the one in the video to be 100% orig. stock.

Miss my '70' F-85 442, luckily me when my brother got his first divorce he wanted a truck. So my dad took his Chevy Station Wagon and 442 so he would have a down payment. In 1978 I got to choose, you know what I pick. Going up Kellogg Hill on the 10 FW at 160 and still had more gas peddle, scary my friend said more. Car had electric switch on gas peddle for down shifting, instant back in the seat. Those 380 HP, you could floor it and one house length scratch and you are going to fast. It idle at 80 MPH, that was your Encino speed on the FW. Great car for going over Angeles Crest HW, just push peddle and you pass that car in front of you just like that.

Check out Nick’s Garage RU-vid channel out of Leval, QC Canada. Amazing old school car guy. Maybe you might like it Dino. Very proud of your stewardship of this beauty. My father had the 65 442 in high school brand new from Damriscotta Oldsmobile in Maine while working construction going to high school. He looked at a 289 British Cobra at a Portland Maine Ford dealership and then bought the 442 the next day. He laughs that he passed on the AC, but never regretted buying the 442.

Nice 69 of course that’s an understatement. I had the 71 Cutlass S which is the same generation. Those doors are nicer than my 2017 Jaguar XE lol don’t get me wrong I love the supercharged Jag it’s just that the doors are cheap compared to a 69 Olds or many from those days. The Jag would eat the hurst Olds for breakfast and lunch but wanna trade? 😂

So long as that famous Chinese Jaguar didn’t lose its brunch first. The XE has its engine made in Changsu, China even if the car is “finished” in America at all. It’s embarrassing hearing anyone say to an owner of this lovely Hurst/Oldsmobile that their Jaguar will eat it. I love cars in general but I wouldn’t compare the best Tata produced vehicle, Jaquar or Range Rover to a vehicle made by a partnership of two iconic muscle car era companies, like Hurst/Campbell and GM Oldsmobile. Linda Vaughn “Miss Golden Shifter” and all the great iconic hurst partnerships with Ford, Dodge, GM and AMC aside, just no

I had heard that one convertible had burnt down. The smartest thing George Hurst & company should have put manuals in these cars & not the lazy persons automatic. Yes I own one #421 & yes it has an M in the S/N.

I always wondered why no sticks in the H/O, but I think the Him and Hers shifters were the new thing then and they wanted to highlight those.
