Episode 1 : Magical Headpats go BRRRRRRR

when it comes to final bonding events just pick the one you like and not just because its what the devs "expect" you to pick. its one of my pet peeves when it comes to games where you can choose a "Love interest", however the game hints/suggest that you pick a specific one because that's the one they push as the "canon" pick. If you want your story to have specific relationships then do not give the option like how in Sky its just estellexJoshua and you cant change that and its still a good plot point.

It was the right decision to drop this without any warning. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. I think staying on the summary page would've prevented the opening from repeatedly interrupting your intro. Oh god, I was hoping you wouldn't pick Nightmare again. It's not like this game is insanely harder than the first, but... well... you saw that self-healing, right? Remember C. When choosing difficulty, you're choosing the difficulty of the hardest boss. "What's wrong with showing you ANIMosity, Celine? You are an ANIMal, after all! Haha..." (speaking of which, damn, this Prologue is really where the headpats and "haha"s went crazy). You thought Teo was dead? Come on, you should know Trails by now. No-one ever dies in this series no-matter how dangerous the situation is. Unless it's a huge moment at the end of a game. This is only the start of a game. (This reluctance to kill characters could honestly fit the new "This is a Falcom game" joke even more appropriately than the incest stuff. From what I've played of Ys, it seems pretty similar). Just realised, this is the SECOND time Elise and Alfin get kidnapped. Their recovery seems like it'll take a bit longer this time. For all their talk, most major nobles don't really care about the nobility. They care about themselves. They just like the nobility vicariously because it puts them at the top. So it makes sense Duke Albarea would want to make himself look better than Duke Cayenne to get to the top. It's a shame Elliot or Machias never said "Vita is love. Vita is life." Because they'd technically be right about that second one. It's literally in her name! Also yay for new Get Over the Barrier remix! Which version is it? You could make an accurate count using your videos. Maybe you could even do a "Glint of Cold Steel" for "steel"... but things might start stacking up a bit.

Oh, this is gonna be so much fun. Watch Rean cry manly tears after certain scenes. There is a cute optional scene later where you can see kid Rean. And Valimar is best wingman and Bro Bot Altina gets a lot of development in the latter half of Cold Steel. And uh, yeah, the events of Cold Steel 2 start with Lloyd breaking out of prison and teaming up with Wazy, I think. Like the entire Cold Steel 1 finale had Lloyd in prison. Or at least the last few scenes had him in prison. I guess Lloyd is currently saving everyone with Zeit and Wazy. Rean is doing his thing during the final chapter of Azure. This game has some amazing twists. I am excited for your theories and your jaw drops. Some Bosses will be pain. But you get fun new toys for gameplay later. I'm sure you'll love them. Doesn't seem like your sound is out of synch. Yet. I really hope you can avoid this problem. It was so jarring at certain points. Anyway, have fun.

Don't feel compelled to pick Alisa if you don't want to, the devs do lean towards her internally but the characters are pretty equal in how they're treated in game.

All the animations in cs2 are more natural than in 1. It was a key critcism Falcom recieved that they said they were going to focus on improving for cs2

Let's go! I can actually follow along with you this time. I love the regular battle theme in this game. It adds the extra urgency that you need to find your missing friends. Celine is best girl material. You will understand soon enough. Alfin is the number one Rean x Elise shipper. Altina is a very interesting and fan favorite character. Quite the ensemble of villains. Looking forward to the rest of your playthrough. :)

God I remember booting up CS2 after waiting for months for the pc release and then the battle theme played. I was in love man.

You probably could have avoided the intro video playing while in the main menu if you selected new game and let it hang on the difficulty select screen. but I dunno, never tried it myself =P. Surprised you heard alot of Altina. I thought I was her biggest fan (and Beryl), but I don't think I really mentioned her much in any of your videos yet since it's kinda spoiler. Most people don't really warm up to her until later on though, but I thought she was interesting since cs2 despite having a stupid outfit lol. Proud of your combat ability to notice upcoming crit events! Seriously, every time I see another person stream a trails game they overlook that thing and get nailed by the boss getting crit and stuff until too late every time. I'm like dude, you just got burned by that exact thing 1 minute ago, and you did it AGAIN. lol. Though I groan even harder when they overlook a hp 30% or hp 50% on the boss' turn lol. Magic Knights self-healing is a thing, really annoying. Kinda hurt you used Zeram powder on it. CS2 has certain fights that aren't especially hard to win in BUT have bonus bp conditions with strict time limits. Playing on Nightmare you're probably going to need the Zeram powder. IMO one of the hardest is one of the earliest, it's a boss fight where a certain boss can summon multiple time-bomb things (not 'C' don't worry) which all have their own turns and the turn-limit thing COUNTS THEIR TURNS. So it's really darn annoying. I would suggest to be liberal in your use of good consumables for that fight with no shame.

Also, i don't know if you noticed, but Xeno and Leo has Zephir logo on their jackets. (there's literally a word, it's not spoilers)

One thing they always fucking do in the sequels is the whole upgrading quartz slots thing Why does it always work kinda ok? Although imo it was handled the best in the sky saga,with the whole quartz level locking thing Here its mostly superfluos until you start racking up rare quartz

You will learn to love Magic Knights and their bullshit healing ability. Thankfully later fights will give you many more tools to work with, so countermeasures can be prepared.

Altina is not that interesting or important in CS2. But in CS 3 and 4 she will prove that she is true Phantom Thief and not Bleublanc because she will steal the Show and your heart. Also she has the same voice actress as Haru.

I agree with your sentiment of not liking Celine in the beginning. She gets *better* or at least grows on you a bit, but yeah, she's generally unlikeable. Also, I do not remember Altina being introduced so early in the game. I could've sworn her introduction was *SPOILERS AHEAD* Later when you watch her sleeping on the Pantagruel.

As I said last time, I'm not gonna write as much this time around, I'll mainly concentrate on the video for now, and some time later, I'll add to the comment notable stuff, like world-building details or NPCs, it's gonna be better this way with my reduced time. - Anyway, Welcome to Trails of Cold Steel 2, or as I like to call it: Trails of Cold Steel Civil War, because it's fitting on many levels. - You know, if you have problems with the opening looping back on the menu title, you just need to just click on one of the menu and boom, problem solved. - "I'm not sure why you'd go pick up the game called Cold Steel 2 without considering playing the game called Cold Steel 1" I don't know, go ask the people who started with Cold Steel 3 because NISA told them it was okay. - I really like Rean's first speech here, the first words he says here were reused by the Geofront to Lloyd during his prison time in fragment. The times he spent with his classmates were fulfilling, but the national intrigue caught up to them, impacted them directly, drove them apart and is now theatening to sever them forever. I don't think the game implied that Rean SAW Crow's shot or the Chancellor dropping dead, the voiced scenes are there for the benefit of the audience, but Rean know these events happned so he can still talk about them. - And we have Rean waking up in the mountain on November 29 with a talking cat voiced by Kira Buckland, the end of last game was at October 30, so yes, basically a month. He gets called the Ashen Awakener because he's literally the one who awakaned the Ashen Knight, it's nothing more than that; - And we're back to square one on the quartz department, because we lost all of them, way to go XD, and yeah, it's not glint of Cold Steel anymore, but Heated Mind is quite good as well and fits the shift of tone of this sequel. Also, fair warning, you may find yourself missing a lot more than in the last game, because they downgraded the accuracy, so you may need to take Hit Quartzes a bit more seriously this time. - Yep, as the calendar said, it's been a month since the face-off at Trista, but I don't think Valimar flew the whole time, it's more likely he crashed in the mountains and stayed there for a month; as for how Rean didn't starve to death, they explained it afterward that the knight focused his healing on Rean rather than himself, which is why he's still in bad shape a month later. - Annnddd, you get the answers on Emma you were looking for last game: she's indeed a novice witch from the Hexen Clan, you ask if everything is Erebonian legends in this arc, though Lianne Sandlot isn't exactly a "legend" in the truest sense because we know she existed, it's in the history books, the Great Knights and Witches however, were true legends and folklore, you could've found a book on it in the library in CS1, alongside Witches, Gnomes and Fairies were mentionned as well, do you think they exist too ? But to say, it's not just a CS thing, after all, crossbell had the legend of the alchemist of crossbell who built the Tower Temple and Fort (and as we found out later, were the Crois family preparing their ritual). - Did you noticed ? The animations in this game, especially the ones in combat, are more fluid and less rigid compared to last time, maybe it's less noticeable with Rean, but you'll see with the other party members. - I think I said it as well in the CS1 talk about it video, but yes, the prologue of CS2 is occurring around the same time as the fragment in Azure, both Rean and Lloyd were indisposed for an entire month, either by being in Prison (yrs, Lloyd was in Knox Prison, not a jail cell) or getting healed by a giant robot after nearly dying. - And we're finally in Ymir after being releguated to a Drama CD in the last game and we get to meet Rean and Elise's parents, Lucia and Teo Schwarzer, the latter being voiced by David Lodge, who voiced Jeralt in 3 Houses, "Igor" in Persona 5, and interestingly enough, he did the little battle quotes of Weissman in Sky Sc and the 3rd. And there's the summary of the situation: the nobles are dominating hard - In the Rean Elise Celine scene, you can observe the rare occurence of Kira Buckland talking to herself; for the deal of the talking cat, I'm sure she just told everyone about her while Rean's asleep; Celine attracting Elise to the schoolhouse is finally getting adressed, it was an action from Celine alone, and Emma scolded her right after for doing so, at least she apologized for that. - Rean has a touching moment with his parents - Toval also talks about about how they found Rean: he apprently received an anonymous caller telling him his exact location and then just hung up.... well that's strange considering Rean's been missing for a month, the only clue you have is that the voice what vaguely familiar to Toval, can you figure out the mystery ? -You mainly showed Alfin's talk of Elise and Brother, but she also worries about her family, Olivert is missing and his brother and parent captured by the nobles, and yet she puts up a brave front and worry about others and she's hurting the most inside. - there's Annabelle, you DID recognized her (Maybe I'll have more to say in the NPC part). - The hot spring scene with Elise is honestly amazing and follows up with their beef in CS1: Rean is beating himself to a pulp over what happenned at Trista and his powerlessness to help his loved ones, instead it was everyone else who sacrificed themselves to save HIM, he finally found a place to belong, but he ruined everything; then comes Elise to set the record straight with that mindset, Rean cares about everyone but he's completely blind to the fact that they love him too, he think kindness on their part is a debt that needs to be repaid, that he absolutely must give something back in return (he said that about his parents in CS1), but that's not how relationships works and it's an unhaelthy mindset to have, people care about you because they care, that's all, they don't need a reason for it or expect something from you in return, it's that simple, but Rean completely misses it because of his self-hatred toward what happened. - You have two new party members: Elise and Toval, I'm not sure if you checked, but Toval has an accessory that let him cast arts faster, so he's good for that role (and yeah, his S-craft slaps). - Yep, Tie a link of ARCUS is just that good to be the mid-boss theme for the second time, except this time it was upgraded to the super arrange version, though I'll admit you won't be able to distinguish the two on the first part since the changes are more subtle, it's well into it that differences can be heard. - Think of Valimar like a phone, he was out of charge when Rean was forced out of the cockpit, must he's been slightly recharging since then, so in the case of the magic knight, it's like he's using the phone when he's at 5% (which is why Valimar state before the fight that he only stay operational for 300 seconds max)

(as well as have unlimited bonding points so you wouldn't have to savescum bonding events) There's not much of a downside to it, since you can opt not to carry over anything else.

Oh,this was quicker than expected CS2 is a conflicted game for me On the one hand I prefer its more openess as you can walk from town to town if you want to On the other there are some game design decisions that will come later that puzzle me to say the least
