Only one of my bee hives survived the winter. I told myself that I would be satisfied if at least one survived but I secretly hoped for at least four. I made and edited this video with my phone

Sorry to hear about your losses. Last year 1 out of 1 of mine died. This year I have one hive and it made it. The main thing I did different was that in the fall I did daily mite check on the mite board. In the late fall the mite count exploded. The research I did said that in the fall bees can return to the hive with more mites than they left with. I gave treatments of oxalic till the mite count stayed down. My friend lost all of his hives last year. This year all of his hives have survived. He said the only thing he did different was that in the fall he put one MAS in each hive.

All three of my hives got trashed by a female bear with cubs some years ago when i was away for couple weeks. Haven't started over again after that.

Sir Mar's did you learn Bee keeping of off Uncle Mike Z? Or did you just get interested in it sometime?

David Talkington I didn't even know that Uncle Mike kept bees. I wish I had. I became interested in bees because my great-grandfather Herrington raised them. I didn't start until many years later.

mars1952 yes, he did...when your looking towards the pond at Aunt Ruth's there was a field to the left. About 50 yards into that field he had 4-6 hives. I went out to see the bees 4-5 times growing up. Mark Z would know more. Uncle Mike was quite the science guy... He was always doing experiments..testing the water, fur trapping etc. I understand he was within 8 hours of a masters in metallurgical science. But then the Korean War happened..he never finished the degree to my knowledge..he was a very intelligent man...I miss him..glad he found Jesus before he died..sorry you lost so many Bees..that's gotta be perplexing...glad you still have a hive and a queen to grow with...hang in there! I do watch your videos...🙂..you show some really interesting stuff...have a great day.. Cuz!!
