Against mongols. Do NOT protect your siege with pikes. Mangudai are fast enough and have the range to avoid the pikes and enough fire rate to snipe your siege, and even if the mongol player loses a few mangudai to the pikes, you will be losing more resources in the destroyed siege. The best way to protect siege against mongols is, and I know it sounds weird, skirms, they shred mangudai, and have the range to keep mangudai away. Sincerely: An aoe2 player that plays mongols a lot.
I was suprised he didnt mention anything as regard their really fast feudal uptime, mongols can be very scary when going aggressive on early feudal (like 18pop no loom scouts or 19 pop maa)
@@majungasaurusaaaa Hussars lack +2 PA with mongols so Skirm + Arb works. Extra HP doesn't help their light cav as much as having the extra armor would. That's why turk LC is completely dominating in feudal and castle.
The Teutons tip reminds me of a game my brother played as Franks against Teutons at 1400 elo approx. Franks have crappy ranged units but he went cav archers to surprise his opponent and it actually worked. And now the cheap self promotion bit, the game can be found in my channel cough cough 11
Mr Hera, I know AoE2 maybe did your head in a for a bit, people got narky during aoe4, but that's all in the past. You took a welcome break but having you back is like the ice cube to your favourite drink. Watching you play LoL was like the time Usain Bolt tried to play football (soccer to you). Something wasn't quite right. You were born to play this game so enjoy the kudos you get back! Great seeing your updates again (I watched your archive in your absence).
I love the edition of each civ representation, it looks really easy to identify every civ even without their name or icon and in just one look you know what to be aware of, thanks for the info man.
Would love a video of what niche/meme strats to expect based on civ/map/team comp and how to counter. For example, if you see Spanish flank on Arena, prepare for castle drop, etc.
Against Goth. Much players struggle and so did I, but now Im super fine! My main civ right now is Britons and they get countered by Goth pretty good... I start with a standard 2-range-build, rush with early archers and try to get some vill picks... If he is titanicing, we can end the game right there. My base is fully walled asap and Im expecting to get MAA-rushed. The Goth player will always go to Castle to counter my archers with Huskarls. I build a 2nd baracks, start to make MAA when I click up to castle and try to get a good number of them. But try hard not to show them! I also add archers all the time. Once in castle, add 1-2 tc, upgrade to xbows and longswords. Now I raid with xbows and the Goth is coming with huskarls => Suprise, Longswords! The huskarls can decide to die, or getting back and we kill vills or idle them. Goth doesnt really have a good answer to that army, while Im on 3TC-booming. GG

My Sicilian tip would rather be... Villagers forward. The first time I got angry and launched my whole town to their donjons it was eye opening. It works better when they prioritize donjons in great numbers. I have yet to find a solid strategy if they prioritize sarjeant training so, just listen to Hera for that one

@@HeraAgeofEmpires2 assume 40 champskarls vs 20 arbs and 20 hussars. how many champskarls survive until the hussars are dead? this question is probably quite straight forward to answer since it doesnt vary to much among micro. after that, x champskarls can approach the 20 arbs - which everyone can personally tell if (s)he is able to take that fight. in an equal numbers fight the (FU!) arbs would have to fire 9 arrows on the champskarls for each hit that they take. i believe you its not impossible, but the required micro makes it very hard to macro and defend against raids at the same time.
admittedly the scenario is not that realistic, since the hussars will just keep streaming in, so we kinda have to assume that the champskarl are just fighting against hussars. but that makes thinking, what do you need the arbs for? the hussars will do the majority of damage, so the task of the arbs is just to deal with pikes and camels? but even that is questionable since the champskarls can tank the arrows. considering all of that in a situation where we even assume that we get FU arbs (and hussars), i wonder how this can be a general tip vs malians, especially since hand cannons would perform better in almost all the scenarios presently considered.
@hera when tower rushing Sicilians don't they crush you with the higher garrison amount like teutons do and if they make a sergeant they can repair or fight? Just wondering.
I hope u make as/vs videos on closed maps like arena or hideout. Most of tips u gave us are also useful on closed maps, but some of tips not. Like vs poles, punishing in feudal is almost impossible, even they r shine, cuz poles can excute towerrush and age up quite quickly by their civ bonuses.
I mean, I have a hard enough time telling my non-English speaking teammates to save/give them to me. (One player actually brought me 3 relics, one game. What a righteous dude!)
My best tip against meso civs: try your best, once you find out you can't win, put ur villis into corners, wall them in and go grab some chocolate to help your frustration. 😜

For Italian Xbow is counter just skirms??? Or is there a better counter? Played someone online who massed these Xbows and even with 30+ skirms he was melting everything
2:45 Are Bulgarians cav archers really that bad? I think they get all upgrades except the last armor one. So they are Mongol CA without the extra attack speed (which is huge, I know), I wouldnt call those horrible. Their CA is probably better than 80% of the other civs
How to counter fc serjeant rush? If you are late to castle age is too hard to defend, cause no time to get enough monks. They can dive tcs essily with 3/3 rmor
unfortunately there was an ongoing background noise, and for removing that i had to use an effect which lowers the overall sound quality of the mic by a bit. i hope you can still enjoy the video
it's kinda pissed me off that flamish malita as a tech is still in the game. Flamish militia should just be a UU that can be trained in barrack starting castle age. And give them a tech that return 33% gold cost from cavalry units, which they were supposed to have back then. Of course, the price tag should be high.
