I really love this type of content where we get to follow the progress over a longer period! Doesn't matter if it's a success or not, learning from the process is part of what makes it interesting 😊 Thanks for taking the time to plan and create these videos, I know it must take quite a bit of work, it's much appreciated 👍❤
Yes, that's a perfect example of how you cannot control nature. Even if you give a plant perfect conditions nothing is guaranteed, however, that's why we love to grow greenery! Goood vibes 🌱
Had a lovely tenue years ago. Missed it so I got a cutting almost 2 years ago.... have been struggling with this one the whole time!!! 😢😢 Hoping the 3rd year is the charm. I do so love their leaves. Take care!
The way you shrugged off spidermites was mindblowing. I would be treating it, baging it, wiping the surfaces, inspecting the plants it was near, giving the cat a bath and that would be in the first 20 minutes.
Hello Jan! I love your videos. The way you talk ( I understand all ) , all the things that you say about your plants....It's a hard time for me and you give me back my hobby for plants!! Thanks!! Best wishes from the Canary Islands 🙂
I've *definitely* heard that tenues can be difficult to grow and size up and actually most of the time it *is* issues with it attaching to poles for some reason 🤷🏻♀️ So I don't think it's just you. Good news is that its looking really beautiful and the leaves look healthy!❤
The way my friend got her's to attach was by twining it to the pole and wrapping it with clingfilm, but once it started setting roots it took off. She also kept the moss pretty wet after removing the clingfilm.
Hi, I agree with @kaitlinbeseau. It is very valuable to see the progress over 1 year's time, and to hear what you have tried, changed, etc. I think we often learn more from what didn't work out as expected, that what did. Thanks
Just FYI. I got a Sharoniae after I saw yours and love it. It is sizing up so fast. Love seeing the plants mature because it helps me decide what I want to grow in my limited space
I enjoyed your update. The tenure looks nice and maybe sometimes, for a change, when you are starting to run out of plant space at home, it is not so bad to find something that takes its time to grow ;-)
Lol i liked the little blooper in the end! Ive recently purchased a massive amount of aroids, im going to sort of slowly empty out my grow tents and make room for the new ones from south america! im going to try to give them the best chance from day 1.
I’m not sure if you’ll read this, but I’d love to know the fertilizer’s ratios you use for your plants, or if you have different fertilizers for your different plants (say fert 1 for your philos, but fert 2 for your anthuriums). As always, love your vids! 💙 Can’t wait to see what’s next! 😄
Hey :) I use GT Foliage Focus (linked in description) for all my plants at the weak recommended dilution on the bottle (approx. 3-5ml per litre of water) :)
Lots of interesting questions here, but if only my healthiest could look as good as your duds 🤣 With its multiple new shoots and inflows, the little one seems desperate to start anew in the right conditions, and you seem to have tried everything. Very frustrating. Didn't notice the transition at the time but the new equipment made your production a whole new ballgame. 🤩
😹 As always, your brutally honest observations crack me up! You should give yourself the same grace as the plants though. Thoroughly engaging video, but you left us hanging what the little extra plant was and if it's still in the collection???? 😻
I had the same problems with my sharoniae cutting that I bought over a year and a half ago... for the longest time it would push out micro leaves and barely grow at all for no reason... it only started to improve, when It started establishing itself on my lazy plastic moss pole.... after I cut off the original node and root system, the plant started to grow and mature like a weed... I'd recommend you try and get the plant to produce more roots along the pole... maybe use seram wrap around the new nodes and hopefully once it estsblishes a new root system, it'll take off... my sharoniae was also pretty stagnant for a whole year...
Love this video! The timeline is so helpful to see. Occasionally I can get a stubborn node to start producing aerial roots by wrapping it in saran wrap. That's what I do when I buy a taller plant and need to get old nodes to attach to a moss pole. Mayyyybe that would work here? Idk, good luck!
I can pick up all my poles like that but one 🤷♀️ guess which one I always grab 🤦🏼♀️ I have no idea. I’m with you on the clear pots! Love them. Thanks for the update and for being real! Not every plant is happy go lucky.
Wow, I suddenly feel horrible about how slowly my fuzzy petiole has been growing. You say 7 leaves in a year is slow . . . . I think I may have gotten, 3 or maybe 4. And she's a multi-vine plant!! I wish I could get 7 leaves a year out of her. Maybe I need to move her into more sunlight.
I own a tenue and it seems to grow and size up very fast. Honestly, it’s probably the fastest grower in my collection (to the point where I’m a bit over it haha) The difference between the climate in SEQ and Sydney perhaps? Thanks for sharing!
I have a P. tenue as wel. I keep it a little bit on the dark side, so the inter node space is somewhat large. But it reached the top of its pole. And didn't attach either. It has grown 6 leaves in my care during spring and summer... so I think it don't like moss😂. I don't like to propagate it going into autumn. So I will keep it onto this poke, water propagate it early spring...
My Hoya compacta refuses to grow for me at all. I’ve tried all kinds of conditions and it is healthy, just not growing. I call her Pixie and let her do her thing. Some plants seem to want to stay babies. Maybe one day she will surprise me and put on a growth spurt. But it’s been 3 years so far.
What would you do about pest infestations e.g. Thrips? The recommendations i get is basically to wash and try to maintain a low population. You have so many plants so I'm pretty sure you've encountered something similar. Have you've tried predatory insects or how to you manage to control pests with such a large quantity of plants? Great chanel btw Jan!
I have never tried mites ..; just not feeling great about releasing them in my apartment :D I used to use Confidor Spray by bayer but have heard this has been discontinued ... given it was winter over here I haven't had any pest issues in months ... see what summer will bring :P
Ah alright, I live in a smaller flat than yours and I'm about to release 500 Orius beetles on mine. I can keep you posted if they swarm the flat or if you hardly see them. They supposedly kill anything they come in sight with that is softshelled. :D@@sydneyplantguy
i heard, that if you chop away the growing flower ,the energy will be redirected into the leafes have you ever considert doing that ? or do you think that will do nothing?
HI DARLING, WHY DON’T YOU TRY IT IN A LONG WINDOW BOX PLANTER SEEING IT IS A CREEPER FOR THE SMALL PLANT. HAVE YOU TRIED THRIVE FERTILISER. I FOUND IT IS WONDERFUL. GOOD LUCK, LOVE FROM ANNETTE QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA. IF YOU DECIDE TO GET RID OF THESE PLANTS LET ME KNOW.
.. Nephytis Swainei is a species of flowering plants in the Aracea family.. It is native to tropical west Africa.. It is a perennial of rhizomatous geophyte and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome.. The leaves are said to be platinum toned (to mee they look more like kinda silvery bluegreen), they are triangular and just above slowly creaping rhizomes.. It is a slow grower and thrives in low?? light to medium light and about 50% humidity.. It flowers willingly with orange flowers.. It is not eatable (should anyone want to try 😳) and it is toxic.. .. What happened to the other tiny plant??..
LOL For sure noticed the difference in your appearance over the year. Gee maybe I trimmed my beard it would take some years off my 74 year old face. OH Wait I am a woman no beard to trim. LOL fun video to watch.
You don't look 12, not sure how old you are but don't think you ever looled 35 either. You look about the same age as my sons, so I am guessing you were born about '94.
@@sydneyplantguy my youngest son was 11 when he started growing a full beard, he always looked much older than his age because of it. My eldest has minimal facial hair and yep he has always had a baby face...so yep!!
I can honestly say that my planty high rise health has rocketed since I started doing things your way Jan. My Verrucosum is lush on the top with 0 leaves at the bottom too but I'm working on that. Thanks Jan. 🙏👍🪴
