Why we love our RV mini split... This mini-split A/C RV camper is better than a rooftop air conditioner. The Mini-split heat pump is great for an RV It is way quieter than those loud rooftop RV air conditioners. It also provides heat along with ice-cold air. RV a/c is one thing you want cold and quiet.

I owe you at least three thank yous, and probably more as I plan to watch this video a couple more times. I am headed that exact route VERY nervously because im not experienced in electrical, solar, nor ac any more than a few weeks now researching for my new home needs/ DIY chores (on a tight budget, caught a deal on a fixer upper, 2004 eclipse toy).. Great job on your presentation, and I look forward to watching more (pulling up your older stuff now..:) I am grateful and have a lot of respect for those of you brave souls who don't mind taking the leap of faith on stuff like this I am single, happily, very frugal by design and necessity and very cautious approaching anything new in life by nature, so additional 'thank you' for sharing the quality info you gained as leaders forging ahead in new territory.. Well done at that!!

I'm in the same boat as you with the same rig that Rob and Sabrina have- def helpful watching his original install vid as well- I've also posted some comments/ides there that you may find helpful- one is a higher mounting plan off the bumber- the second is a jury rig for ducting some of the warm/cool air from the living room up to the bedroom using thermostatically controlled in line duct fans. I'm also building out a 3000 watt, 1600 AH @ 12 LiFePo battery bank (400AH @ 48v) - pretty sure I'll be wiring and purchasing charger/inverter for a 48v system- making the appliances in the rig more efficient and better performing in a booondocking no brainer assuming it's affordable. Best of luck on your project my friend.

Viewed you install video, great job. My wife and I discussed this subject over a year and a half ago. We live in Arizona. "Full Time RV'rs." 5th wheel with near the same cabinets as yours. The Phoenix area in the winter, the summers April thru Nov in the Heber/Overgaard area. 6500 ft.. Gets chilly. 4, 8, 10 degrees last couple days. (January) We are planning to live full time up there. I was in the HVAC business for awhile and took notice to your refrigerant lines and how you hooked them up. Question 1, was the charge in the outside unit with isolation valves and vacuum pump connections? Question 2, was it necessary to add any refrigerant, and what was the the type/number of that refrigerant? Question 3, do you recall the pressures you got on the day of install? Again great job and thanks.

I have the 9000 btu Innovair minisplit on my boxtruck Overlander cnversion. It is the 19/20 seer low ambient temperature -15F and I mounted it on a special frame with screens under the box right behind the starter batteries. I have a upper queen bunk as the "master" and the head unit is mounted up there. I can close it off with some curtains and it will pull 200 watts at the minimum and we have 13.5 kw made from EVE LifePo4 cells(the cheapest way to get high density batteries). Anyway if I run it just on batteries I can run it for about 60 hours as it does sometimes go up to like 260 watts and then back down. I havent mounted my solar yet, but I'm going with a 2350 watt panel set that I can use to power the AC. It will also pair with my Sungold Power split phase inverter to power my house in an emergency. I can plug into 50 amp and charge the batteries from dead in about 4 hours with the inverter charger and two extra chargers I have installed. Though I suspect that the solar would fully support the rig when I get them installed. So far the unit has worked flawlessly even at odd angles.

I like the quiet part! But the 'power' portion seems a bit off. 8 amps @ 120v = 960 watts. 960w / 12 vdc = 80 amps. That means a 100ah LiIon/LiFePO4 battery or a 200ah acid battery will only last an hour or so. Or is that 8 amps @ 240volts? (1,920 watts. 1920/12 vdc = 160amps) That's not adding in inverter inefficiency. Or am I missing something?
@RVLivingYet
@RVLivingYet 3 года назад
We have solar panels as well so we are feeding power into the system while consuming.
@jimsummers575
@jimsummers575 2 года назад
The difference here is on start up amps. roof top units spike really high on start up. These mini splits spool up and down very slowly so much less power required overall. Case in pint. My 2200 watt Yamaha generator will not start my domestic 13500 roof top. It draws too many amps on start up. This same 2200 watt generator will run a mini split all day long!!

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ru-vid.comUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Be careful using the heat if you are in a freezing climate. If you warm the RV enough that the furnace doesn't kick on, then the furnace isn't heating your underbelly. That means you could experience some freezing pipes. Above freezing, go for it, but if you are below freezing outside, I would use it just enough that your furnace still kicks on.

There's a lot I like about this approach to AC in an RV, particularly that it frees the roof to maximise PV panel space. I hear what you say about it only being 50lb on the back bumper but I did wonder about alternate locations. Your rear section looked narrower than the main body so there was some space along the rear/side, also at the step at the front near the 5th wheel coupling. Did you consider these as possible locations for the outside unit ?

No explanation on bedroom upstairs. Can you make another video and have a thermostat in the bedroom area so we can see how cool it gets up there in temp and show us the bottum area to with temp so we can see difference or if it keeps a steady temp with top amd bottum section?
@RVLivingYet
@RVLivingYet 3 года назад
Its the first thing we discussed at 1:40 the minisplit is more than enough for the whole rig, or you can push the air up there with a fan.

Question, I also have a fifth wheel... 38ft, trying to be prepared for summer in Houston Tx and want to get a mini split, will mini split cool the whole rv, like the bed room in the nose area?
@RVLivingYet
@RVLivingYet 2 года назад
Its depends on the heat, usually we can just blow a small fan to move air but if its really hot we turn on the bedroom AC for a little while at night.
@fabiangomez357
@fabiangomez357 3 месяца назад
Did you ever get your mini split installed? Wondering how you like it and how it's performing. I'm also in Houston and it's hot here. I have a 37ft 5th wheel and both rooftop ducted AC units went out so I'm using a portable ac unit inside. It's an LG 10k BTU that vents hot air tube outside but at 99 degrees outside it only cools down to like 90 -95 inside. I'm hoping a 12k BTU mini split would cool it down better but I need a ballpark of real world temps it can produce for living room and kitchen because I don't think it can reach the end of the RV which is about 40ft away. All windows have reflectix and it's sealed very well.

I live in Florida and am trying to live full time in an rv. I have animals and am worried about an ac unit breaking in the middle of a summer day while I’m at work and affecting my animals. Do you have any advice on this? Have you had any problems with the mini split shutting off/Breaking down?
@RVLivingYet
@RVLivingYet 2 года назад
The minisplit has been fine, you can also set the tstat of the roof ac to kick on if it gets too hot and they make temp alarms that text you when it gets too hot.

If your in a rv park with pets I would be more worried about losing power from the park than the unit having a problem.
