It's been over a year since our Kozyard Gazebo Assembly video and based on the response, questions, comments and connections made, it was time for a 1 year review to discuss how it's held up.
In this episode we'll talk about how our 12x20 Kozyard Alexander Gazebo has held up over through the last crazy 4 seasons we've had here in Ohio. We have also been told that this gazebo and the Purple Leaf gazebo have the exact same part numbers and can be assembled using the same instructions.
Tune in to see how our gazebo has done, what our dissatisfiers are, what upgrades we've made to it and whether we'd spend the money again for one of these. Let us know your thoughts and questions as we'll answer every one of them.

Great review thanks! We have the same gazebo and curious how you find the gutter drain system...not sure I like how the corner caps are designed and may modify for better drainage. Also, HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Allen + Roth 20-in 3-speed gazebo fan from Lowes which easily hangs from the roof hooks and generates a LOT of air.

We have a 10 x 12 and it is amazing. I used your installation video as a reference guide for the install. Thanks. But we live in Memphis and we're in it year-round. The screen is necessary here, mosquitoes are ridiculous. I must say that this gazebo has added a comfortable living space to our home. We have installed lights, fans and a TV. Again I want to thank you for the inspiration.

Hello sir, after watching your video I'm ordering one right now purple leaf 12x24. Hope it will arrive within a week, and if i have any hiccups i might ask here again. Just one question, did you mount original bolt with deck or you purchased your own? I'm planning to mount on concrete.

@itsmekinco Hi Bashab. Thank you for watching and sharing. We're thrilled that our videos helped you make a decision on your gazebo purchase. We hope it turns out great. For the bolts, I purchased my own. If you are mounting to concrete, I would recommend that you get drop in anchors and then use bolts with them. For example, check out our air compressor video. We used anchors to mount that to the concrete floor. Hope that helps. Come back and let us know how it went. Cheers!

Recently we got the purpleleaf 10x12 metal top gazebo with curtains. I had a guy install it. I called him to ask if it was normal that when it rains All of the furniture inside getssoaked even with curtains fully shut. He laughed at me and saidThey are not waterproof. It even listed Waterproof as one of the reasons why i bought it. It is nailed down on our patio now. The man who installed it got paid so he gave me no ideas at all. Is this just normal? Why does Purple leaf claim 'Waterproof' I am also i Ohio. Maybe there is a trick to keep the rain out? If anyone may know Thank you! Bummed out

@SpiritedWrenchers 3 месяца назад
Hi Marx. Thank you for watching and sharing your story with us. We really appreciate it. We hate to hear about your experience and we're a little confused by it because you state that your furniture inside gets soaked. Where is the water coming from? Even if we have our curtains open, unless the rain is coming in sideways, we have no water hitting our furniture underneath the roof of it. Not sure I would use the description as waterproof but you shouldn't have rain soaking everything under your roof. We look forward to hearing more. Also, where in OH are you?

Our gazebo is only an 8x8, but we found that weight helps with the curtains moving. We have 30 bolts on each side for weights. (They are 3/4 inch bolts 4 inches long - about 22 ounces each curtain.) They are inside flexible PVC hose for circumference and held on with Large Hold Back clips. We rolled up the hem to prevent them hitting our deck as they move in the wind. This works well on any wind under 30 mph.

Hey guys!!! I bought the 12 x 12 and are getting ready to install. Just wanted to say THANKS for the great install video and especially the follow up video!!! Hey one question. I am also going to want to add a fan and lights. My electric is on the side of the house, so thinking about running an outdoor extension cord down the side of the house, installing One of those flat conduit protectors you can walk over and not trip, then running it up the side of one of the posts. I was just curious if you guys had the same issue and how you ran your electrical to the fan and lights? If you have any tips or tricks or pictures I would love to see them! Thank you to a grateful family in the suburbs of Chicago!!!

Hi Mark, thank you for watching our episodes and sharing the kind words we really appreciate it. We're excited to hear how your 12x12 assembly goes when you have it all done. For the power, we have an outlet on the outside of the house right by one of the center beams. We bout an outside water resistant surge protector from Amazon with a 10ft cord. We zip tied the surge block to the roof and ran the cord down the center beam, secured it with zip ties behind the curtain so it can't be seen and right to the outlet. Our lights and fan plug right it up in the roof so unless you look up, you won't even notice it. Hope that helps.

A useful tip/accessory for anyone with a gazebo with curtains. I have just bought myself a 3x3 metre gazebo, not the same make as in the video, but has nets and curtains. I had discolouring of the curtains on my old (admittedly cheaper) gazebo. So with my new one, I have bought four 64"(163cm) high x 8"(20cm) diameter windbreak carry bag/covers, for each of the curtains. I fold the curtain into a tube, and easily slide it into the windbreaker bag, then use a couple of straps on each one, to strap it to the gazebo legs. It lifts the curtain off the decking, so the bottom of curtains are not sat in rain water. Its stops the curtains from getting blown around in high winds, and maybe damaged, like the curtain ties tearing off. And also stops the curtains getting discoloured by the sun.

We have the 10x12 here in Tampa, FL. It has been solid through tropical storm forced winds and a few nasty nasty high wind thunderstorms. It doesn’t leak. We installed a wet rated ceiling fan. And YES the curtains do blow around quite a bit. They are almost unusable. But they are quite long lasting even in the Florida sun. Ours was purchased in 2020. It is 4 years old this past June. It looks like we just bought it. I have done some awesome mods using Coolaroo rolling shades on 3 sides, with a bungee ball wall on the back made of the same material as the shades. The Coolaroo shades are a size smaller than each wall length to let light and breezes through. It also allows you to place hanging plants and flowers on the sides. I am considering hard-screening it this year. In any case this has been a dream patio purchase. No regrets! 😊

We bought brass groumetts(eye lets) and added them to the bottom of the curtains as we get a lot of windy days. We then pulled string through them to to secure to our deck railings via Velcro straps so easy to remove Question, is it safer to have the curtains closed and zipped during very high wind storms (not tornado high) or open them up and tie them to the gazebo posts to let the wind pass through. We are in Ontario and sometimes .at most we get a wind storm of 100km. My dad says it’s safer to let the wind pass through so opening the curtains and tying them to the posts. What says you?

Hi Waterhill. Thank you for watching the series and taking the time to share the kind words. We really appreciate that. For your question, we have Kozyard but some of our viewers told us that the Purple Leaf gazebo was exactly the same and even with the same part numbers. So with that being said, we couldn't give a vote for Purple Leaf but if it is truly the same, you could go either way. We still love our Kozyard. The high winds would be my only pause and to just ensure it is anchored down very well to the ground. Hope that helps. Good luck with your choice and we hope you get as much enjoyment as of it as we do ours. Cheers!

During heavy rains does the water hit the house windows directly coming off the house roof and hitting the gazebo roof with a lot of volume being washed on to it? Also anyway you can give me the roof height of it measuring about two feet into the roofs pitch? Just wondering how close I could put it under the eve of the house and have clearance. I'm thinking of putting up a gutter on the house then tucking it under the eave a bit. All the measurements only show the lowest point and highest point. Just wondering how close you went to the house. Great video thank you for sharing it with all of us.

Hi Ohu8one, thanks for watching and asking. We appreciate it. We do get some splashback but it's not a heavy stream of weater. The small gutter on the roof helps keep that from happening. I wish we had a gutter on the cut out where this buts up to. That would eliminate but that would have required us to redo the entire gutter on the back of the house. Not worth it in our case. The measurement that I have is 7' 6" roughly 2ft in. Hope that helps

We live just outside of Nashville and expect to use it year round. AND our install is very similar to your own....down to the brown brick! We also will have to move it about a foot to put it under the soffit and gutters. Once we get it to where it needs to go, I'll use lag bolts through the deck and into a 2x something for support underneath it all. Now thinking about the gutter situation. This is going under the gutters on our house so the water on our roof will not spill onto the gazebo. Thinking of installing something on the corners to catch and divert the water. Thanks again. @@SpiritedWrenchers Just came to a halt in our construction! We were going to put up the panels today. We discovered that the clips that hold the edge of the panel in are 1. plastic/vinyl, not metal, and 2. they don't snap onto the panel. They just slide on and slide off just as easily! We were trying to put the 2 end pieces of the upper roof on and we were able to put the panels in but the clips kept coming off! Any suggestions? I know that your clips were metal and a friend of ours who recently put up a 16' gazebo had metal clips also. I'm now thinking it's a case of the wrong part? Hi Clark, thanks for watching and asking! We really only close the curtains occasionally when we use the hot tub. The wind seems to have them billowing more than we'd like when they are closed, so we opt to keep them open. We are starting to see some sun fade on the exposed sections so we will likely pull them down for the summer. As far as rain and snow protection, we can say that any wind with it has the curtains blowing into the gazebo footprint about 2' and bringing all that rain and snow with them. If you could secure the lower zippers, there would be significantly more protection. Hope this helps, take care and stay safe!
