I’m so happy your getting your own clinic!! This will give other poc in slp a place where they can feel welcomed! And this is great for the children most of all especially the children of color!! Now I fully understand why there is this label of black owned businesses because it is DEFINITELY needed. Poc need a space where they feel comfortable, safe, and welcomed. Love this!

I plan on going to grad school for SLP. Hopefully it will be a good program for a black person like myself. We will always be opressed in any career field, but the key is to KEEP going, Keep God First, there will always be better times at the end of the road! Stay strong brother you got this

Man. I graduated on this day last year thinking I was going to become a physician (via untraditional route). This past year I took time thinking of what I really wanted to do in life I crossed your video when I first wanted to become an SLP. I was disheartened to hear that you had given up on the filed. After some thinking I realized , that I would like to become an SLP that works in a medical setting! I saw a program at Howard U that I have my eyes on, but I have to wait until 2024 to apply! You gave me hope. Pray for me!

This was a good video. I’m a Black American male and this video helped a lot fs. Speech Language Pathology is definitely a growing field and I definitely want to do exactly what you said. I want to have my own practice and eventually not have to see clients. as much. I want to have people working under me as well and like you said passive income.

As a first-generation college student and a black US military veteran currently attending Columbia University, I am grateful for the insights and perspectives you shared in your previous video. Your input has been valuable, especially as I pursue my major in Linguistics. While I still aspire to transition into the field of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), my hope is to encounter predominantly positive experiences along the way. I appreciate the content you've provided and the impact it has had on me to still want to pursue this field. Been doing security all my life so would love to make a difference in this area.

Hello - what a full circle journey that you have taken! I am also thankful to see your progress in that after seeing your first video I was sad at first because I was going to suggest to you at the time to do just what you did to look at other possibilities and options within our profession. I am also a black male SLP that was the first black male to graduate in the profession from University of South Florida 30 years ago this year 2024. The challenges you faced mirrors my own in many ways - so what kept me going is #1 - Its my calling! I am also a small church Pastor and the question has been presented will I quit being an SLP to Pastor or visa versa and my answer is most assuredly a NO because I am called by God to be both an SLP and a Pastor. I have had my share of trials but the rewards far outweigh the negatives. God bless you for hanging in there and not giving up totally on oir profession. In conclusion I have found there is an enemy trying to keep us from our calling - don't allow it to happen! May you be blessed my Brother - Dr. P. Hill ✝️🙏🏾

I appreciate how you've shared your story, it's given me a lot of comfort. I'm finishing up my first semester as a SLP grad student to get my master's and I'm the only asian girl in this cohort. This transition from undergrad has been really difficult, there are a lot of moments where I feel invisible and inadequate and it's really starting to hit me that this will be the reality more often than not in such a white female dominated field. I have a strong passion for music as well, I don't want to lose myself to find success and I really admire how you're pursuing acting. I hope to contribute to systemic change in this profession and I'm looking forward to learning more from you!

I really appreciate that you shared your experience with all of us. I’m very sorry that you had to deal with racist people as that kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. I hold my PhD in speech language pathology but have recently considered leaving the profession as well. I have worked for 21 years in all settings of the profession. I would love an opportunity to speak with you if that is at all possible. We have very similar interests from what I have observed and it would be great to speak to another male speech pathologist about what I am going through.

You are seen and heard. I can relate to feeling the exhaustion from racism. Sometimes I lose hope, sometimes I find just that one person that truly makes me feel like I am needed, I am heard in my profession and it makes me feel like I can surpass the negativity. I know that sometimes those battles take a toll, mental health is everything. Do what you love, do what you know will keep you aligned with your mental health. Thank you for sharing this update. I am doing my bachelors in SLP then on to my masters. I hope to one day serve my community and people of color ,they deserve someone who has lived their struggles and can fill that gap.

Very proud of you. You had the courage to do something that was very hard to do, and it paid off. I am getting out of the SLP world, as well. I am making the transition into tech as I write this. I know you will be successful. You already are, just because you are happier. You look great as well. Love the hair.

Thank you for sharing your story Jon. I'm so glad things have been better for you! I worked at charter schools at the beginning of my career, and I agree with you that it was a really positive experience. I'd love to have SLPAs work on my behalf but we don't have any here in NY. 😭 I agree with all your points, your insights and perspectives are so refreshing!!

I just watched your first video and thank goodness this one popped up. I’m so happy to see you smile! You spent way too much time in school to throw it all away. I hated my first speech job too. I remember quitting that job and walking into my parents’ house and said, “ I hate this choice of careers, I hate this job etc” and I’m joining the Air Force. My parents were dumbfounded. Are you sure? You are going to throw it all the way? I gave it another chance and it was better but I was still bored most of my career.

Hey. I love your background. So I think you worked hard to be a SLP. I get it. STRESS is STRESS! But I can tell you it's like that at MANY jobs. But you don't think that HOLLYWOOD is neg? Central Casting always saying they want pretty pretty white girls for this or that film or commercial. Or they need Asians yet their are too stupid to understand that Asians include many other cultures of people but Hollywood thinks of only certains. That is unfair. It's like in life everyone has a journey. Or Black people Casting Directors who want light skinned Black women or they want people who look a certain way. You don't think that is negative. Many actors suffer from self esteem issues, WEIGHT management is a issue. Many of them throw up in the restroom. You go to ladies restroom and UNION Actors in there vommiting because they don't want to gain weight. OMG PLEASE ... You are just finding out how the WORLD is. Racism is EVERYWHERE so don't just USE SLP field to say these things.. It's everywhere.. I am happy for you tho. So you're still working in your field but around people who RESPECT you. Well that is what we all look for.. We find the place where we can grow. Like planting a tree in fertile ground, etc. Anyway, so YOU don't want to see clients. OK. anyway thanks for sharing. It's interesting listen to your story. it's as if you just needed to RANT. But it's kool but you might want to put the link to it underneath because it was quite sad that video you posted. I just wanted to look to see how your thoughts changed if they did or did not. It's like your thoughts changed 200% ...omg what did ASHA say to you?? LOL Thank you for sharing and i am glad you found your place where you can grow and left the toxic place. cheers

What a shame to waste your education not doing what you were trained for. Come to Jonesboro, AR and start your own clinic. These kids need a "father figure" and there is so much you can do to help them. We need you. You will be happy. WHY DONT YOU WORK AT A COLLEGE WHILE YOU WORK IN A CLINIC??? We need you. Please contact me.
