I have to admit, I'd forgotten how much I love Natalie Merchant's voice. I remember, and I won't forget again.

I didn't give much mind to 10000 maniacs back in the 80s, but my interest in the band has grown with time. They didn't happen by chance, all of them were really special.

Natalie made the band and this is a wonderful trip to better music and yes they were very understated but I guess at the time it just made them more personal to you like your own treasure. They deserved to have made more money for sure but they kept real and i respect Natalie and the band to this day for that.

Going back to this now, i finally understand where The Sundays and The Trashcan Sinatras came from. Growing up in the El Paso, Texas area in the 80's there was no way in Hell a solid and introspective music such as this would EVER make it to the airwaves. It couldn't compete with the sensationalism of Michael Jackson and Madonna.

How did they teach you to be just a happy puppet dancing on a string? How did you learn everything that comes along with slavish funnery? Tell me something, if the world is so insane Is it making you sane again to let another man tug at the thread that pulls up your nodding head? How did they teach you to be just a happy puppet dancing on a string? How do you manage to live inside this tiny stage you can't leave?

Re: greatest Maniacs album...taste is purely subjective but compared to “In My Tribe” and “Our Time in Eden,” “Blind Man’s Zoo” is not the band’s best work. That being said...the band is my all the favorite and I saw every performance they gave from 1986 to 1992 in the DC Baltimore Richmond area.

To be fair, most pf the infrastructure back then had been built upon the blood and bones of the oppressed of many lands. Today though such oppression is not only beyond imagination but commonly justified and normalized.

Still super relevant. Just change the word "happy" to "angry," as that's the prevailing mood being fomented and exploited by right-wing media these days.
