10,000 Miles Later - Wish I Had Known... Pulsar LT on SILVERADO - [HEADS UP!] 

I make the circuit boards for the Pulsar LT. I have it currently installed on my 2019 5.3L Silverado. I have talked the engineers and made them aware of the emissions failure problem. They are in the process of testing this issue on my truck. I will let you know what we find out. I will post an update as soon as I know. Our engineers work very hard to insure that our products are top quality and that our customers are satisfied. I appreciate this channel and it's content. I hope I can be of some help.

Luckily not all Texas counties require exhaust to be inspected during the annual inspection. My county just checks that basics are working/in good order: lights, tires, brakes, has mirrors…

I have an update for everyone. I have been running my 2019 5.3L z71 LT with the Pulsar on it. I turned off the DFM disabler and ran the truck for about 100 miles. I didn't remove the Pulsar. Now the truck is showing I/M ready. This proves the the DFM disabler is what causes trucks to show not ready. You don't have to remove the Pulsar. Just turn the DFM on, (stock setting) and drive for about 100 miles and you should be good.

I definitely use you as reference when it comes to modifications on my trail boss . Also I did see a hack to stop dfm and start stop by running in L9. It works for now until I can purchase the Pulsar. Thanks for the video’s.

Lonestar - pulsar does tell you to remove it before servicing. That’s cause you can’t scan codes with it installed as you found out. OnStar diagnostics fail with pulsar also. Just part of the deal in having one. Sometimes when starting, they can get flakey. Check engine light and some other crazy warnings. Happened to me twice in 17, 000 miles. Just remove negative battery cable, wait 15 secs and reattach. All is fine. Worth it to me as it unleashes that 6.2 best u can short of an ECM tune.

Good to know, I bought the pulsar solely for the auto start/stop, DFM delete. I love mine.. gonna need to pull it off before it’s time to renew my NY state inspection! Thx for the heads up! Saved me $39 for a failed inspection. Still worth every red cent and minor inconvenience of having to pull it annually.

I'm in Virginia which requires inspection every year and emissions every two years. I went through inspection with the pulsar on my '20 6.2L LT Trailboss and had no issues, but haven't had to do emissions yet. Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely pull the Pulsar out for emissions this year. Looking forward to see the garage build. I'm on a 6" BDS lift w/ coilovers and 35" Trail Grapplers for about 18 months an get about 11MPG in my 6.2L.

New subscriber here from Australia for sure. Just ordered a new 6.2 LTZ Z71 1500. They are uncommon and crazy expensive here in Aus, especially because they need a right hand drive conversion. Ive been glued to your channel for 3 days. Great content.

Keep us up to date on your shop issues with your HOA. We bought 2 years ago and automatically eliminated homes with HOA's but I was in one in the past and it's navigable. You're also in a state where reasonable people are in greater supply

You scared me for a min on the Pulsar LT.. lol. I’ve had mine for a little over a year now and still love it, would 100 times buy it again. Lucky for me I live in TN were we have no state inspections.

As a casual buyer , I traded my 2021 accord sport to Carvana for a 2021 Silverado rst because of Hondas issues and I liked the v8 power and unaware of this lifter problem till yesterday when I started getting the knock . Just wanted a reliable vehicle but now I’m stuck with GM,s silent thorn that got me unawares. After GM repairs all my lifters, I plan on getting the Pulsar after the warranty. I now can’t honestly trade it back to Carvana because of this defect, even w only 4500 miles, so I’m stuck with this unreliable but beautiful truck. BTW we lived in Kona 16 years then transferred to Denton , which looks like your neighborhood maybe Justin. Now in Florida with no vehicle inspection! Thanks for the information on your videos!

I was looking into getting that same system for my 19 GMC Sierra Denali w/6.2L until they wouldn't sell it to me as I live in southern CA. These units are "Not" CARB legal here and this might be the reason for it. Passing emissions laws here is nutz to say the very least so the CA smog police don't like us doing anything to our newer vehicles that might make them better, more powerful, get better mpg, etc. Yeah, kind of wish CA would let a lot of these little mods go as getting your engine to run right and the way you want is kind of important to most of us gear heads. Having power and a good sound from your vehicle make the right foot and ear holes happy.

the " NOT READY " status on your emissions report simply means the system has not yet completed a self diagnostic yet. some of the checks require several miles of driving and/or under certain conditions, if you had disconnected the battery etc recently (losing power to the ECM) that would cause this scenario. It may not necessarily be your Pulsar. .

I kinda like the sound of that exhaust with DFM working, kinda diesel truck sounding.

if you put your truck in manual shift mode and leave it in 8th or 9th gear the transmission with shift through all gears like in drive but will not deactivate cylinders

Great video as always, I had the same one in my 19 Silverado and never had that issue with inspections, I did have one check engine light for not receiving proper ground to an injector but after speaking to superchip and my local dealership shop foreman which is a friend of mine he told me just to disconnect the pulsar for 20-30 min and reinstall, after doing that all went back to normal. I also think that whoever did your inspection kinda did you wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️, well you already took it off just get the inspection and put it back on. Hope your issue gets resolved! The nice thing about removing it and reinstalling is that the lt retains all of the settings it had prior to removal.

You don’t really have to take it off the truck you can just go to a different county where they only do safety inspections. I was an inspector for a year and told everyone that failed and couldn’t get it fix or what you have. To just go to a different county to get I done. It don’t matter where you go in Texas. As long as it’s a Texas inspection you can get it anywhere

I have a 2016 F165. No I did not type that wrong. It's a F150 with a 2.7 ecoboost aka a 165 cuin twin turbo v6. I used HP Tuner to raise my top speed limiter from 104 mph to 120 mph. For some reason the stop/start only work about 3% of the time now.

Live in Texas and we doint do that shit in San Antonio. All I do is pull up for inspection, they do lights and horn and small crap and I'm done.

You need a 3.0 Duramax truck! That engine is awesome.

I bought a 2021 trail boss without start stopping. Heated seats and steering wheel heated mirrors that was it for options bought it gently used with 39000 miles on it with no start stop the more options you have the more complicated it is keeping it simple is sometimes better to much technology doesn't always work.

Should have got a deoblo tuner. Has way more options and it doesn't have to stay plugged in.

You might be able to disable AFM/DFM completely stock. I had a range disabler on my 2016 Silverado 5.3 and it failed emissions, saying emissions monitoring was not ready. After searching the web I discovered that if you put the truck in M5 it will not allow AFM to engage. It allowed emissions monitoring to work and I passed inspection. You might be able to put your truck in M8 or M9 and see if your truck does the same thing.

I am a resident in Texas and have used numerous locations to do the inspection... never have they used the OBD2 port. Just a safety inspection/walk around.

As soon as you unplug it everything shows working as intended. It's immediate. No need to drive it around.

A few months ago, I bought a brand-new 2022 GMC Sierra Limited AT4. I found a cold air intake system that was carb compliant for California; I was going to order a K&N intake system, but they wouldn't ship it to California, so I was going to have it shipped to my brother and have him pay for I can't even pay for if I have an address in California, I was going to do that until I found the cold air intake system I installed I live in a county that doesn't require smog checks.

i dislike the cyl management and hate autostart but the different exhaust tones are no big deal.

I learned from failing an inspection with my 2015 suburban that I had to take out my range afm disabler , reset and run through a drive cycle to pass inspection. You can do a drive cycle in 15 - 20 mins if you know the protocols

I’m sorry you live in one of the few places in Texas that requires emission checks.

I would not be surprised if you failed from the CAI. I am not sure about that brand but these trucks do not like certain CAIs due to mis-calibration of the MAF sensor. Made my 6.2 considerably slower.

In Tennessee we have no inspection, thank goodness!

Hey, love your channel and i have learned a lot. I dont have the pulsar yet but i have pulled my 2 fuses under the hood in the fuse box. They are marked AFM but i think its for the DFM. I would love to see you do a video on seeing if it turns off the DFM. You have the cameras to do it plus the exhaust. I think it would be a cool video. Geeezzz that is ridiculous I myself live in Texas and haven't ever had them do that man. I haven't heavy modified my 2020 GMC like you have with your trail boss but that is insane they plug up

Now it all makes sense. I noticed the communication discrepancy between Onstar and my truck (Kristine). Onstar does monthly system checks and resulted in error in downloading the required information. I did reach out to range technologies and was told they would look into it. I just surpassed 1950 engine hours without a single engine issue and have increaded my MPG to about 22mpg (hwy). Fortunately for me, i live in a AZ county that doens't require a vehicle inspection, so no need to remove the Pulsar LT at the moment.

Bummer you didn't know that, I knew I was going to have to remove it before I take it to the smog station in California. somewhere in the instructions it says you need to remove it when you take it in the dealership because if they plug into the USB port it shows that there is something already plugged and it must be removed before they can proceed or reprogram anything. so I had called up edge products talk to one of their technicians and asked him about that too when I take it to get it smogged and he said yes you will have to remove it.. no big deal it's pretty easy. Your title kind of makes you think otherwise, so is that called catfishing.LOL😂 well I was glad to hear that It wasn't a Pulsar LT failure that was that you didn't know that you had to remove it before you took it in to get it checked out. I live in California and this is an illegal modification kinda, it's not CARB approved for California but they cannot board my warranty for using it. let me ask you this, did you notice after you installed the Pulsar LT did your oil consumption go away because mine did. I do not understand why it's an illegal modification in California because it works awesome and like you I don't like that DFM technology. I checked with AAA and they said I don't get my truck smogged for 8 years I don't know if that's true September will be 3 years so we'll see what it says on my registration renewal. I'm looking forward to doing a one-year review on upholstery on my channel. I did do a 1400 mile MPG drive video and my miles are the same as they were with the DFM active on other long drives. so how does a dfm save you gas money I have no idea lose money with oil consumption half a quart every 6,000 miles over 200,000 mi that I plan on keeping this truck for sure adds up do a little chunk of change at $8 a quart. luckily for me I bought five years worth of oil. yeah it's crazy I know got it on sale couldn't pass it up.

You'd think Texas of all places wouldn't require an inspection. As for DFM, they figured out what the issues was with the previous versions and they fixed it since then.

I love my Pulsar LT on my 8spd Elevation. I had weird vibrations in my truck until I put this in it.

After seeing this I’m really glad my 21 all star edition has the chip shortage DFM delete ($50 invoice credit lol)-all v8 all the time. I still have to turn off start/stop, but I do that before I even plug my iPhone in lol.

My favorite option on my RST is "DFM Delete" and with a $50.00 discount :P

I always remove the Pulsar the night before I know it's going in to the dealer, especially while it's still under warranty. It's so easy no reason not to especially when the dealer is so quick to blame the consumer when any little thing goes wrong.

Did you do the software update for the Pulsar LT? They made a software update to make it more 'stealthy'. I didn't have any issues passing the Texas state inspection with it.

The Bully dog GT tuner does all that and more and I just passed inspection with it on the same truck also have a muffler delete straight cat's maybe that information will be helpful for you.

I've lived in Odessa/Midland Texas for 5 yrs. Not once has any one plugged into my ODB2 port.

How about simply placing your trans in manual mode on 9 each time you drive….overrides fuel mode and no more engine stop at lights!!!!

Texas doesn't require emissions inspection, but if you live in a big city, it may require it.

Had my Pulsar LT fail on my 2020 GMC Sierra AT4 6.2 today. I was driving on 35 leaving San Marcos and my trucks check engine light turned on and popup came up saying Stability Control Not Available. Truck then went into safe mode with Engine reduced Power popup. Couldn't go over 40 mph. Pulled over and turned the truck off for 1 min then tried turning the truck on again with no luck, truck was dead with just the accessory lights working. I figured that issues could be the Pulsar because its the only mod i have on the truck other than a leveling kit. I unplugged the pulsar and boom the truck turned on and no check engine light. Pulsar had been on for a year and 4 months, roughly about 20K miles worth.

My man, just spend the money on hptuners, it's around the same price and you can do all this plus so, so, so much more.

What do you think of the new 2022 trail bosses? The new hoods look similar to the ZR2 style.

Idk where you are in Texas but JSR tuning in Hazlet can tune any GM. I used him for my Camaro and never had a single issue. He can deactivate your AFM, auto start/stop, throttle, everything you said, and all for $300. So it’s cheaper than a plug and play, and you’ll pass inspection with zero issues.

I considered moving to texas but the fact they “require” state auto inspections made me stay in alabama. Our governments reach too far as it is. Cars cost too much now and y’all gotta pay for inspections too. Crazy.

So in new York State where we have an inspection every year, I’ll have to do this on a yearly basis. Sucks!
