1:58 "I tow a lot of trailers..." I think that was a big part of Whitcomb's win. When his truck got squirrely, he had the instinctive muscle memory to make just the right corrections to keep it all in line and put the power down.
lol my neighbor has a diesel and the heaviest thing he's moved with it is a grill. No not even gas grill. Well once he pulled a car we could have started like 10 feet.
Wait you mean diesel trucks are to pull stuff ?!?! I thought they were to lift, put light bars and lights under the truck, and put low profile tires on some gay ass american force rims
You're missing the point a bit mike.To race with a bobcat in tow is a stupid idea.It could easy create a deadly situation.A bobcat rolled a truck that was towing it in my town this year and the driver was seriously injured hey.Look up the word 'facetious' mike as Chris has an intelligent sense of humour too mate
I'd have bowed out just from the load securement. or lack of it I should say. DOT regs call for 4 corner securement on a machine that heavy. They didn't even have that on it.
There's not a chance in the world that the bobcat meets cab unless jack-knifed. Even then... Extremely unlikely given the negative (truck weight) in pull, to positive (trailer weight) in tow. Unless this is a down hill raceway. You could slam on your bakes at 80mph...youd have a worse day with the wall than the bobcat.
5:13 No disrespect to Mr. Black, but they keep calling him a drag racer and he keeps doing the huge cardinal sin. "I haven't even looked up yet" YOU NEVER LOOK DOWN during a run. Especially with 15k + lbs going at wide open throttle!
If you have to look down and away from the driving to twiddle with your nitrous or whatever, you need more practice sitting still in your seat, getting familiar with your controls. I'm surprised that McCoy Black dude didn't go into the wall with his distracted driving.
Stan Patterson I mean.... he did say the truck got finished the day before so he didn’t have much seat time to begin with, but definitely shoulda kept his eyes on the track...coulda been a good pass
I get your point, but its not like they are doing 150MPH in the 1/8th lol. When he was looking down he couldnt have been going much more than 45 or so considering the trap was what, like 80 or so?
@@bharvey2010 i agree with you, but also, he was going 45 with a skidsteer, his braking would have been pretty much useless in the 1/2 second he woulda had before hitting the wall is he was closer.
That McCoy Black dude... Looking down at whatever he was looking at for half the run.. .What the fuck? How did he think that was some sort of great setup? Went to the wall. What a shocker.
@Balonium Falcon yea drives me crazy too. I’m a carpenter and like to use diesels for work and they are just way overpriced now that everyone wants to blow black clouds everywhere. Most of these trucks haven’t towed a day in their life..
Lifted trucks are at a serious disadvantage on this they get the weight pulled off the front end and they get squirrely, a lowered truck with that kind of power it'll pull it so much better
Robert Ries all the lowered trucks lost to the lifted ones. When it's lifted it gets pulled down at launch and sinks the rear tire and they don't spin like that lifted Sierra.
I totally agree we pull a 15 thousand pound 30 footer an i promise u stock it pulls way better than these show trucks these truck have to much weight an tourqe to be putting these after market suspension on plus those tires not rated to pull that weight at that speed an keep grip thats y they can't keep tne trucks straight
Sean McGeeney actually it was a work truck daily driver. He recently bought a 6.7 for work but yes it was a work truck here hence why it has full interior
All these trucks are impressive. My work truck is a '95 Powerstroke with 562,000 miles on the clock. It has pulled over 10,000 pounds of river rock and granite across Cascade Summit more times than I can count. What an awesome old critter!
I'm not sure I understand why they only use one hand to steer down the dragstrip? Why not put your nitrous trigger on the steering wheel? Then you don't have to look down and you have two hands on the steering wheel..
It would have sucked,in more ways than one. The 7.3 is definitely one of the toughest, longest lasting diesels ever made, but when it comes to making power they just cant compete! They guzzle fuel, and still get left behind in a cloud of smoke by a little 6.0 p.s.d. or a duramax. They quit making them for a reason.
@@andrewfarrell4312 they quit making them because epa government mandates said 6.7 liters was max displacement starting in 2004. So international came up with the 6.0 liter. 7.3 can make big power, but it takes deep pockets. Ive seen more than a couple 800 hp 1400 lb ft 7.3.
Here is the Original Semitic Text. You Guys NEED to READ this YaH The Heavenly FATHER HIMSELF was Who they Crucified for our sins and “HERE IS THE PROOF” From the Ancient Semitic Scroll: "Yad He Vav He" is what Moses wrote, when Moses asked YaH His Name (Exodus 3) Ancient Semitic Direct Translation Yad - "Behold The Hand" He - "Behold the Breath" Vav - "Behold The NAIL"
WTF is the point in wearing a helmet if you don’t do the strap? Add that to the fact that Kevin Jacob didn’t bother to put a seat belt on his fat ass before the racing down the track while towing 10,000lbs and DP is lucky this year’s DPC didn’t have a tragic ending... I always enjoy the Diesel Power Challenge, but would hate to see it come to an end due to stupidity.
What a surprise, the winner is the one with both hands on the steering wheel. He had a good feeling for what his car was doing. Almost all the other ones only had one hand at the top looking cool or something. Do you really think that's how you win a race?
Wonder if anybody noticed the huge audience of spectators cheering these guys on... and yet I watched it, waiting for a shred of excitement. On with my life now...
Just discovered this type of racing on RU-vid. That is pretty wild getting 10+/- tons 80 in the 1/8th. Would like to try out my old 352 gas 4 speed rig. Maybe 40 mph..........
immikeurnot what were you driving? 5500? F550? I know the F550 I drove barely touched 13,000 empty with a 1000 gallon steel oil tank and full stainless side boxes and tool cabinets mounted on back.
Okay confession time. I know nothing about trucks, never drove one, in my country there are maybe a hundred of them in total, I am by no means acquainted with automatic gearboxes and off-road rigs do not interest me in the slightest manner. Hell, I don't even like diesels. But I sure do look forward to yt coverage of this event each year.
Who races pulling a trailer with one hand on the wheel? No wonder they couldn't keep it straight. Why was the "professional drag racer" looking down at his shifter every time he shifted. No wonder he almost hit the wall... Cool concept, just poor driving... Ashame, some of those trucks could really perform
I always wondered why the Caterpillar setup didn't work out for GM and they came up with the Duramax? Seems like it could have been a success like Dodge and the Cummins?
Brandon Ruhl exactly what I was thinking. I feel I just watched last years not too long ago! I swear dually fords dominate the towing competitions every year though haha!
It's one thing to make a ton of power in a fast, light car, it's another to make a ton of power while pulling many tones of weight in a truck. Stress and strain increase exponentially. It's pretty crazy no one broke anything.
So a kid pulls up to a light with his first car. Its an older midsize with a low horsepower 4 cyl. One of these competition trucks pulls up next to him with a load attached. The kid decides to show the truck who is boss and gets the best hole shot of his life, smiling from ear to ear. Then he watches the truck pull ahead and beat him to the next light. It takes 10 years of therapy for him to recover.
LOL lets see your 1.5l lawn mower run these numbers in the 8th. I respect any vehicle that hits the track, but it only seems to be the "import" guys who talk the trash about larger displacement. Love seeing this stuff. Amazing brainchild racing
I have a 2004 6.7 Chevy. I did the standard EGR delete and cat delete. The fellow that I got it from, already had done dual Banks exhaust and A banks intake. I got me some XDP tuning with on the fly. I don't have a lift pump so I dare not take it to setting four or five, but I'll tell you what, I do not know that my camper is even on behind me. I did take it up to number four once when I gave my brother-in-law a ride. I had a full load of birch firewood in the back and when I turned off onto the highway, I gave her all she had, and it broke loose. It kind of scared me.
I encourage everyone that has a diesel (modified or not) to do a full boost launch with a 10k+ trailer! It's the most explosive feeling you will ever have!
the REAL TEST= fully load a chevy, dodge and ford each with A loaded trailer and race to the top of "PIKES PEAK.COLORADO". why has this not been done?. are the big 3 afraid to do this? this would prove with no doubt who is the KING TRUCK
These trucks are stronger than you think. We have a 6.7 liter Cummins and that thing can carry 4 3-8 of rebar, skid steer loader, with a goose neck. Keep in mind that truck we have is almost stock. Just a tuner and a DEF delete.
