I'm unsure when this was made, but Sr Teresa of Jesus, OCD., Your NOW a Solemnly Professed Nun. Praise God! I too have a Best/Close friend in Carmel. She entered in 1998~age 23. They belong to the Lay Carmelites...people who join the Carmelite life style in faithful prayer and sacrifice while living among the laity. There is a process to becoming a member of any lay order...3rd Order Franciscans are another example. These people wear an outward sign of their affiliation with Carmel by wearing the scapular you see. I believe Our Lady of Mt. Carmel appeared to St. Simon Stock and gifted him with the scapular as a sign of devotion to her. She promised certain blessings and graces to those who faithfully wore the scapular as a sign of their devotion to her and her Son.

Wonderful blessings! Pity that the actual ceremony is so old fashioned. So many young people would not be able to relate., It needs to be updated. i mean the songs and music....all the priests look so old too.....needs young blood..no disrespect to the old ones.
I’m a “young person” and no, if they updated, young people wouldn’t be entering the convent. The young people you speak of want tradition. There is a reason that the Dominicans and Sisters of Life are growing and the orders who wear pant suits are dying out
It takes at least 8 years to take final vows. It’s long for a reason. That being said, it’s not a beautiful call. Many young women are called to Religious Life. That call isn’t something that is easily ignored. For those who have received that call, it’s exciting
