How do you use it? I was just diagnosed with hand arthritis, I’d like to know more about this oil, also for the eye bags! Is there a specific oil brand? Thanks.
Great video, Claire! I agree with all of the 10 points. There are so many things we can do that are inexpensive or even free that can make such a big difference.
Enjoyed this, Clare. The low-cost ways especially 🙂 I probably only do about half those things. For me the most important is not stripping the skin with harsh cleansers and also Vitamin C serum and sunscreen. Stress is a big factor too and will affect sleep and diet. Sometimes it is simply unavoidable but we all do the best that we can. Thanks for sharing, you're looking great x
Thanks Val! I just interviewed a skin microbiome specialist (coming soon on the channel) and stripping the skin using soaps, certain toners etc is a big no.
❤ thanks, helpful posting. I noticed you didn’t mention any of the ‘machines/technology’ that you use. I have to say that even though the initial financial outlay may be steep…I look at it as cost per use. I am now at pennies per day for my red light panel.
Agree with everything. Ive been taking 20g of collagen daily. A big driver for me was knee pain. It seems to be effective for that. Also give it to my husband! Im thinking of cutting it to 10g a day or less. See if that changes anything.
Thankyou Clare, this is excellent information. This is a simple and straight forward video that is easy to understand. I'm no longer confused about what 'free radicals' are 🥴❤️ I also love Geek & Gorgeous!
@@thehonestchannel haha you've made me feel better knowing I wasn't the only one confused. I'm now looking at Omega 3 moisturiser's and Paula's Choice makes a good serum with Omega 3&6&9 and it's reasonably priced £34. I think I'll try that. I'm surprised to see that there's a few nice ones out there to choose from!
I very much like The Ordinary's retinaldehyde at 0.2%. I've been using it for about four months now, and have definitely seen a difference with daily use. It is only 15 mL for $14, which is a bit more expensive than the one that you mentioned that comes in a 30 mL bottle, but it is stronger. It is also readily available to be picked up at any Ulta, or often your local Target. I also like the fact that the airless pump that it comes in seems to flawlessly dispense a pea-sized perfect dose. I think that people tend to use it more than they need, which doesn't improve your results, but definitely makes it run out faster! For all of the retinaldehydes that are currently on the market, I have found it to be the best balance between effective results, and reasonable cost.
My skin improved when I began an all meat/ carnivore diet. I started carnivore for my gut issues, and was pleasantly surprised by improved skin. My only skin 'treatment' is beef tallow.
Dear Clare, just warning when it comes to collagen, you need to be very careful, It has caused me horrible heart palpitations and weird anxiety attacks. They all stopped when I stopped taking collagen. I drink a lot of home made broth, so I am not sure why a normal dose of vital protein caused this. But if you end up with too much calcium it can be life threatening. This is something worth research. I have a good metabolism, so I am not sure if this is the reason.
Sorry to hear you had issues with your collagen powder. Only 1g a day was found to be effective in the study I referenced and I usually err on the side of caution with every supplement I take. My motto is go with the minimum effective dose rather than the max!
Collagen can increase histamine. If you're sensitive to histamine it can cause symptoms like heart palpitations. Histamine intolerance can happen during Perimenopause.
@@MissKrisLoves no I don't have any of this but thank you, considering this happens also to young men this may not be the only reason. I also found the data showing traces of heavy metal in this collagen I am wondering if this will impact your health considering you take this every day and their recommended dose also is quite high, most of the collagen comp advise you to take a teaspoon and some even half.
Thank you for all of this useful info. I'd like to know, is there a difference between collagen and hydrolysed collagen? Is one better than the other or are they the same? Thanks, Clare.
Hi Clare! Great info. The collagen says take one scoop a day and it would last about 30 days. Do you not use the full scoop a day? The I got kind of lost when you were talking about how much to take per day . I always thought the more you take the better?🤔
Glad you found it helpful! I’m a less is more type of person so I look to minimum effective doses. Just 1g of collagen per day was found to be effective in one of the studies so you can use a lot less than a full scoop. I talk through in more detail in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q42cDpE-oPM.htmlsi=PPfJRswfJ3eyuddc
Thankyou again for your reply, can i please ask if you can recommend a more affordable moisturiser to use at night over the top of the geek and georgous retinol as unfortunately I can’t afford the one that you use, many thanks. Love your videos and your recommendations
Of course. I've linked my favorite lower cost options in the description where it says 'My Budget Friendly Skincare Choices'. The oils I mention in particular I think are great. I'm trying the Maysama Bioferm oil just now and use it as a moisturiser on its own. A couple of drops goes a long way so it's very budget friendly.
Hi, love your videos and have learnt so much from you ! Please can you tell me if you use a moisturiser over your retinol at night or just use your retinol on its own ? Also can you please do a video on your opinion of clean/organic skincare, im confused with it ( is it better using no nasties on your skin ?) can’t wait for your opinion on this ! Thankyou again for your great videos.
Thanks for the video, Clare. I am just wondering if putting some oil on your skin will actually affect the proper absorption of sunscreen? Especially if it is a chemical sunscreen as it has to do something to the skin right? Correct me if I am wrong.
It's not an issue with physical sunscreens as far as I'm aware. It's an interesting one though because most people would moisturize before using a chemical sunscreen so my feeling is if it was a major issue there would have been more education around it by now - or you would have hoped there would be! That said, I do see sunscreen formulators advising customers to apply their chemical sunscreen first before their moisturizer for maximum absorption. Feels weird, but that would be the safest route, or just use the sunscreen instead of moisturizer.
I find oils can break up sunscreen and makeup. I use my oils at night. Not scientific info lol just my experience. I have used an oil under my eyes before to help my concealer not settle into fine lines but later it will break up. So I stopped. It's great for pictures though Haha
Hi Claire, how do you find that collegen , iv ordered some but notice there isn't many reviews , I'm hoping on some skin firmness and plumping up along with the other benefits haha...not that I want much..Great informative video xx
I take about 3 grams of the DoNotAge collagen most days and find it easy on the stomach. It’s hard to say how big a difference it makes but I think it’s worth taking in small amounts
They recently discontinued it, along with a few other products. They’re selling their back-stock, so you may want to buy a couple of bottles. It may even be discounted since it’s now a discontinued product.
I love you Claire but I just don't buy facial exercise! Massages...maybe but only for temporary effects. But doing facial exercise can actually make your wrinkles deeper as we create more movement=more dynamic wrinkles. If we use botox to stop moving our face muscles why on earth should we do otherwise by doing exercise! Thanks for the vídeo!
I can understand where you’re coming from but not all facial exercises are equal. The ones Clare Maclean demonstrated for the jawline are great. I do a strange-looking one where I’m lifting my neck and kissing the sky. Really works under the chin!
I do most of these, which is great, but I had problems with collagen supplements so far (gets hard on my stomach), and still haven't found good vitamin C serum at reasonable price. And I am planning to get higher SPF face creams. When you're on the budget it's not easy to find quality products.
I hear you. Collagen supplements can be harsh on the stomach which is why I take a low dose. Have you looked at Geek & Gorgeous for vitamin C? It's $14 and I used it for years. Simple but effective.
Yes, I do love walnuts! The studies I mentioned pertained to omega 3s in fish oil and I believe there's a bit of a difference. Plant-based omega-3s are α‐linolenic acid (ALA) while in fish they are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
@@thehonestchannel Yes. But vegetarians and vegans need an option too. 🙂 And people who can't stand fish. So I just thought I'd mention it in case people don't know that there is an alternative.
@@nian60vegan omegas dha algae oil caps (which is where big fish also get there dha;) are widely available. Chia seeds hemp & flax also excellent sources.
Just because a food item contains some thing has nothing to do with whether or not it’s bio available plants just simply don’t cut it when it comes to the body being able to use them efficiently
In the description I've linked to a collection of lower cost but quality skincare products including a moisturizing sunscreen by Versed that I think is good value.
Hi Clair, is it enough to cleanse the skin with just clean water in the morning (for dry skin)? As you know, there are two different opinions; fat, toxins etc. at night. Those who say that it should be washed because we secrete it or those who say do not tire the skin with unnecessary products and wash it only with clean water in the morning. I wonder which skin experts support it. Thank you.
On Sunday 11th I’m going to run the first of two interviews with a skin microbiome expert. He’s written a book called Rebooting the Skin Biome which is well worth a read. Rinsing your face with water is enough for most people in the mornings. Your natural sebum helps feed essential skin microbes.
I've included a link in the description to a page that sets out my skin routine and the products I use. The retinal is by Geek & Gorgeous, and I use an oil to moisturise along with Calecim's multi action cream.
Hi Claire! Would you mind sharing how much / frequency of collagen powder you use? I have been blowing through this and it's too expensive for me. thanks for this vid!
Hi Angela. Studies show benefits from just 1g of hydrolyzed collagen per day. I use a powder that comes with a 10g scoop that I fill well under half of so I would say I take around 3g most days.
I wasn't aware of her until now and she would be really good to interview. I can't guarantee she'll say yes, but I've made a note to ask : ) Thanks for the suggestion.
The hyaluronic acid still has me confused. Dr. Brad Stanfield just changed his recommendation from high to low molecular weight hyaluronic suppelements given a recent study he'd reviewed. Have you seen that video by any chance? High molecular weight hyaluronic supplements tend to be a lot more expensive, but most don't even mention molecular weight at all so it would be good to know if it really makes a difference.
@@santanacaipirinha9536 Just watched it. He doesn't share any new research so it's hard to know what the change in opinion is based on. High molecular weight HA is said to have greater anti-inflammatory properties but from what I can see there's not a huge degree of separation. I'll make a note to do more digging on this.
@@thehonestchannel That's much appreciated. There's been so much conflicting or confusing information about this. I do not mind shelling out the extra money for high molecular weight, but it would be good to know if it's actually worth it.
I know I am an outlier ,but for others with ehlers danlos syndrome, or those without dx yet or that don't know they have it. Collagen will be a waste of $$$ & time. It is broken down then reassembled. Since EDS people make faulty collagen we reassemble it incorrectly too. Leading to more faulty collagen & no benefits.
RE: Faceyoga you said is good. But Ivan from Adipeau says Face yoga or dynamic facial movement is not good as it induces fat cell loss. He also said Hyaluronic acid is no good at all for the skin. Why is the information so conflicting? This leaves me confused. Have you done an updated video regarding Adipaeu facial fat cream? what is the truth? One lady who does face HIIT says face yoga does not work but HIIT (dynamic movements) does and she is expert in the field of yoga. I have had some not so good results in only a week after doing HIIT, I found my skin drooped more and I am not imagining it, it was very noticeable. What is the HONEST truth around all this. I follow the Honest channel to get the truth. I really want to know what is really the truth?
So Ivan takes a certain view as all my contributors do and I think the truth lies in good old fashioned common sense. If we exercise muscles rigorously through HIIT we lose fat. With resistance training it’s more about building muscle. Gentle facial exercises are not going to change your facial fat in any significant way. Like all things it comes down to balance. My own view about hyaluronic acid is more neutral. I don’t seek it out but if it’s included in a product I like I continue to use it. I feature a range of voices on this channel for a reason. It’s never a good idea to take just one view. There are not enough studies or data in skincare unfortunately to declare a single truth so we need to try things out cautiously and make our own minds up.
I just did some research on taking hylauronic acid in pill form and found that it should NOT be taken by someone who had cancer. It said the acid can cause the cancer cells to grow. I had breast cancer 5 years ago, so I will not take it. I have been doing the towel hitting my neck everyday since your video came out and unfortunately still have my turkey neck. It may be very slightly improved or it’s just wishful thinking! I should have taken pictures.
So you don’t believe in Dr. Fry? What happens if you have eczema prone skin what do you recommend for anti-aging because she’s basically saying that none of that matters do you agree or you don’t just curious
I've learned a lot from all the experts I've interviewed on the channel, including Dr Frey. I use skincare, but I take a minimalist approach. Her biggest recommendation is to use sunscreen daily which I certainly agree with her on and do myself.
I did a dedicated video on collagen a while back and talked about the lack of scientific evidence at this point for vegan sources which makes it difficult to recommend sources.
