Thanks so much.. I live for upcoming concerts as a kid, and I continued going to live music for decades. My last big one was Brian Wilson 6 years ago, and Fastball and Ah ha played our Best In The West Rib Cook-Off ( Free ).. Oh, and The Wailers were my very last live show ! 😊
Hi JT There is an album Called The Guitar Album With Various artists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Freddie King Rory Gallagher, Jan Akkerman, B.B. King, Albert King and more . I think I was 14 years old. I never heard any of these artists. The album was on Polydor.
I remember seeing that record ! I don't have it. Isn't it amazing how influential these certain records are to us as kids ! I'm picking up Freddie King "Getting Ready" on vinyl for 18 dollars today.. Good price, and I have always had it on Cd, better to have it on vinyl, though.. Thanks, again ! 👍

Remember seeing Elton John supporting the Who at the Roundhouse Chalk Farm in London, it was an all day Christmas Show in 1970. Saw so many gigs, hopefully when we meet up we can name drop who we’ve seen over the years 😊. Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Doors and Rory Gallagher etc and so many memorable shows. Looking back who’d of thought that so many people now think that was the best era for rock, specifically blues rock that can still resonate to this day!
I don't know Roy.. I had a feeling. even in the 80's when this music was getting swallowed up by other great bands.. That this era would forever live on ! You have seen more important artists than me, but I absolutely love the ones I got to experience ! Cheers for now..

Thanks for this ! I do have my originals as well , mostly Island US pressings that I bought in the 70's, and they still spin well and sound good. I do have a few Island remastered as shown, very good sonics on them ! I love indie bands and many different genres, changing stuff all of the time so I don't get music burn-out !
Great video JT! I share your love for “Bare Trees” and Danny Kirwan. I saw one of his last shows ever at the N.C. Motor Speedway in August of 1972 (Peachtree Celebration). Evidently Mick had no choice due to his mental health issues and substance abuse. What a tortured genius! Great Martin Barre story! I saw Ian and Tull this past December at the York Minster. Great show, and Ian donated every dime of the proceeds to the cathedral. (Saw Rory in 1974 at a little roadhouse in Cheraw SC. Wish I had a Time Machine and could go back!)
I guess you're right about Danny. The band needed a break, anyway ! Too much constant touring, and.. He Jeremy and Peter were never the same after Germany. Also.. Once they hit the west coast.. You know who was turning the boys onto .. You know what ! Very cool that you got to see him in the summer of 1972 !
Rory added Lou Martin on keys when you seen him. That was his best band he put together and played throughout the 70s. Irish Tour 74 album should take you back in time lol.
As much as I love the 72 live album, I love the Irish Tour 74 more. “Calling Card” with Lou is one of my favorite studio albums, but trying to rank them is a task I wouldn’t even attempt!
You are right about Irish Tour 74.. It's the complete package !! Ranking would be difficult, as a player ( guitar ). I'm not much of a ranked, but I would take a shot at Rory albums ! Deuce and Calling Card come to mind.. Thanks for the Rory conversation ! Cheers 🎵

Cool to hear that you saw Yes on that tour ! We were really unaware of the bulk of that music at that early part of 1972 ! We did have Roundabout on the radio, as it was released 3 months before this March show. West coast is definitely cool, and I think we tend to be partial to our home turf.. East and West ! I listened to the Big Ball, again before work today.. The Ed Sanders tune blew my mind as a 15 year old kid.. Good old fashioned satire ! 🤣

Amazing selections. So many of the same favs, and then you bring out the Big Ball, the best of the samplers! Saw same Wild Turkey show with Yes, Sabbath, but Yes only played about 30 minutes maybe. Mind-blowing Yes tour was following year.

This was awesome that you checked out mine. Las Vegas was much smaller back in the Golden era.. Good rock shows as well. Slade played their very first appearance in the US. 3 blocks from my house, opening for Humble Pie ! 1973 or so. Thanks, Jack 🎵
Those were all such great stories man, especially the Jethro Tull one. You sure saw a lot of great bands in the beginning of their careers, unbelievable. I know 80% of those records and they're all fantastic. Those are some great memories and experiences for sure. Consider yourself lucky!

That CSNY album is amazing as well as Gold Rush. I found that Slider record at a thrift shop last year for $2. I was sad to learn after taking it home that it skipped. You were on the Fragile tour! I goofed and meant I saw them ( Yes ) on the Fragile Tour.. Haha. It was amazing to see Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman shredding away ! Sabbath was good, but not as dynamic as Yes that night !

Great albums JT and thanks for sharing the stories behind them. You were privileged to have grown up around Vegas with all those great artists and having access to the concerts. That era will probably never be repeated. Music was evolving at rapid speed in the 60's and 70's, must have been very exciting to witness.
You are right about that era, never coming around again. It reminded me of Cameron Crowe's film " Almost Famous" the scene with Stillwater onstage, and the camera pans to the kids in the audience.. That's the closest anyone has ever come to capture the feeling of the early 70s ! Festival seating, although we didn't call it that back in 72-74. Thanks so much for this nice message, the smell, and the scene , coming into these shows. Waiting for the opening band to come out, lights go down, and we would get lost in our passion for our musical heroes up there on our local stage !
I must watch that film JT, its one I've not seen, sounds great. You should consider writing a book about your experiences. It would be good to capture that information for others to experience.👍
You really should watch it when you have a chance.. So many parallels with me in his film ! Thanks.. A book would be extensive, I was starting one based around my parents and the night life of Nevada back in 2002. It never quite worked out..

Hey Steve ! I really did get an early start at all of this ! Mick Fleetwood came out and flipped the audience off.. That's what started the riot ! I was very lucky to not get creamed by that quart beer bottle ! Others were not so lucky at that scary aftermath, shows were shut down there for over a year, and what a shame, end of an era, for sure ! Thanks, Bro ✌

Hunky Dory & Station To Station possibly my favourite Bowie. After The Goldrush was my introduction to NY. His 60's & 70's were amazing. Yes opened for The Sabs!!! They were a big part of a major life change, my concienceness had changed, stopped getting haircuts ( 1970 ).. By age 15, I had 45 records ! All treasures to me.. Nothing has changed. My records still mean the same thing to me at 66 ! Haha 🎵
I just subscribed after seeing this top ten vid. Outstanding stories! Obviously a first time caller here. I’m the youngest of five siblings, born outside of Detroit in ‘61, and my oldest brother Randy saw some incredibly historic ‘60s shows in Detroit at The Grande Ballroom, and Cobo Arena. MC5, TheDoors, Janis Joplin, The Who, Stones, and his wife saw The Beatles at that old hockey barn, Olympia Stadium. I couldn’t get enough of his rock show stories. Randy passed in 93, and I sure miss picking his brain for his memories. But here you come, on a random video, to fill me up with good feelings. My first concert at 12 years old was Elton John on the’74Caribou tour at the aforementioned Olympia Stadium, and remember every single moment from that show!I so completely enjoyed your top 10! Gonna go watch your older clips now. Thanks again! Loving you here in the Motah City!

Thanks again. At first i thought this was going to be just another pop gavorite list but you were the real deal. Too bad you didn't have a chance to see Deep Purple in 1975 before Blackmore left. For 6 months the toured with Rory Gallagher opening. Side note: Rory's next album was produced by Roger Glover!...rock on!
Thanks for this.. Actually, the DP " No Show" was in 1973.. On their " Who Do We Think We Are Tour", We thought it was " Machine Head ( tour ).. because the 3 tracks on that LP were all.over FM radio. daily ! Mick Fleetwood came out onstage and said.. " Rory and us will come out and play the blues for you all night long" !! I said.. YEAH !!! and the whole audience mostly screamed. NO!!! Mick then proceeded to flip all of us off ! and the mayhem started ! People got hurt, and kids that I went to high school with. That was my only chance to see DP. Otherwise, I would have had to travel to SF or L.A. to see them.
What a great video - loved your stories and reasons why you chose the various albums. Most would not be my choices (Jethro Tull & Fleetwood Mac being exceptions) but that is irrelevant. I was lucky enough to be a teenager in the 60's - great times - I was really influenced by the blues /folk & folk rock. Still listen to that music.
Thank you, Alan ! I have a lot of influences.. The Bay Area bands were always in our wave lengths back in the early 70s. To this day, I love all of those bands, I'd say more than the LA scene. Much later, I saw The Dead, about 40 times with Jerry, which influences me to jazz, and just about all genres. This video was based on my 1st 50 records that I bought with my own money. ( 1971-72 ) Your choices, I'm sure are mine .. As well ! Thank you for this, and looking in on my little video ! Regards. JT

And I still regularly play it. My early influences were Delaney, Bonnie & Friends, John Mayall, Bloomfield, Rolling Stones, Clapton. Then to folk & folk rock - Dylan, Joni Mitchell, PP&M, Fairport Convention, Pentangle Fotheringay etc etc. Also loved the Jam bands like Allman Bros, The Dead however we did not see much of them in Australia. He made such an impact and changed my life forever as well. I have all his records and since that day in 79 I listen to Rory almost every day still. I also love all the other artist you mention and have most of the very same records..

👍 Time keeps on ticking... Going through a box of old ticket stubs not long ago. My first rock concert: May 19, 1973 East Tennessee State University (lol yeah, I'm old, but still above the dirt...) Rory Gallagher - ZZ Top 4 bucks It was about two months before Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate, and his band was phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, BG and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and Billy made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. RIP Rory, Rod, Lou, & Dusty. Thank You! Keep Rockin' Billy, Frank, & Gerry
In '75, I turned 18, graduated HS, and could buy beer. I saw Jaws in the theater and the Frampton "Comes Alive" tour in the summer, but the highlight of the year was seeing The Who with Mooney in November. Great year! RIP Mooney and John. Thank You! I love your experience at your 1st show.. I was right under Rory as well, but as a power trio April 27th 1973.. Then Deep Purple didn't show. A riot ensued, I was lucky to get out alive ! A life changing experience, for sure !

Then Play On is such a fantasic album ! Danny's opener " Coming Our Way" really sets the tone for this special LP by the mighty Mac ! Wanted Dead Or Alive.. I have on Cd, I need a vinyl copy one on David's best ! Thanks for this ! And too bad we didn't get one more with Peter. Danny and Jeremy after Then Play On. I have almost all of the Mac, and definitely the " Wilderness Years". What a funny term for an era that was equally as interesting as the great Peter Green years !
Well.. For me, at age 14 and 15, these albums did ! It was the time, as I said.. A lot if firsts for me, two in particular. The first one I don't need to say.. pretty obvious, and the second, went along with the year.. 1971 and altering my consciousness ( you know what I'm getting at ). For me, a special and definite life changing time. If the beer bottle would have squared me in the head when DP didn't show up, it could have easily been End of life ! Absolutely.. I love the first two Butterfield Band records.. In my first 45 records that I bought at age 14-15.. I didn't have a single Stones record.. Of course, I loved them. Early on, I was light on Beatles as well !

The Division Bell, Pink Floyd........ albums that in some way changed my life.
Terrific list ! I have and love every single one of those records and absolute killer choices. The ones I chose are the records at age 14 with my own money, and were with me at a very big change in life..1971 long hair , dr**gs.. All of that ! The music carried me through. always ! Interesting bit of family history being a motel kid. I imagine growing up in Vegas was pretty different. We share a lot of the same interest in music growing up: Yes, NY, CSN&Y, etc. So crazy that some a-hole would throw a beer bottle, evidently drunk/stoned. I hate that type behavior, but thankfully it missed. Scary.
It was a massive riot once Mick Fleetwood came out and announced that Deep Purple couldn't make it to a slew of stoned kids ! Woah.. I barely made it out as I was front and center ! I like.. motel kid ! 😁 That too ! Haha. Thanks for checking this one out..
Thank You ! I had that framed back in the 90's.. I love that artwork. It came from A Hell's Kitchen wall on the side of a Chinese Restaurant in Manhattan !
Those are both Rory's greatest I believe but Irish Tour 74 has a mirrored DVD video of that concert with extra behind the scenes entitled the dame name. You can probably find it online or on Rory or Donal's site. It's like going back in time!

@@jtsrecordroom3963 this is as close to a time machine as we can get...I felt like I was backstage with Rory & Co lol plus walking the town of Cork with Rory narrating...my nephew found this for me( another gen of Rory fans!) and surprised me!
I believe there's enough history that shows that Danny Kirwan's behavior got him the boot from Fleetwood Mac. Kirwan lost himself a bit when Peter Green left. He clashed with Bob Welch and he flat out refused to play a show. "Bare Trees" happens to be my favorite FM album because of Kirwan's songs. But FM seemed to be plagued with genius guitarists who had mental illness issues: Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer. Rory Gallagher is my favorite guitarist. Never heard of him until 1975, didn't get to see him live until around 1991 on the Top Priority tour. David Bromberg is another favorite. "Sharon," "Bullfrog Blues," "Will Not Be Your Fool," and the best covers of "Come On in My Kitchen" and "Mr. Bojangles." I saw Bromberg in 1972 and around 1978.
You pretty much nailed Danny's issues ! Once the boys hit the west coast of the US ( 1969 ).. In the San Francisco scene, notable musicians were turning on Danny, Jeremy, and Peter to .. You know what !" and a lot of it ! The fiasco in Germany at the mansion didn't help the mental health of all 3 guitarists really, and the constant touring was relentless ! He really did clash with Bob, and in turn, Bob did a good job of hanging in there with Danny being so uneven at times. The road back then was brutal ! Lots of dates, lots of shows was enough to wear many good man down ! Thank you 👍

so for number 3. you should see the records well loved my Queen record has tape around the sleeve the lyric sheet Van Halen -5150 a little bit of tape by the sleeve Boston has drops of a patch cardboard missing by the names of the band members. these records were handled there original records purchased from Caldors, Bradles, Korvettes, Record world , music den originals.
Very Nice.. I bet they sound good, Mark ! We play the record, not the jacket.. right ! I just received Secret Treaties Blue Oyster Cult from a customer at work.. I love that jacket art work. Luckily, I was able to take an eraser and get al of the dirt of of it.. I brought it back to its original good looks and glory !
Crumb didn't do "The Fabulous Freak Brothers,: That was primarily Gilbert Sheldon. And, also, wasn't "Dead Babys" on "Billion Dollar Baby's?" Very cool. Peace on earth.
First part you have right.. It was Gilbert Shelton.. I forgot, it's been a while ! Dead Babies is definitely on "Killer" Thanks so much.. I needed to know that about Shelton. So important, right up there with Crumb.
I just did some more follow-up. First off his last name is.. Shelton, and secondly, you are right on the money. He was the sole creator of " The Furry Freak Brothers" !! I liked Fat Freddie's cat ! Haha 🤣
Elton John's 3rd album was released in Jan of 71? I thought 11-17-70 (an album you talk about ) was released in Jan of 71. I saw that tour in early 71. It was recorded in Nov of 70. I don't see how his 3rd album could also have been released in Jan of 71. Something's odd about that timeline.
OK.. I didn't say Elton was performing Madman in its entirety. I said that he performed Tumbleweed material at my show in Sept. of 1971. I didn't say anything about the great live album 11/ 17 / 70. I did say that from my set- list from that night in Las Vegas before the San Diego.show, and then jumping to Tokyo... That Elton performed at least two songs from his upcoming album ( Madman released Nov. '71 ) that night ! I wasn't counting 11/17 /70 ( A Live Album as his studio catalog.. Either way, we both saw him in 1971.. Agreed ! And by the way.. Thanks for watching !
And yes.. Elton's 3rd album was released in the US in Jan. Of 1971 ( Tumbleweed ) Counting the studio albums from Empty Sky.. Not including the amazing live album 11 17 70. I had to go back and make sure I had it right. Tumbleweed.. The true 3rd studio album was released in the UK in the fall of 1970. Thanks for the challenge !

Mark.. This is a lot of questions, and way too many.. It borderlines.. Rude ! Is it because you watched an 18 minute video of mine, so you're gonna make me work for the same amount of time ? I'll answer some of them, alright ! first off.. Records that changed my life because I stopped getting haircuts at age 14, along with buying these records, and started doing dr**gs at this age.. Life changing, for sure !
Smith was a rock band. I Was 11 in 1968.. I do have all of those LP's that you mentioned, and I have other KISS albums. I never owned a KISS album on vinyl until a few years ago.. The vinyl community got me into the band more than I ever would have, and now .. I like them.

Yeah.. He was great in 75-76. I'm gonna say that I like him better as a trio without that keyboard player. I think Hammond B3 would have been a better choice for keys with Rory. Don't get me wrong, Lou Martin was one hell of a player, I didn't care for his tinkly tone he was using. I'm alright with it. I just much prefer Rory when he once again went as a 3 piece !
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Wow, I wish I could say something like that. Lour Martin is not exactly my favourite keyboard player either. IIrc he played organ on a few songs. My point is rather that RG kept on improving after 1972. But my view is highly influenced by my preference for early 1970s hardrock and especially Deep Purple. So Tattoo and Calling Hard are my favrourite RG studio albums, so of course I have collected live versions of their songs. RG has build quite a reputation in The Netherlands in the 1970s with his live performances. Ane story - I don't know how reliable it is, but it is certainly typical - tells that an RG show in Rotterdam began too late. When he was done there were no trains anymore until early next morning. So a huge part of the audience was stuck. When RG learned about this he went back to stage and kept on playing until it was time to catch the first trains. In the 1990s German WDR broadcasted many RG concerts late Saturday night and earlly Sunday morning. That's how I learned how awesome he was on stage.

What a bummer that they were a no-show in Vegas ' 73.. I seriously was lucky not to get slammed in the head by that large beer bottle ! Others from my high school were injured Mick Fleetwood added fuel to the fire by flipping all of us off.. Instantly, that's when the riot started. He had offered to come out and play blues with Rory.. All night long.. I said YEAH ! and everyone else said.. NO ! Kids were there for Deep Purple.

Agreed with Hotel California ! I don't care for that record.. The first two and the 3rd Eagles LP's are alright in my book. Life changing ?.. Yes, I almost died, and luckily escaped a massive head injury at the Deep Purple riot.. And these other key records that I mentioned😮 are where I grew my hair very long, and started experimenting heavily, quite a change from my young life before.. Also, switched from drums to guitar because of these records.. Life changing, does that qualify ? Thanks for watching..🎵
