in love with those neck and bridge positions. always loved that sound from a tele but didn’t want another guitar taking up space (sacrilege, i know, but space is a premium for me). thanks for the vid!

I got mine! I went the Tech rout. If your Strat doesn't have a pickguard, good luck.
@MattsGAP
@MattsGAP 2 месяца назад
A good tech is always a good idea, especially if you have to make permanent alterations to your guitar, did your tech have to make more room for the switch? Thanks for watching!
@peterbishop9771
@peterbishop9771 2 месяца назад
@@MattsGAP lucky I have a Warmoth body with a quarter inch top. The Tech had to dremel the switch space to get it to fit. He did excellent work and my Seymour Duncan Texas HOT Antiquity pickups have a wonderful new dimension.

@MattsGAP 2 месяца назад
@peterbishop9771 happy it worked out for you, in my younger days I took a chisel to a Strat body to make a set of pickups fit. I made a horrid mess and regretted it for a long time after. A decent tech is worth every penny imo!

Thanks for the Vid! I was wondering if you use the Tone for Neck and Middle or Neck and Bridge? Also why did you chose variant B for wiring position 6? you have N M & B in series instead of variant A where you can have the M & B in series? do you see any advantage with having all 3 the pickups in series instead of only the the bridge and neck?
@MattsGAP
@MattsGAP 2 года назад
Thanks for watching. I didn't choose the the variant, I followed the wiring diagram included, and the majority was pre-wired for me. I like the sounds I got tbh, it would be interesting to explore the others though!

Thank you for the nice and helpfull review. Finally someone who wired the freeway switch where is the position of 3 picks all together in series... In my opinion the free way switch could be better and should have 12 positions instead of 10 . Now we are still missing one position. The bridge and middle pick up in series... and the 12th position could be a kill switch... just when you pauze playing... nice looking guitar with the tortoise plate by the way.
@MattsGAP

Yeah that would be cool, I think having a 12 position switch might be a hard one to manufacture though, or maybe not, who knows. Thanks for watching!

Lovely picking. So do you like all new settings? I personally would go for bridge - middle in series on the upper bank, instead of all pickups in series which sounded muddy to me. Thanks for the info too!

Honest answer, I don't know about the latest iterations! I will say that it was wired exactly as intended at the time, so I believe it to be as I stated in the video. Although I am as fallible as the next guy, so who knows? Thanks for watching!

Anyone know if this will fit the existing rout on an Aerodyne Stratocaster (Fender MIJ guardless Stratocaster) I have the SSS. Just poking around figuring out which reversible mods are possible, in my case reversible meaning without cutting up the body. I guess its a similar size to the 5 way but standard pick giard strats have a room in thier chamber. I suppose i also have to figure out how it mounts to the body from below and if it has the same switch arm length to pass through the wood as i have no idea how thick it is. Asking before i take it apart as its pretty new and im not ready, curiosity will get me eventually. Enjoying it now. But i always look forward to possibilities if i get bored and want to make it my own.
@MattsGAP
@MattsGAP 6 месяцев назад
I suspect if there’s an issue it will be how deep the slot is on your Aerodyne. The switch needs room to move side to side it’s not a dramatic movement but I’d imagine if the slot is narrow and deep (thickness of wood) it could restrict travel. If you have access to a plastic pickguard you could measure the slot width and plastic depth and compare it to your guitar. My guess is they’ll be very similar and the Free-way would fit and function without issue, but as you have alluded, modifying the body is probably not a good idea, and would affect the resale value. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the reply! (Sorry about the typos, tiny window, didn't look back.) I need to get a small steel ruler and check but I think it's looking possible, with a flashlight I can see it's about an eighth to the metal on the top of the current switch assembly. It screws through the top to catch it and the slot is a heavy eighth. Just so they didn't use some low profile switch or something, I can't find a part number for a separate specific switch so am assuming they used the usual part. I didn't get around to pooping off the back plate yet but will as soon as I get some measuring tools. Thanks again, great channel.
@MattsGAP

@@AJNpa80 that’s probably the best thing about the free-way is it’s basically the size of a standard switch and they have made it easy to install! Thanks again and best of luck with the install!

can you use the freeway switch with emgs?
@MattsGAP
@MattsGAP Год назад
That's a great question, and unfortunately I have no idea! I think it would depend on whether you're using 4 conductor humbuckers, tapable ones. Or just single coils. You might get limited options without 4 conductor humbuckers. To be certain you should ask the manufacturer www.freewayswitch.com

So no bridge and middle in series? Well, that sucks. Middle and Bridge from a physics standpoint provide the best combination of consistent harmonics and an increasing fundamental as you travel down the neck the the 20th fret range and beyond, where you NEED more fundamental to compensate for the lack of string energy since they're shortened due to fretting a note. Having that combo in series makes the perfect shredder position or otherwise giving you extra punch and power for leads.
@MattsGAP
@MattsGAP 10 месяцев назад
I believe there are other wiring options with the switch. I'm sure there is a way to wire the middle and bridge in series. Thanks for watching!
