As a mechanic, i have to say that i'm impressed that almost all of the tips, could damage your car in some way. Don't try any of the tips, except lubricating the doorstrap... and then buy a lubricant the next day, and do it again.... because WD-40 is really not a lubricant in itself - not a good one for that, at least (petroleum based). Especially the tips about using WD-40 at the rims close to the brakes, is outright dangerous, if you hit the brakes... Oh, and WD-40 damage rubber and plastics, if used regulary - it even says so, in the instructions... So don't do that either.

I make good lubricant self . Kerosene + any cheap motor 20-80 % or 80-20 % ...mix , shake and pour in empty botel jet cleaner ...

I had a 75ft oak tree fall on my house. I sprayed about 1/3 can of WD-40 on the tree trunk and when I woke up the next day the tree had stood itself back to upright. Saved me thousands.

@Charles Morse Brake cleaner will blind you if you get it in your eye, it takes very little to dissolve the lipid membrane. Not saying you're not correct just stating that it may be safer in some cases to use an alternative or goggles (which many won't do).

Great video, very informative. My only concern is if you use it on the outside car body, it takes a lot is cleaning to get it off. How would that surface react to polishes and/or waxes? I assume any type of coating you use to shine the paint will bead up on a surface that still has any amount of WD-40 on it.

I use it on my upholstery, makes sliding in and out as easy as can be!! But be careful if you hit the brakes hard you can bounce off the windshield.

WD-40 = stands for 'Water Displacement Formula # 40'. It was designed to spray on the outside of stainless steel rocket Oxygen tanks, so that the water vapor that formed on the outside of those tanks would 'break away' and not stick to the rockets when the engines started. That was it, it is not a permanent lubricant, it slowly evaporates over a couple of weeks.

@@Kawasaki225, 🟦 Nope, not even!.... The WD stands for "Water Displacement", so if you get water under your distributor cap, a good spray-down with WD-40 would get you back on the road so the heat of the engine could evaporate the rest of the water the rest of the way out.

Actually it was designed before the rocket age for spraying distributor caps and spark wire connections in the aircraft industry. It was the 40th attempt to find something that would displace water but would still let the electrons flow thru the connection.😊

Do not use W D 40 to remove paint and scratches. It will thin the clearcoat and dull the paint , DON'T DO IT .

Clearcoat is cheap just be aware you should apply more clear coat if you do this alot but so what alot of professional detailers will use paint thinner or lacquer thinner to buff out scratches on paint and leather and it works great

I'm sure someone's pointed this put but here it is again. Lubricant will help brake stubborn lug nuts free, its true but it will also lead to overtorquing and snapped off studs if you aren't careful. 99% of lug nuts break free without having to spray them so keep that in mind.

I wouldn’t recommend to spray it on the tires, on the screws of the wheels or anywhere near the brakes, as that might loosen the screws and would change inefficiently the braking time and distance. There are products special made for that purpose.

I wouldn't advise spraying it directly on the wheels, spray it on a rag then clean the wheels. This avoids contaminating the brake pads.

After using WD-40 or similar, it is necessary to apply a silicone or a vasiline (test the reactions on the surface before applying) because WD-40 dries and then dries the surface, and especially in polymers it ends up getting worse.

One day I was helping a friend replace his brake pads on his car when we finished he sprayed the wheel screws and lug nuts y told him don’t do that with the vibration of the car the Lug nuts Will become loose and you will lose a tire I cleaned the WD-40 off the screws he had sprayed we tightened the lug nuts and his wife the Next day call Him telling him the car was shaking the Lugnuts had become loose

Just so you are aware ...this spray is only good for the headlights for a couple of days believe it or not...'Off' with deet works better as it lasts longer as the diet 'melts' a layer of plastic but it only lasts for a few days more It's cheaper to just order a new headlight in the long run

🔵 NEVER use WD-40 on any rubber or vinyl parts of your car, it will ruin them!... but it takes about six to eight months and by that time most people won't realize that the WD-40 was to blame for the damage.

It's petroleum based, petroleum eats away at rubber and plastic, do not use on these surfaces.

Plastics are made from petroleum. There are petroleum based plastics conditioners on the market that greatly extend the life of plastics.

Wd40 make others like silicon spray for rubbers but don't use the wd40 penetrating and multi purpose on rubbers and plastic it must likely dry it to crisp

This should be 10 amazing things you never do with WD-40. It's a petroleum based product and should never be used on rubber or to clean your hands with. It's also flammable.

Agreed. Pretty much everything in the video is wrong. If I new I could fix scratches that easy I would not have been an automotive painter for 25+ years.
