You can also add a Gold AU to the platinum for free (it's not a 4x food gold card, but it accomplishes the AU for transferring points to their loyalty account without applying for a new card)

Hey Ben. My family of 4 figured out a program. I can get the AMEX Platinum without a hard pull on my credit. Then get 3 AU's for $175. Then we divide the ($695 plus $175) by 4 and we all get that Platinum card for $217.50/year. That is unbeatable for that card and the benefits (lounges, TSA/Global entry, hotel status, etc).

Question: Is a Secured line of credit the same as a non secured line of credit... Example: If I have a secured line of credit for $3000 and amex card requires a line of credit of $3000, would amex except the secured line of credit?

Just to clarify. I recently got an Amex Business Gold and my wife got an Amex Gold. We are not authorized users on one another's cards. But just by virtue of each being an Amex card user, we can automatically pool our points? Do we need to call Amex to set up a point pooling? Or do we need to get a third card with no annual fee, where one spouse is a user and one an authorized user??? It's unfortunate because I just closed a free Amex account, not realizing this. Not sure if they would allow me to reactivate it. Probably not.

Can you transfer points to the same loyalty program account? Both of you can transfer points to the same world of hyatt account (in this case). That could be one way to pool your points together.

For the EDP (EveryDay Preferred), I think the additional .5% doesn’t add up unless you value the Uber credit of the gold at 50% of face value or less. And since the EDP doesn’t have any credits, I would say it’s safe to assume that the effective annual fee is also $95. For simplicity’s sake, let’s just assume that one MR point is one cent per point. If you value the credits for the Gold at full face value, since the EDP earns 3%/4.5% for 6k of groceries a year, you would earn 6000*0.045-95=$175 worth of points for the EDP. With the gold, with a $10 EAF, you earn 6000*0.045-10=$260 worth of points. Where the EDP could earn you a little more points would be if you value the Gold Uber credits at 50% face value or less. Then for the EDP, it’s the same $175 worth of points, and for the gold it would be 6000*0.045-70=$170 worth of points. So basically you should only really be using only the EDP for groceries if you spend $6000 or less on groceries per year, and if you value the Gold Uber credits at 50% or less of face value. But at exactly 50% face value, you are only earning 500 more MR points, which isn’t a ton. In comparison, for the gold, the 4% on groceries is up to 25k.

Ben, I fucked up today. I accepted the offer Amex put down to enroll in their Centurion card based on spending with the company card. Fuck I don't have the $10k and I don't know if I can funnel it through my company. How do I survive? Awesome video! I like the shoutout for the Everyday. I have the Schwab & vanilla plat (no AF due to military), but when I retire, I've been thinking of my exit strategy. I was going to downgrade the vanilla plat to the green or just cancel out-right, but now I'm thinking I'll downgrade it to the Everyday. I also have the Gold, but I mainly have that for the restaurants. Now I'm wondering if I should just cancel it?

Instead of adding an authorized user (player 2) to transfer to their loyalty program accounts, using the everyday card, use the Blue Business Plus so you don’t mess with player 2’s 5/24 status.
