I never knew Gauntlet Legends was on N64, or any home console. I remember playing the arcade cabinet back at the roller rink back in my childhood. Didn't get to play it often, but it was super fun every time I got the chance.
@@Emceemur drop the beat emceemur that music on your videos always takes me back to the club days of the 90s 00s that techno house music haha good morning from NY have a good week my man
Yeah. There’s so many good games he missed. Lots that I still play today and lots I still have yet to play that I want to play. The graphics for me are still good for the exception of the resolution. I would rather play the Switch Online N64 because the image is so much clearer but I do have the retro tink 2.0 for games I still play on original hardware. He didn’t even mention the Zelda games.
I preferred it to the PS1 and Saturn back in the day for sure. As time has passed that has adjusted quite a bit. Love the memories I have with the N64 though. Those are priceless. Cheers!
A big thing to remember is that these are the games we currently care to play on the N64. The Zelda games are great but I play them on my 2DS XL. And I've played them so much in my life I'm probably not going back to them for a few years as I work through other games. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid yeah it is much better to play the games on the latest system they were released on and there’s quite a few. There’s so much nostalgia though remembering playing the games as a kid. It would be nice to see Nintendo port most if not all of their N64 library to the Switch. I DK64 is one of my favourite games I still play till this day but I don’t have my hopes up that I will ever see it come to the Switch Online due to licensing issues.
Excellent content per usual guys! I remember the n64 just bringing my friends together back in the day. 007 Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, even calling each other on the phone for tips on some of the single player games before internet took off. Good times!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Don't get me wrong, I get why it doesn't have too much love and I will admit that camera controls have aged poorly. But Ocarina of Time is why I became a Zelda fan and Super Mario 64 at the time set a very high standard for 3D platforming.
That‘s true. Still love the N64 but it is hard to go back to the (mostly) early 3D games. The one N64 game i really still love to play must be Wace Race 64. The controls are just so perfectly spot on. Amazing, love to play it on the Odin… so: 1) Wave Race 64 2) Mario 64 3) NBA Hangtime 4) Perfect Dark (HD) 5) Roadsters 6) Diddy Kong Racing 7) Banjo (1/2) 8) Lylat Wars/Starfox 64 9) Zelda Majora‘s Mask 10) Sin & Punishment Honorable mention: Mickey‘s Speedway & Killer Instinct Gold
N64 will forever be near and dear to me. I absolutely love the console and have tons of memories growing up. Games that I still play: - 1080 Snowboarding - WWF No Mercy - GoldenEye - Turok 2 Seeds of Evil - Mario Kart 64 - F-Zero X - Off Road Challenge
I know the N64 doesnt hold up in terms of graphics but thats what brings its charm in my opinion and it used cartridges instead of cds meaning that they don't scratch or stop working.
I was an N64 kid and just looking the old 90s graphics whether its Saturn's mesh transparencies, Playstation's warping textures or N64's smudgy polygons it reminds me of childhood nostalgia, these consoles are way too charming to disrespect
Nice to hear some love for TWINE. Unquestionably, IMO, better than Goldeneye. And less expensive. And speaking of cheaper alternatives to the games you list: NWO/WCW Revenge. Dirt cheap and so much fun.
Played the hell out of Revenge dude. Love that game. The life situation in the game is a bit odd as finished don't have the impact they ended up having in later releases. But hell, Raven is in the game so I'll always love it. Cheers!
Great episode bros, great series. I still play Mario Kart 64 & Goldeneye a few times a year. I still love Super Mario 64! The N64 was a huge game changer in 1996. Great memories of this console! Cheers!
Gauntlet Legends is a great game to go back to with a group of friends! I definitely go back to Super Mario 64 & Banjo Kazooie every few years but the main two games I go back to on the N64 are Space Station Silicon Valley, Hybrid Heaven & Paper Mario. Those first two are hidden gems that I wish more people played/talked about. Both really deserve & need a current sequel!
N64 is still one of the best consoles for me. It may not have had a boatload of games like other consoles libraries but it had among the best games in history of games.
And I definitely need to check out Star Soldier. Have you guys ever played another Treasure game on the N64, Mischief Makers? And what about Beetle Adventure Racing?
Haven't ever played Mischief Makers unfortunately. Played Beetle Adventure Racing at my neighbors quite a bit growing up. He got it for like $5 at Doller General lol! We had a good time with it. Cheers!
I enjoyed playing through Rogue Squadron recently. Star Fox is still great. I played through Shadows of the Empire recently. I found switching to 1st person view for most of the game improved it for me. I never got into Mario 64 either, glad to hear its not just me.
In the 90's, friends and I would hook 1 N64 to 2 TV's then play Goldeneye with the other teams screen covered for hours. Early year 2000 I did work experience at Nintendo HQ Australia and played Perfect Dark months before release on an EEPROM cart, it's my top game of all time.
Good list. One of the problems with N64 (or PS1 for that matter) is that Dreamcast actually has better versions of the games. Examples on your list are Gauntlet, NFL Blitz and Hydro Thunder. Star Wars Podracer also comes to mind.
For sure and that stands true most of the time. There are some Dreamcast ports the f'd up but typically we have most multiplatform games on the DC. Cheers!
Glad to hear you say that about NFL Blitz and the controller just feeling right playing it. That is how I always felt playing it, pulling back the thumbstick and make passes while use the Z button underneath for Turbo. Never play 2001. Had the original NFL Blitz on the 64. Think it was the 1st game I ever bought with my own money. Got it from Kaybee Toys. It wasn't my 1st choice either. I was there to get NFL Quarterback Club 99, but they were out of stock. So I picked up Blitz for a whopping 69.99 plus tax. Think I had earned some money over the summer to buy it. Needless to say, I was very happy with my purchase and later went back to get QB Club as well which I loved. The Atomic Purple one I got pre-owned years after my original console went to a family member. Came with the Expansion Pak too which I didn't have with my original, but did use it years ago when I rented DK64. It's a nice looking console, along with he controller. A few years back, I got my original one back too! Good video. Take care. Cheers 🍻
Quarterback 99 is also a fun game but you probably lucked out because that Blitz game is a classic! Yeah i remember the expansion pack being a huge thing! Cheers!
I’d be really interested to see what Saturn games you guys are still playing, I like picking up bargains (both Japanese and pal). Sega Rally has to be in there, still great value to this day and fun. Love the channel by the way, please check out mine if you got the time. 🤘🤩🤘
Doesn't get much better man. Foreal. That game has always been great. It's frustrating modern developers can't pull their heads out of their ass enough to make a proper wrestling game these days. Hopefully the AEW game get things back on track. Cheers!
I got to say I never had Nintendo 64 but I did have a game cube. Now I have a Nintendo switch and I downloaded the Nintendo 64 games and I think that I did miss out. Great video
Love that Star Soldier was mentioned, a huge gem on the system! A few I've been going back to lately: Pokemon Puzzle League, Buck Bumble, and Robotron 64.
N64 games I still play on game regular, in no specific ranking Banjo-Kazooie Ocarina of Time Rush 2 Mario Party 2 Pokemon Snap Paper Mario No Mercy Iggys Reckin Balls Duke Nukem 64 Oh yeah and the annual 100%ing of Mario 64 😜
I totally agree with your feelings on the N64, it didnt age well. Although it does have some all time classics for sure. One thing I am not sure of is how Conkers didnt even make an honorable mention, as that game is a game I still play in 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, etc. One of my all time favorites. And no, the Xbox remake is not as good, may look nicer, but nowhere near the experience. my 2 cents
F-Zero X is my favorite in the series. The only way I play it today is with the ZX Overdrive mod on an emulator on PC. It's so awesome. Check it out sometime. I made a trailer for the mod just a few days ago.
Nice! We don't game much on PC due to having our game room retro fit like a 90's basement with 2 CRT's but I'll check out some videos on it at the very least. Cheers!
Yes the men are back it’s that time for the N64 I’m still waiting patiently for its console generation brothers the ps1 and saturn cheers guys have a great week love all these games all gems another amazing series
I’m discovering the good in the N64 recently by buying some affordable English friendly Japanese carts. I got the N64 when it was out originally and was really disappointed with it compared to using a PC with a VooDoo 2 card in the mid to late ‘90s. But currently, I’m more interested in the past than the future of video games for the time being. Still playing it on a CRT helps the retro vibes a lot.
Can definitely agree with you in being more interested in the past than the future! Its a very heavy nostalgia console for us! So many fond memories but when you go back on some games live up to the memories! Cheers!
F-Zero X is one of the few N64 games that run at 60 fps on native hardware, which makes it a technical marvel for the console imo. I don't have GX yet, but that's on my list of games to get. Some of the games on the N64 are great, especially Zelda, but that controller is god awful. Thank god I wasn't alive when the N64 came out. Lol.
I like the handheld idea! I feel like that's a untapped well of ideas for the channel. I'd love to see some Game Boy through 3DS content. Awesome video as always, cheers broskis!
Really enjoy these videos. Gauntlet is the best overall on N64. Ever play it on the PS1 or Dreamcast? PS1 is rough and Dreamcast has nice graphics but lacks the charm.
Star solider I got it recently I love this game it is so good. I was shaking after I played this bc it was so good and loved the gaming expirence. Super hidden gem. Great video have most of these.
I am the Venn diagram of this video. My love for GOTG is matched only by my life for the N64. Great video. Check out Knifes Edge if you get a chance or see it in the wild. Basically a rail shooter where you to four people mount a gun on a helicopter and blast everything in sight. She ain’t a dime - but nickels still spend!
I'm a huge fan of the nostalgia and memories I have with the N64. It's just not super high on the list of consoles I play on the regular unfortunately. Hope all is well dude and your new town is treating you well.
Banjo Kazzooie Super Mario 64 Goldeneye 007 Star Fox 64 WWF: No Mercy Orge Battle Gauntlet Legends Paper Mario Wave Race 64 Mortal Kombat Trilogy Conker’s Bad Fur Day Mario Tennis Mario Kart 64 Sin and Punishment The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Resident Evil 2 Perfect Dark Turok Turok 2 Spider-Man Donkey Kong 64 Jet Force Gemini Winback Haven NBA LIVE 99 F-Zero
You’re missing so many good games. I knows it’s just your opinion but you missed Diddy Kong Racing, DK 64, Star Fox, Mario Party 1,2,3. And I am sure there’s many more. There’s a Sarges Hero game I think it’s called I played and loved as a kid, I am sure I would love it if I played again today but the other games I mentioned I play all the time. Edit: also can’t forget the 2 best Zelda games on that system.
Not really playing any of those currently. Own them all and have for many years with the exception of Sarges Hero's which I'm pretty sure I have on Dreamcast. Growing up me and a few neighbor friends played the hell out of Diddy Kong Racing. Good times. Cheers!
You know it's funny, I don't have any Nostalgia for this console and it's kind of new to me but the one game that I have played the most is StarCraft 64 😂..... and I actually had a lot of fun, I do have Nostalgia for the original Starcraft 🤘🕹🎮🍻..... also that shooter game that you mentioned, "star Soldier Vanishing Earth" you're right! it's pretty decent, I have it on emulator.
If I may give an N64 reccomendation, you guys oughta check out Goemon's Great Adventure! It's a fantastic 2D platforming game that can be played co-op up to 4 players! Check it out if you haven't already! It's ridiculously fun! It's right up your alley!
Snow. Board. Kids. I realize snowboard is one word but the pause between snow & board really emphasizes how adamant i am that you guys need to play it like yesterday don’t you think? Seriously though, it is fruggin good. I don’t know that I’d put it above MK64 but it’s way way up there. Beetle Adventure Racing too. Sounds like it would be crap but it is really super good.
Robert, when one person knows all the boards and you aren't familiar... GoldenEye 64 is slaughter fest Play mp maps more often. Fire damages through walls. IE grenade, rocket
This is such a fun series my dudes. I think you could make this a yearly series after you cover most of the major systems. I honestly think you could go up right to last generation and still be relevant now that we are a couple of years into this one and last gen started in 2012/2013. Like one a month or so. Handhelds could be cool as I still play a bunch of PSP and DS games. You've also made me want to go a pickup Star Soldier again. I didn't appreciate that genre enough until I got older and worse at playing them! 😂Also love the shirt Robert but I prefer Kujo... ✅
Resident Evil 2 on the N64 is a guilty pleasure of mine. Is it the best version? No. The Dreamcast/Gamecube ports are king in that regard but RE2 on the N64 is such an amazing technical feat it just makes it fun to play, for me at least. I also love DOOM 64, though it's too dark and there's no brightness slider. It just hits the nostalgia button for me. I used to rent it from the old Road Show Video on Fleur Drive. I've also found Starcraft 64 to be pretty fun on the N64. It plays surprisingly well. Of course the graphics are a bit muddy, and mouse and keyboard controls are always best for an RTS game, but it is fun. Harvest Moon 64 is ridiculously addictive as well. Spent way too much time on that game growing up.
@@GamingOffTheGrid such is the life of those of us who collect. Too many games, and not nearly enough time to play them all. Good video series though fellas. I've been enjoying it.
If you guys got a gameboy player for GameCube then I highly recommend you guys get into the gba. There’s 3 f zero games on gba all of them basically take after the gameplay style of the snes version but adds into it. There plenty of run n gun games which I know you guys would love the only real issue is if you want to play 2 player link cable games then you would need either two GameCubes with two tvs to plug the link cable on them or someone has to play with the gameboy advance while the link cable is plugged to the GameCube. I know handhelds are a lot harder to play coop stuff with but the game library on the gba is probably better than any other handheld honestly although the ds and psp give it a run for it’s money
I've never played Star Soldier. Honestly it looks like a stressful fun time haha. Also I think you guys named 10 honorable mentions, so I think you love the 64 more than you like to admit.
Good list but you missed the best Star Wars game on the system, Rogue Squadron. That one still holds up and is very fun to this day. Another series that would be great in 2022 if they revived it and kept the arcade style play.
fzero x and mario tennis are two of my favorite games. wife isn't a big gamer but loves to play (and is pretty good at) mario tennis. cruisin USA is a go to as well
I really like this series and I feel the same way about the N64. I thought the N64 was great at the time but today it just does not hold up for me. Well I guess I need to pop in WWF Attitude again and beat up some friends!
Attitude is alright in our opinions! Just tough thats its compared to Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy! Some of the best Wrestling games of all time! Cheers!
The controller was really strange like how did you expect to hold it? Never owned an n64 but that controller makes me want to get one it just looks weird but interesting
The controller really was dependent as to what type of game you were playing in terms of how you would hold it. Some games were better than others and some games had a very comfortable feeling using the original 64 controller
I tried playing some N64 on Switch but hate not having the c buttons. I pre-ordered some wireless tribute 64 controllers that work on og hardware and switch. Still can't buy that expensive switch specific N64 controller.
It's definitely odd especially for folks who crew up playing the original. I'll have to check out that controller you mention because I don't want to pay what the OEM Switch controllers are going for either. Will Nintendo ever figure out supply and demand? Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Wireless Tribute 64.has pre-orders for different colors open now and will restock their other colors soon. Good reviews. My kid tried playing star fox and he liked it but they tell him to use the c buttons and he wasn't getting it. Also c buttons for the ocarina of zelda is better with buttons vs stick.
Gauntlet Legends!! My brother and I left our n64 on for like 12 days straight while we were beating it because we couldn't save or turn the console off, lol. And the N64 was fine! Good times.
I love N64. The light blue Funtastic one (plus a spare controller and 8 games) was the first thing in my collection, £60 when I was like 12. I actually like the controller however the joysticks do wear out even when greased with lithium, without the joystick wearing so fast, I’d rate the controller a 7 or 8 out of 10. Valiant first attempt for a 3D game controller. Favourite games are Star Wars Shadows of the Empire, basically every other Star Wars game, Hexen, and Waverace 64.
Remember Diddy Kong Racing? Donkey Kong's nephew got his own kart racer and improved on the formula with upgraded weapons, different vehicle selection and a story campaign adventure centering on Timber's island and Wizpig's racing challenges.
We still do that! We like to mix it up depending on the series we are doing! We done alot of videos in the classic format lately! This series is all green screen! Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid oh nice. I’ve been “off the grid” myself the last few months but came back to the channel. Bought a fully backwards compatible PS3 today in excellent condition for $200! Not a bad deal! Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid actually the game that got me into shootem ups. Like you said it isn’t the best game but I remember playing this for hours. Still haven’t beaten it till this day tho
WCW/nWo Revenge, WrestleMania 2000, No Mercy, Goldeneye and Ocarina of Time are my big ones I still go back to. Just played No Mercy the other day. I still prefer Golden Eye to Perfect Dark...Goldeneye just has this...I don't know...atmosphere? A charm about it that I don't get from PD. I also don't agree when people say it didn't age well...it doesn't take that long to get re-acclimated to it.
I never got the N64. I don't hate it; I just didn't see the appeal. To be fair, I was busy trying and failing to pick up girls. That aside, I thought the games looked like crap and the controller was garbage. A friend of mine had Mario, Turok and Ocarina. None of those got my attention. Except for Turok, I couldn't figure out what to do. And the game s were around $80 and very hard to find. I'm old enough where renting an NES game for the weekend was a dice roll. But it's $4 or whatever. Later I worked at a video store and good luck getting those damn rumble paks back in. The 64 just had nothing I wanted. But! With the Wii VC I gave some of the N64 games a second chance. And they aren't all bad for $8 and a controller I can hold. It's a small handful of games, but they are decent. The nostalgia is probably like how I enjoyed pac man 2600. It's not good, but it's all I have. Still love that game. Anyways, for an F Zero type game apparently Tube Slider on Game Cube is pretty close. It's around $5-10.
Hey there Gotg and thanks for covering one of my favorite and possibly the most underrated console ever The N64 was a beast hardware wise even stronger than the PS1 but it was held back by Nintendo's stupid decisions to stick to cartridges while every other console already moved to CDs which I think affected it's sales greatly Though that didn't keep it from having stellar games : Ocarina of time, Majora's mask, Goldeneye, Mario 64 and Conker's nad fur day to name a few
I played so much of No Mercy (and Wrestlemania 2000) when they came out. Probably my biggest go to games were Donkey Kong 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time since I could only obtain a handful of games. Though, replaying on the 3DS Ocarina of Time, it fits so much better on the handheld (but if they ever released the 3DS version on Switch I would get that and Majora's Mask in a heartbeat). The Gauntlet game I remember playing with friends on first N64 and then I believe on PS2 version. Was a blast to play 4 player or watch since there were more than 4 of us hanging out at that time. We also played Mario Kart 64 as a group. Funnily enough, I don't recall us ever playing Smash Bros on the N64, but it was probably because we couldn't get ahold of a copy or know about it at the time.
The N64 is still my preferred way to play Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask...and MK4. P.S. The two best wrasslin games of all-time are No Mercy and Revenge...God do I miss Dubya Cee Dubya!!
How'd this video miss me?! This is honestly my favorite ever! Early 2000' were amazing for me with this bad boy! Thank you for this but...why didn't you talk about...LOL jks! 😅🍻🍺
Rogue Squadron and Starfox 64 are staples for me. My son and I also love playing the Beetle Adventure Racing game. N64 not my favorite console at all. I actually sold it and my entire collection a few years back and decided to get back into it about 2 years ago. I don't see any need to get some of the better games, that are also on Dreamcast and better. Love love love Gauntlet, but like you stated Dreamcast is the better version, and PS2 Dark Legacy is the BEST version. FUUUUUCKKK i love that game
The N64 is a little thin but I would throw Goemon’s Adventure in there. It is an awesome co-op side scroller (though I don’t think you guys rock those types of games). It’s hella expensive now though.
