I'm glad there are lot of people sharing what they know! Please if you know any other tips that you wished you knew please let everyone know below. As the game updates there will be balance changes and new items!
Kinda funny for the comments that very hateful on cheating. Its a single player games guys, u can play however u want. Not everybody have lot of free times for long hours grinding. I always money cheat in all games (single player ofc) since i started working because no time for grinding on weekends lol. Good video and keep it up bro, i just played this game after getting it on sale, still understanding the mechanics.
Cheating represents the characters will to lean into cheating just for his own benefit, thus giving an idea of how honest the person is in the longrun of life. Cheaters in games are just like cheatera in real life, you can not trust aomeone with inclination to such behaviour, irelevant of whether he got exposed in real life or a game. Honest players are a lot more truatworthy in real life than cheatera/hackers...
@@svatoslavsemenuk7462 kinda lame reaction .. its like all race games mean we all drive like it in real life too?? And all GTA players gonna rob several real life banks or killing peoples everywhere?? Btw this game has in build 'customize game' so game devs let us make a choice to use it to make OUR own game progress easier or harder so it is not cheating because who can we hurt? Who tf are you to make decision on what other players who want use in build customize game option? Especially if it is about SINGLE player game ..
@@alexcoutereel279 driving arguments into the spectrum of ad absurdum does not change the point nor give support to cheaters, it just ends in the void. The issue is about the ideology and the way of thinking, not 1:1 manifest of game principles into real life, so the comment although funny, is not appropriate. Behaviourar inclinations do not materialise like direct realisations of ones fantasies. Give it a thought mate.
@@svatoslavsemenuk7462 lol you are right thought. Those hardcore gamer will "surely" a great person in real life, not some basement dweller who never see a sunlight... but who am i thought to judge? i'm just a casual gamer, rather choose to spend the time with my child and families than spending 3-4 hours just to grinds gold. There are lots of people who play games just to release stress bro, they exists.
I like longer seasons, to make sure I get all the quests done and still have time for crafting and building. Even when you choose longer seasons, you can skip to the next season whenever you are ready. I also recommend setting the building limit to maximum, because I wasn't done everything I wanted to do with the smaller limit. 200% gives you enough buildings for two or three villages, so you can have people by the lake, and the mines.
I’m just new to the game and I thought 3 days didn’t feel like enough time for me. I think I’ll play through as devs intended first time and I reckon I’ll probably make seasons a little longer and increase the build limit once I hit it so I can have a slightly more relaxing play through. I don’t like feeling overly rushed with games but I enjoy a challenge still.
Well each setting i believe has some effect you how it impact you gameplay, i.e. i set to 4, and i am always trying to plan ahead in each season what to do, so far i play this game 30 hours so this going to change after more hour spent, but what i am saying when i know i have four days it get me mobilized to start with the most important things, like in autumn collect mushrooms so that i will have what to feed with villagers over Winter (that is better than just a roasted meet). Or warm up some building so that performance of some villagers won't drop. If I have much more Days I feel like there wouldn't so tension for those stuff, less dopamine i guess. Besides when you have more days you need to wait more for trees to grow and decorate somehow your village, or animals/people to reproduce. I get that setting 10 days you can always sleep those 6 days, but this this is feels off to me, like hacking. But of course everyone should find it's own path to have fun ;)
This video feels exactly what I needed as a casual player that works too much and only play video games to relax. I needed this to consider buying this game that has been on my wishlist for a while now.
Thanks! Some stuff I didn't know in here which is super helpful. Some other tips: 1) Resource and Food Storages are shared across all buildings. This means you can put a Resource/Food storage right next to a town for easy selling. Just run over and grab what you want to sell without running back to your town! Additionally throw a resource storage outside of the mine and just dump into that if you are playing with weight limit to significantly reduce running. 2) People pull tools and resources they need from resource storage automatically for all tasks. I rarely even use the storages found in each building. They also automatically put things here. 3) The only advantage to sleeping is getting health back and progressing time faster. There is no penalty for not sleeping so chug away in the early years to really set yourself up for success.
I feel embaressed not thinking of the storage tip! I have so many hours and never thought of this! This is why I love the community, we all have so much knowledge. This is why I decided to make videos cause maybe someone missed what I found eh?
The storages sharing thing is pretty much the most important game design issue/exploit that should come up in any video. Its a huge time and travel saver. I hope they fix or improve that mechanic, perhaps a oxen cart that carries your resources along a predetermined path, with the chance of having it raided?
@@terrencesauve meh, I think people can play how they want. I personally don't want to use exploits. Its a sandbox of sorts. Play how you want, if you want to use an exploit go ahead. They give you an option for infinite health I don't think they care about a selling time saver lol - Though I think a raiding mechanic would be really cool. Maybe some basic base defense items.
I just gotta say, it's so refreshing to finally see a RU-vid video where the RU-vidr doesn't put every single difficulty on max and goes like "I'm the best. I only ever play the hardest difficulty."
I play games to enjoy myself. I did all that hard work years ago. I think if i'm around 1000 hours into a game I have earned the right to play how I want.
Funny, I started this game on hardest difficulty. My first death was under a minute (wolves) and I was constantly starving trough the first week, bude man, the experience is so tense. I used to go to the forest in the night to get wood... I don't do that anymore.
Amazing tips, really helped me out as a new player. Side feedback on the video, the voiceover volume is pretty quiet. On mobile I had my volume up all the way and still had a hard time hearing.
Wait, crank the xp to 1000%, disable weight, make bandits into walking loot bags that can't harm you in any way is okay, but you consider using fast craft as "breaking the game"?!
@@scott8448 All these options are for people who want to make the game easy, like myself. My hope in showing the settings is that people KNOW what the settings do so they enjoy the game however they want!
This is probably the most useful "things I wish I knew" videos I've ever seen. Thank you so much for going through the settings, that was exactly what made me hesitate starting the game. And thank you for being the only RU-vidr I've ever seen not be afraid to admit that you prefer to play games like this the same way I do, with focus on the content and city building!
BLACKJACK AND HOOKER'S? OR, THIS GAME SUCKS MOOSE EGGS, SCRUB. NOW, give me a public apology for wasting my time.. Not only that, but your Insolence, as well. I expect it on my desk by Tuesday at Noon.. Or, you're going to be eating out of the Garbage because I will break you, just as fast, as I made you. I can't believe you have the Temerity to act this way towards me. I don't even want to know what you would do for a Klondike bar.... @@zanderwhitcroft
If you don't adjust the weight, you can also use the season change teleportation for mining. Go on a mining spree near the end of the season and get overweight where you can't move near the time of 23:00. Once it hits the 24:00, the season reset will take you home with your overweight ore.
Rather than doing that... it would just make more sense to check unlimited carry weight just when you go mining. Either way, you're breaking realism so why restrict your mining to an end of season rush?
@@HAL0B0MB Oh ok. Didn't realize you were just trying to artificially insert additional difficulty. I can see the utility in that. Maybe make fishing seasonal, or don't fish when it rains. Only hunt deer during winter months. For me, the game isn't very realistic. A couple things are, but it's missing massive numbers of things, like hand pulled carts. Nobody miners carried ore in their pockets, or in horse saddles, so there's really no point simulating realism or difficulty in this case. In my opinion.
I picked this up maybe a year or more ago and just recently thought I'd go back and check it out to see if it's improved or just how it's changed but I wanted a refresher, hence me checking out your video.
@Zander Whitcroft Some people love the challenge and these are some of the people that are replying. I on the other hand play for fun and I don't find fun in grinding and huffing and puffing. I only get a little bit of time to play. Being a mom that works fulltime my time for fun is small. I grind and huff and puff in real life so I refuse to do it in a video game lol. Thanks for the tips. As you stated in your video everyone gets to play the game how they want. That is what makes this developers amazing. They realized that and implemented a way for everyone to customize the game how they want :)
Not really a game for you if you don’t like grinding because there’s lots of it setting up your village unless you set up a production chain right away. Your gonna spend hours if not days trying to insulate rock buildings as limestone is probably the hardest item to get
I have to say about bandits really fast, they can spawn at anytime. My first encounter was on my second day in game, after an update and 8 years in game later I found out the can spawn in caves too!
Omg, the game has changed so much. I got the game extremely early and building was extremely limited. It was more like open world survival more than it is now. So nice to see the changes made. I’ve got to get back into the game soon
28:15 Not sure if this is an update but you CAN move a door by replacing the original with a window .. then creating the door on a different spot. Love this game.
started today and quickly realised my villagers could do some production tasks but they don't seem to do anything, based on your video they're probably lacking the tools and incentives. Great video btw!
I didn't see where anyone corrected this but you can move the position of the door when building. Where it's true you can only have 1 door, You just have to change the existing door to something else (window or wall) then put the door where you choose. Hope this helps someone.
Incredible... thanks again! Just bought the game, so reading and watching all I can before I start my first “throw-away” game to learn with, then make the big plunge to my official game.
@@Kitten202021 Play around with the settings until you get them just right. Just remember that some don't change till next season. Make sure you enjoy yourself, thats what is important.
I do like the customizing of the game but didn't know the effects of changing the settings only take effect after season. Thanks for that knowledge! I just started playing the game so I'll be checking in on some more of your videos.
Some changes take place straight away but if you go to your pause menu (when playing) and go customise you will see what changes straight away and what doesn’t like length of day
@@txhoppy This should have been removed as of the lastest patch introducing potionmaking. They assigned a "Potion of possibilities" for resetting your Skill points.
@@zanderwhitcroft Yea thanks. I've gotten married and indeed the option isn't there. I see the potion but it will be a while before I can make it... but I guess that's ok.
I love this video, I watched a few more "beginner tips" before this one, but this video genuinely starts with the basics and has information for casual play (which is very much my playing style). recently started playing and I'm using my first save to learn hunting (I'm not good at it yet, but it will get better) and wander around the map. When I'm somewhat good at hunting I'll try my first real game. I don't know if I'll change any of the settings yet, I think I'll try to play the game as it's default set at first. Except for the enemy HP, I will be turning that down!
Great video.. After owning the game for a while without getting going, this helped a lot.. I agree a lot with the infinite inventory and stamina to begin with, that really did the trick.
I always change the season length so i can get both the taxes and the wife's quest AND feed the village when first starting. I like 30 days. It's way too long, meaning i use the bed to set the length really
Thank you for the information! Very useful, just started playing the game didn't even thought about customizing it! And some things like crafting, being uncumbured or out of stamina kinda makes me annoyed 😂
9:44 my man… why are you so happy about a stone knife? You make that with literal STICKS AND STONES! And leather…. Picking up 1 leather from the ground is a joke when you can just kill deer for that
Your game wont bug out. I meant it makes making money and leveling your skills easy because you can make hundreds of tools and such at once. Normally you would spend all season.
If you are watching this before doing your first play, I recommend you do a test run, see how it goes, and you'll most likely love it as it is, Settings are not a Tip, this is turning the game into building simulator, 14:18 - almost said if you're playing Legit xD But if this is how you like to play it, this is how you will play it. Game is great, and I am looking forward to more updates.
I do not play on normal settings in this game. Don't take my settings seriously. This is one of my games I chill while playing lol. Still most tips are good for everyone. If you want any other tips I can provide. I have more hours in this game than I realized...
@@ryanrobertson5845 Everything but the settings are tips anyone can use. I understand my settings make it carebear. I don't want a challenge in this game plus the setting smake it easier for me to make tutorials.
@@zanderwhitcroft Easy money by mining is not a tip when you do not have unlimited weight. It's your way to play, it's okay, but the way you did the video, some tips actually requires your settings to work.
@@Lupus01140 I feel ya. A workaround one of the commenters shared was storage can he built near a shop or mine. All inventory is shared on the same storages. Never have to haul anything across the map again.
Automation cover was extremely helpful 😅😅 so far i managed to cover villagers living needs but struggled the productivity side of it 😓 now i know enough to get ahead yay thanks!
I honestly love city builders and I play this game just to build up villages. I wish the devs would add a creative type mode with unlocked tech and buildings from the beginning. That's what I truly want because the story is just boring to me.
3 things 1 I like the vid 2 why have hp enabled if enemies do no dmg that feels conflicting to me. And 3 the over weight mechanic is good in my opinion there are options like backpacks and pouches which in early to mid game feel amazing to have after getting due to being able to carry 30 logs at a time.
I concur on the "early" part of the carrying capacity. While the essence of this game is being a laid back RPG, I don't know why I would turn the HP or the carrying capacity on. I just took a full day to collect stones and sticks, crafted about 40 stone knives during the night and went for a villager side quest during the first summer season to get the pouch and backpack. As for the HP, if you see wild animals, just stay away till you can take them on. I haven't died yet and its my first run. No shame in running away!
Zander (yanks XP and Tech to max, leave Dynasty Reputation) "Yeah, that one's balanced enough!" I'm looking kinda funny at you, there...everything else is pretty solid common sense!
lol I admit I play THIS game on easy mode. I only chill and play this. I don't play EVERYthing on easy mode. Hopefully when I get the inspiration to keep uploading I will paly more games and earn the respect.
There are some wrong informations on this video. For example: You are able to move the door on houses. You just need to change the preset door to a window or wall before you replace another segment with the new door.
@@zanderwhitcroft The deepness is awesome .... i built a hunting lodge amd left a few traps around... went off dping a few things came back 3 days later amd i had 3 bears fighting over my chickens 😂😂😂😂😂
I appreciate the feedback. This is one of my first edited recordings and I am not very good YET. What do you suggest I do to improve? How can I make it less boring? I am open to advice.
Ok. Why in God's name is everyone's obsessed with the difficulty? I have only ever wanted people to have fun and learn but it seems playing on "easy mode" invalidates all the advice and hours worth of work I put into the video. Its discouraging. How the hell do I do something generous and there are still people who complain?
@@zanderwhitcroft i think people searching for tips are looking for things that may not be obvious on a first play, not changing actual game settings. if that makes sense. sorry you feel discouraged. this video got a lot of traction which means it's getting recommended above other videos which may be more the sort of thing people were looking for. you might want to change the title and then people won't be upset
The looks are just different clothes you can unlock in the crafting tree. I have 2 outfits one for the winter (quilted vest) and one for summer (short sleeves and shorts). If you haven't gotten that far there are Tailors around the map you are able to buy from. As of now, there is no character creator.
Wow! I'm shocked that someone of your ineptitude struggled with this game. You want to get into it, but can't do it unless someone holds your shlong while you piss because you're unable to do things for yourself. Now.. Begone, Peasant.
And by this video you obviously don't know about about the knife trick, that may I add in 1 hour real time grinding you can make 10,000 😅 2 horses and foul in one hour and max weight as in bags and pouch also for your horse all add up to 2 hours, then you build your village 😂, I'm not being a ass but why not say this, cos all you describe is what you learn by reading what the game tells you
As of current build multiplayer is not available. However, MP is planned in the future after they make sure the game works 100%. Last time I heard next year (2023) is when they plan on testing it.
Thanks @Zander for that extremely well presented beginner tutorial. I have only played about twenty hours so far. I have learned so much from this video that I'm gonna start all over putting your tips to work. Subscribed for more :)
WOW! Thank you, this made a big difference for me in a very positive way. I will try a harder settings when i get to know the game better. 🙂 I always have a little laugh about those that only make a video to show how good they are. Typically they pretend to play it for the very first time, and then they figure out absolutely everything within a second and never do a single mistake.. lol
@@zanderwhitcroft I looked at your video a second time (still new to this game) and i think i have a tips too. When things are deep in the tent in the bandit camps and it looks like you can not reach it, bend down like you do when you sneak close to a animal and you will reach it. (Ctrl on PC)
What’s the fun in playing a non realistic survival game when you just make the settings to your convenience you don’t get challenged at all. I would leave the settings default and extend the seasons because like another comment said. Sometimes you don’t have enough time to complete quests and you can just skip to next season anyways
I know, at the time I made this my mic wouldnt go any higher, I have since gotten a yeti so now people can hear me. Sorry about the low volume and thanks for giving me your time.
@@zanderwhitcroft all good and sorry if it sounded a little brash lol.... it happened to be like the 10th video in a row i watched of various people that i had to crank my volume to max to understand you. but it was informative and helpful keep up the good work!
Just got this game on Game Pass (Xbox) and LUCKILY I am only 4 days in (real life) but playing at night. As a soon to be parent, I think I am going to restart and play differently. It's DEFINITELY a grind, it's fun and fulfilling but man its alot. Unfortunately, not sure if its the same for PC or not, console doesn't let you change game settings once you start. So my village has about 15 buildings and 8 pop already. I think I am starting again when I get home. So MY PERSONAL TIP to anyone starting: Play a test run, then after a few days see if you want to restart with what you know.
There something i would tip for new player. craft stone knife much as they can carry. it's good way to make money from sell them. they all need 5 stick and 2 stone
If you get the money you can buy and grow the seeds and thresh it in a barn. I f you are totally broke then look around the broken down carts along the road while traveling, you can find free oats and grans and tools. Also looting camps gets you tools to sell for good money early on.
@@zanderwhitcroft no i get money from animals but i wanted to know if theres any way i can creat a circle from oat & rey /seed to animal fod and back to rey and oat so i dont need to buy it
@@jawdr0pping510 You can automate the growing and harvesting using the managing tabs, as long as you have bags, hoes and sickles in your storage the barn workers will plant and harvest the field.
Yes. You may find one or two iron nodes before you build a mine, however after a mine is built the cave gets deeper every year. You eventually get a ton of iron nodes. No idea how deep they get but one mine to the south ended up with 3 or 4 exits if I remember.
Oh awesome, thankyou! Great video, going to try the XP boost.. I've resorted to building a resource storage next to 2 mines but it'd be helpfully automating
If you disable the consumption of specific things, will it also disable the "crafters" from pulling the ingredients they need? Ex: if I disable cooked meat will the cook still be able to pull it to make recipes? If I disable sticks will the crafter be able to pull them to make baskets?
Disabling the usage/ consumption will prevent villagers from using the items. For that usage. In the tab to turn off sticks it's under firewood. That means sticks wont be used for firewood. Same applies for food. Disabling consumption of certain foods prevents people from eating it but will allow crafters to pull.
@@zanderwhitcroft interesting, I'll have to look into that more. Imagine getting the "Well earned rest" achievement with 30 day seasons. I've seen people on year 10 and to me that seems like a life time lol. I've got about 120 hours in and am just now finishing up my 3rd year. Although it's probably my 3rd new save file, this playthough being a bulk of those play hours though.
So I just discovered this, never knew I could change things, just entered the game with default, I think I will change the days per season, I find myself a little too short on time to get the secondary missions done. On another note, I just got a donkey after 34 hours of game, and the sense of accomplishment I got, was, is, awesome. Somehow clicking unlimited carry weight and stamina seems like a dynamic that would change the feel of the game and I would recommend for anyone trying things out to think this throught, if you want to just build and create your village, go ahead, but if you want to experience the game more fully... don't. Otherwise what was hard before it's inconsequential now, and it kills the spirit of building up your life. At least I know it would for me.
For sure! I have 2 different saves, one for building and one for survival. Totaly different settings for days when I'm feeling like relaxing and for days when I wanna hunt.
I give myself the first season with fast crafting, unlimited weight and stamina to get setup and then turn them all off come summer. All it does is speed up the early game which I've played through a thousand times already and just want to get to the meaty bits.
thank you for the video, im pretty sure you saved me from either hours of tiral and error or me just quitting early altogether within the first 5 min with the settings tips.
Good stuff. Just started playing on Series S, Gamepass. Love this game, and just as you have done, I adjusted the settings. I played on default settings originally, but it was agony for two particular reasons- Stamina drain and carry limitations. I did it a tad different, but I got rid of both of those as well. In a game so large where you rely on running from point A to point B constantly gathering materials, stamina drain and over encumbrance are just a constant distraction. I end up spending more time managing inventory than anything else. No fun. Between 50 hour work weeks and being a parent of two young kids, I don't have time for all of that. I want to chill out and play the game the way I like. Big kudos to the devs for allowing us to make the decision to allow us all to play the way we like. Great video and good pointers. Thanks for sharing!
It's really triggering me that you call it automation, it's management, actually micro management. If it was automation, you'd just tell them to produce what's demanded, and they'd automatically do it.
Seems like your not playing the game realistically. Taking easy short cuts 🤔. There are items (potion's) and clothing (bags, pouches, etc) that relieve you from carry weight restrictions and potions, perks and herbs (dandelion) which help with stamina.
I found this video really helpful and full of tips I hadn't known about (I played about 10ish hours on normal before watching this) but i'm surprised by all of the hate in the comments? So what if they've turned off certain features that makes the game easier? People who just want a sandbox city-builder but medieval style should be able to do so.....If the devs didn't want it to be an option of gameplay, then they wouldn't have added it. Plain and simple. Keep up the great work!
