Great list guys, I need to check out Fantasy Realms soon. I'm at scary levels of obsession with Sea Salt and Paper on BGA, thankfully my copy should be with me next week! Some of my all time favs you probably have tried I'd imagine: Jaipur, Battle Line (aka Shotten Totten), Hanamikoji, Mandala (thats a card game right?!) and I still love playing Cribbage back home at Christmas! One you might not know I'd say worth checking out, Village Green. It's a solid card game and can also be played solo for Jamie. It's dirt cheap over here (UK) but not sure if imports etc would make it a bit pricey over there.
We call hanabi “the divorce game” because i don’t know what it is but it takes our group of very relaxed “I don’t care who wins just like playing” group and turns them into angry rivals when someone misunderstands a clue 😂 no other game does this for us!
@@FostertheMeeple you should give it a try. The iconography is a little bit challenging but the game was play tested for years and is very well balanced. Give it a try. If you'd like a lesson I could meet you on BGA for a couple of games.
Claim is SO good - needs more love! I adore card games, some of my favorites are: R-Eco, Best Candy on the Block, Tranquility, Min-Hwatu (Korean version of Hanafuda), The Grizzled, The Lost Expedition, Schnapsen (2-player trick-taker using a traditional deck) and Dealer's Dilemma (3-player trick-taker with a traditional deck).
Here to Slay is my top. That being said…… I am shocked!!!! Shocked I say that Silver Bullet is not mentioned. My gf and I are addicted to this thanks to you. And!!!! Last week I just mentioned you guys in my review on Amazon for it.
Great selections. Fist bump on Sea Salt & Paper. It is SO SO GOOD. Fast, fun and petite. Easy to teach, easy to play. Everything you described. It will go with me on every trip! Some other lesser known "pure" card games which make my list include Ohanami, Ninjitsu, and Plantopia.
We have been loving Cat in the box due to your video. It is so unique and love trick taking games. We also are enjoying Star Wars Deck Building game. Just ordered skull king. One we need to get back into is Rage, which seems similar to skull king.
Love the list, all 'new to me' games. Sonso looks super interesting and dig the theme. Sea Salt + Paper is in my cart as we speak. If you guys havent heard of Small Box Games(no affiliation), the desinger has several two player games only containing 54 cards with a several different themes. Worth a check in my opinion, shipping is decent to Canada
I’m dying to get sea salt and paper. No USA release yet booooo. And wow, silver bullet is GONE! Never thought I’d see the day. Fantasy Realms is a very deserving number 1. LOVE that game
I've played 7 of these games and Iove them all! Scout & Parade are sitting on my shelf of shame and now I'm even more excited to get them played 😄 I also really enjoy Conspiracy Abyss Universe and Fairy Trails - you should try them out if you haven't already!
Air, Land, & Sea, Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, Boss Monster, Legendary, Smash Up, and High Command (WarMashine & Hordes).
Yes on Fantasy Realms for small box (such depth and love 1st edition art)! Scoring is fun actually. My two favorite games of all time are card games: Dominion and Innovation. San Juan too.
Didn't even include DC Deck-building? And this video came out on the very day their new Kickstarter for the next expansion launched? Justice League Dark. This would have been a great place to advertise that...and, no. Anyway, that card game is better than any card game here (I say without having played any of the card games here....). No, I don't work for them, I'm not a paid advertiser, just really loved that game. Also, Marvel Remix? I learned about that game FROM THIS CHANNEL! And I love that game. Not on the list....
@@FostertheMeeple Well, since you asked: 1) DC Deck builder - (Teen Titans my favorite, then Heroes Unite) 2) Marvel Remix 3) Unstable Unicorns 4) Marvel Legendary (so many xpacs to sort through, but the Guardians of the Galaxy w/ Thanos is my favorite) 5) Exploding Kittens 6) Monopoly Deal (good to include my kid in that one) 7) Clank! (it's a deck builder) 8) Unmatched (relies heavily on cards) 9) Uno (excellent card game....or, you know, playing cards...) 10) Dominion, which basically kicked off the deck building genre
@@andrewpowers2249I have played 7 out of their top 10 games and while I didn't super enjoy Sea Salt and Paper, I enjoy the other 6 a lot more than any of the 10 games on your list 😅
You're confused about something that's completely subjective. Your opinions on games is irrelevant. This is what they like. It makes no difference whatsoever what you like. If I suggested a band that I love, but you find deplorable, does that mean I'm wrong? No. It's a subjective opinion. Board games are no different. There's no need to comment on board game list videos about how the content creator is forgetting something. They aren't. This is what they like. Not what you like. Suggest games that you like to enhance the communities awareness. Don't make it seem as if you know all just because you like a particular game. You're implying that because you and possibly a lot of other people enjoy something, that they should too. That isn't how opinions work.
Thanks for introducing these to me! Ive only played a few of these...we also love Star Realms, Race for the Galaxy and Condotierre. I would love Coup if I was a better bluffer. And of course, the grandaddies...Netrunner and Magic the Gathering. Thanks guys!
Can't tell if we just have great taste or just have been influenced by your game callouts for years lol. Love SCOUT, SS&P, and Fantasy Realms; and Photograph is on my shelf of shame! I need to try Fuji Flush and Claim still.
My wife and I played Fantasy Realms without looking at the card effects and just playing card based on the name. It went well and both of us got 200+ points. She won.
I have been LOVING Sea Salt & Paper lately!!!! That and District Noir. I just preordered both for Gen Con. I bet you'll see a lot of those two games played at the convention. Nice list otherwise too! 6 Nimmt!, Hanabi, SCOUT, Skull King are all bangers. Notable omissions are Coloretto, Arboretum, Biblios, and basically every trick taking game ever.
This is a fantastic list, though I haven't played all of these games. Sea Salt & Paper is my most played game of the year so far (16 plays, not including BGA). It has taken the place of Parade and Scout as a game I always grab when going out for beer. Wind the Film / Photograph is so quirky and wonderful! I highly recommend In Front of the Elevators for a similar but totally different quirk. I haven't played Skull King yet, but I've played it's dice game brother, Mino Dice, a couple of times. Fun because you bid before you roll your dice and know what you have. Some other favorites not yet mentioned: Nana, Boast or Nothing, For Northwood! (seriously, Jamie, you should get this game it is amazing), Tokkome (a quirky tiny box Japanese game), Piepmatz, annnnd I'll stop now.
Not that you need more, but another couple of good games that I haven't seen mentioned are Paperback and Air, Land, and Sea or Air, Land, and Sea: Critters at War (the cuter version)
Fantasy Realms wins my award for highest ratio of Excitement/Anticipation for playing it to it being THE biggest dud with my group. To the point where my bringing new game privileges were revoked for a few weeks. I was so excited to bring this and it seemed like the perfect game for my casual game group (they LOVE Dominion, but generally turn their noses up at games you can't buy at Walmart or Target.). I'm sure a lot has to do with knowing what combos do what and being familiar with all the cards. But that first game went so bad that people weren't even being nice about how much they hated this game. But I keep on seeing it on lists like this. I might have to try the marvel one since the combos and interactions will make more sense out of the box.
That’s fair! First impressions are everything, and tastes are so subjective it’s impossible to predict what people will enjoy. What a will say is the combos in remix are a bit less obvious than in FR, mainly because there is way more iconography and card types going on.
Unfortunately don’t have any suggestions at the moment but I did recently see that Pandasaurus had picked up the game, so I’m assuming that means you’ll see it becoming available soon.
How did Silver Bullet not make the list? Thank you for all your videos! I found you guys a couple months ago and have basically been binge watching your videos. They have brought me much joy during a stressful time.
@@FostertheMeeple i managed to find fuji flush, sea salt and paper, and skull king on amazon! 🥳 it's going to take up to 2 months to get here.. nonetheless, excited! 😁
For a pure card game, Bohnanza is still something special for me. I love how the cards act as coins when you flip them over, and I love the player interaction. It’s not the sexiest pick, given it’s age, but it’s still a banger to me and would make my top 10, along with The Crew. Fuji Flush is hard to find these days, but your new list might inspire some new purchases, as we absolutely love card games for the same reasons you do.
@@FostertheMeeple In my opinion, 2p would make it a dull experience in the same vein that Catan at 2p would be a dull experience, and the reason for this is the extensive emphasis on trading as a core mechanic. Anyway, we really love the channel. We got into the hobby a year ago, and you guys were one of the first BG channels I subscribed to. It’s the reason we have Silver Bullet on our shelf, my wife’s favorite game we own. 😂
@@coreyray248 yea we’ve heard Bohnanza needs more people, hoping to give it a try at full player count someday! And thanks so much for the kindness!! Still love us a game of SB that’s for sure
Amazing list! Mine might look something like Hanabi The Crew Skull King Jekyll vs Hyde SCOUT Biblios Hanamikoji Schotten Totten San Juan 6 Nimmt I'd love to try Marvel Remix, Claim and Parade.
So many games I love to play (6 Nimmt, Parade) and ones I want to play (Claim, Scout, Sea Salt and Paper). 6 Nimmt on BGA got us through the lockdown during the pandemic. Solid list, guys!
Great list! I would add in: Tichu, Arboretum, Cockroach Poker, Heul Doch Mau Mau, High Society, Plums, Five Three Five, 9 Lives, and Ghosts of Christmas.
Have not played any on your list. However, I've been going back and forth with Sea Salt & pepper. My favorite card games are: 1. Jambo - I love the theme and gameplay. You are a merchant setting up a stand somewhere in Africa. You are trying to buy low and turn it around to sell high. As you are doing so, you are sending animals to your opponent to mess woth their ability to make more money than you. There are artifacts and people that help you cycle through the common deck faster. 2. Rivals of Catan - I really enjoy Cities and Knights of Catan and Rivals is a card game interpretation of that expansion. It adds an element of a memory game in that you can go through 1 of 5 piles of cards to pick a card each time you are adding to your settlement. As the game progresses, your memory of which cards are in which pile gives will give you an advantage over someone who does not have as good of a memory. 3. Star Wars DBG - A deck building game where players build their deck by choosing cards from a central row of cards. 4. Star Realms - gameplay is similar to Star Wars DBG but has a more pronounced synergy between cards.i*ĵ 5. Imperial Settlers - I love civilization themed games. This isca tableau building game where one side of your tableau are cards representing lands you have conquered and the other side are cards that you have annexed into your kingdom.
