Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection is one of the better recent retro collections. Tons of games from various points in the history, lots of quality of life options, and tons of fun bonus material. Definitely deserves a shoutout.

Super Mario All Stars on the SNES was one of the first Game Collections that I remembered and for the time in the mid 90s, it was one of the Best NES to SNES Super Mario Bros games.

The Atari 50 collection comes to mind. its a great look at Atari's gaming history

Super Mario All-Stars is the best Remaster collection I've ever played.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is awesome! One of my favorite games I own on PS3. Namco Museum is awesome too. Great selection of games and the explorable museum is a super cool idea.

An honorable mention goes to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection. If you’re an elderly TMNT fan like me (or just someone who loves retro gaming), it features a baker’s dozen of Konami-developed TMNT games for the arcade, NES, SNES, Genesis and even Game Boy wrapped in a package full of bonus features and unlockables that will be right up your alley.

There is so much competition in this space that my personal number 1, The Atari 50 Collection, didn't even make your list and I totally get it.

I preferred the Mega Man Anniversary Collection & Mega Man X Collection on the Game Cube, the two Street Fighter collections on the PS2 (Street Fighter Alpha Anthology & Street Fighter Anniversary Collection) over the Switch offerings. Also Capcom Classics Collection 1 & 2, The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga, Metal Slug Anthology, Samurai Shodown Anthology, Taito Legends 1 & 2...

Honorable Mention: Street Fighter Alpha Anthology. Released in 2006 exclusively for the PS2, The Alpha Anthology was a collection consist of a total of 7 Games, 2 of them are Hidden: Hyper Street Fighter Alpha & Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper. If you really didn't have a PSP at the time when releasing their last home port of Alpha 3, then you'd most likely to enjoy Alpha 3 on the PS2, especially when there's 2 versions of the game. Beating Arcade Mode with any Character Unlocks Upper & completing Arcade Mode with every Game (Including Upper) unlocks Hyper Street Fighter Alpha.

I've had the SEGA Mega Drive Collection on the PS3, PS4, and PS5. It's perfect for dropping in and out between releases and it is thanks to the set that I finally finished Streets of Rage 3 last year.

The ultimate Mega Drive collection only came out for Xbox 360 and PS3. The Switch got the Sega Mega Drive Collection. Same concept but some games are different and the interface is a 3D room instead of the 2D menu in the ultimate collection

TMNT Cowabunga Collection and Rare Replay for me

Great list, though a little surprised there’s no Atari 50th Anniversary Collection on it.

There are clearly a few collections on this list that The Cowabunga Collection could have took the place of. Also im gonna need you to redo this list when Capcom eventually does the Resident Evil collection.

My only gripe for the Street Fighter Collection is that Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold and the Dreamcast Version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 weren’t included in the collection. This is why I still own The Alpha Anthology Collection

I was so sure Taito Legends 2, for PS2, Xbox and PC, was going to be mentioned! The Darius games, Ray Storm, Cammeltry (that one may be niche, but I enjoy the hell out of it), and so many more Great Taito games, together, make TL2 a great collection, to at least make an honorable mention of, along with Midway Arcade Treasures 3 (mostly because of Hydro thunder, and the fun, yet visually sickening to me, Offroad Thunder, and Rush 2049). Otherwise, yeah, this is a great list, Triple Jump, You cant go wrong with any of these. Funny enough, after the Sonic Ultimate MD/Genesis collection on PS3 and Xbox 360 (Released in February 2009), and the Sonic Classic Collection for DS (Released in March 2010), Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles would either be missing in action, or, now, have its music changed (in Sonic Origins), following the death of Michael Jackson in June 2009. That's definitely why I enjoy having the Sonic Ultimate Genesis collection on PS3, since that's the best and last real good genesis compilation for me. Well, beyond keeping the S3+K music, the game selection was really great! The recent Sega MD/Genesis collection, for the eight gen consoles, had a weak as F selection for me. I did like the Streets of Rage trilogy (to which a Japanese option for the 3rd one would have been nice, even Lame-Assed Konami (as they are these days) does that with their collections), the localization of Alien Storm, by the great company Treasure, Toe jam and Earl (just the first one), Golden axe 2 and 3, and Vectorman (just the first one, the second one's level of development effort shows the struggles it had to be as good as the first). That's just eight out of fifty (i think) games I really cared for (I hate Sonic 1, ironically, and I have had enough of playing Sonic 2 and having it thrown back in my face, like its my abandoned child or something), and I am still mad they didnt even put Ranger-X (Ex-Ranza in Japan!) in the collection, that addition would have made it perfectly good enough for me, cause in every game collection for any company, I only like 20-50 percent of whats available anyways. But that's the greatness of understanding the making of "something for everyone" collections, aint it now! Lastly, I swear, for Sega as an example, instead of giving everyone divisive MD/Genesis collections of mostly repeat choices, and a few randoms sprinkled in, why dont they get a good, and I mean GOOD, emulation engine and just plop most of their library of games on one compilation, or compilations with no less than, errrr...., 250 games and just keep re-releasing it (40 dollars the first time and 20 dollars, maybe every year or two thereafter). I waited to Get the Sonic MD/Genesis collection when it was super cheap on sale, digitally, for my Switch, due to the mentioned slowdown/latency issues and selection I mostly did not like! Honestly, I still wouldn't ever pay full price for a Genesis collection, since I have much "Cheeeeeeeaper" options, if ya catch ma drift...., but some people would, and it may still be a beneficial profit to Sega, and even Nintendo with its NES/SNES games, but Sega is dumb AF when it comes to making money, and Nintendo can be a little capitalistic, extortionary and use hostage tactics with their classics! LOL, OOOOH, you want that Super Mario Bros. from 1985, well its goin to cost ya, and if you try to get fishy and get it by any means WE DON'T LIKE, we'll sue the pants off ya, and take your little Neko (cat)! Actually, let me not give Nintendo ideas on that cat part!

Aren't the games on the Castlevania advanced collection the metroidvania games on GBA ? I wanna buy it but I've never heard of any of the games on it. But I think that's because it never had a GBA. And 007 has been added to the rare replay collection.

Two of my first purchases when I got a Switch were the first volumes of the Mega Man and Mega Man X Legacy Collections. I’ve been a Nintendo Kid since the late ‘80s and Mega Man was my favorite franchise back in the day, the NES/SNES-era games (especially MM3 and the original MMX) were among my favorites. And in re: the slowdown, you’re not joking. That was a crucial part of playing the 8-bit (and to a lesser extent 16-bit) Mega Man games, as a kid I even thought it was intentional on the dev’s part before I found out how computers work.

Sonic mega collection plus was a fun video game collection if you are a sonic fan. The Menu music is full of nostalgia.

I'd put the PS2 version of the Mega Anniversary Collection. It has 1-8, which is 2 more than what we got in Legacy collection 1 (though 2 included the others along with Mega Man 9 and 10.)

Ehh, minor nitpick, but I think the Atari was more known in the 70's, rather than the 80's... Nintendo sorta usurped that decade after that infamous game crash As for the SNK collection... There's still the Neo Geo Mini, unless you want to buy individual games for cheap on practically every current console and Steam nowadays

Nco museum one, ToyPop is by far my favorite. Crazy that it's the perfect game for a revamp, yet it's been forgotten about over the years. I remember playing this game like 50 times with my mom because as long as one person stayed alive, the second could come back. Beat the snot out of that old witch and always wanted to hop back on for another run through.

Im very suprised Taito Legends vol 1 didn't get in before Namco Museum Vol 1 to be honest.

Does anyone actually enjoy any Atari 2600 game? I had one when I waa five and even back then I knew it sucked. I could get maybe half an hour of fun out of it and that was using my imagination because you jad to with those things. Aside from maybe Pitfall, which is actually a decent game, every 2600 game is either a single screen that loops infinitely, a simple infinitely scrolling screen, or if you're really lucky a handful of simple screens like Yar's Revenge or even the dreaded ET. I was floored the first time I fired up Super Mario Brothers Christmas morning of 1988 (I think, maybe it was 87) and realized there was an actual world in that cartridge with variety, and the game actually had a goal! You could beat the game! 2600 games were almost always just high score afgairs.

Mega Man Anniversary Collection, PS2 Xbox original and GC, is better than Mega Man Legacy Collection. It has the first six games plus mega man 7 and 8.

I wish Activision Classics and Midway Arcade Treasures were on Switch. Microsoft and Warner Bros. own those, so that’s never going to happen…

Now, while the MegaMan Legacy Collection is good and has a lot of content, The Anniversary Collection has a bit more. It has both MegaMan 7 & 8, as well as the two arcade titles. It also has a Navigation mode that is similar to the one used in the Japanese exclusive Complete Works editions

The original megaman legacy collection on the GameCube is superior in every way. It includes 7 and 8 as well as two megaman fighting games.

In my opinion. When it comes to mega man collections the PS2 is the better version it has all 8 on disc plus bonus games of mega man power battle 1 and 2 on disc. A previously unreleased fighting games to consoles for the first time

The Switch received an entirely different Sega Genesis compilation, with a good chunk of games not available in the original Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. Most notably, it was also missing a good chunk of games that were included in the UGC compilation, such as the unlockable arcade and Sega Master System titles. Also, shame on you for omitting the TMNT Cowabunga Collection and the MGS collection(s) and for putting Rare Replay under Arari 2600 and Midway arcade compilations. Rare Replay is the creme de la creme of video game compilations with an unparalleled selection of rare and quality titles along with behind the scenes interviews and videos.

I bought Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3 from a used game store last year for like $12, and it’s worth every penny. It even includes unlockables like the obscure Master System game Golden Axe Warrior and arcade games like Shinobi and Zaxxon, making it a bargain. Between it, the Genesis Mini 2, and the Contra & Castlevania collections, I have pretty much every Genesis game I ever wanted.

Capcom Fighting Collection is pretty damn sweet.
