A couple of things from a Londoner... Firstly, well done on this. Especially for the Walkie Talkie recommendation. It has the best sunset London has to offer. 1. In addition to the 4 and 88 bus routes, I’d recommend the 11. It goes from St Paul’s Cathedral, along Fleet Street & the Strand, past Nelson’s Column, Downing St, Big Ben and Kings Road. 2. It’s free to go to the Houses of Parliament. You will have to go through security but you can then wander round the public bits, watch a debate or committee hearing etc, 3. Throughout Britain, all national museums and galleries are free, and a lot of them are in a London. The best, IMHO, are the Science Museum (nearest tube is South Kensington), the Museum of Childhood (Bethnal Green), Tate Britain (Pimlico) and the British Museum (Museum).
If you do the walk along the south bank of the thames, I would recommend walking a bit further on east from tower bridge. It is a lot less touristy and really quaint and pretty with some great pubs!
I didn't know about the Sky Garden Observatory! It seems gorgeous, I'll definitely go there next time I go to London! :) I would personally have added the British Museum and the National Gallery to this top, they're both great and free!
As a Londoner, I was glad to hear you emphasise the risk of bag-theft or pick pocketing. However, it is most certainly not confined to Buckingham Palace; Oxford Street is probably the worst area, frequented by gangs from Romania (you'll see them, resting at Marble Arch!); the street beggars are also organised in gangs. I'm proud of this city, but please be vigilant :)
@@Landshark2020 You've picked one of the best times to visit (children - back at school, weather - good etc); do let me know if you've specific interests, here and I'll give you the "inside track".
Great list! I never heard of the Sky Garden Observatory. As I love great overlooks, I will definitely have to check that out on a future trip. I think someone else mentioned it in the comments, but I also recommend checking out the British Museum. There is so much to see inside the museum (I spent 1-2 hours there during my last trip to London but you could spend even more time in there), and it is absolutely free!
I did most of these when I was in London 2 weeks ago, and I'd like to add Camden Town to this list, it's a great eclectic area with lots of great shops and cafes
Camden town is great! And the only reason it's not on THIS list, is I made a whole separate video on the Camden Markets. That will be coming out next Friday :)
One of my favorite videos on youtube..especially when you went in the m&m's,and Lego store,of course i really wanted to see more in there..great video, and thank you for sharing.. Cheers from Yemen
Check out opening times for national museums and galleries as some are open later in the evenings on odd days in the week up to 9 pm. And they're often quieter. Also, check out the British Library near Euston station.
Where in the World can you see the Sunflowers by Van Gogh or The Haywain by Constable for free? The National Gallery, adjacent to Trafalgar Square that's where! Not just these 2 either - Hundreds of great paintings from around the world! Bonus - The National Portrait Gallery is next door and that has 100s of great paintings as well.
When I was walking around Hyde park there was a guy standing on a crate box shouting about how the queen and royal family are secretly Lizard People haha
Great video. Enjoyed it. The 'Tate Modern' is an art gallery and not a museum. You did not mention the actual Museums like The Bitish Museum, The VA, Natural History etc as they are all free. Perhaps cover them in another video. Must mention the Globe Theatre which is not free but only £5.00 to stand and seeing a play there is amazing and standing is the best place to see the performance. Love your style and editing etc. Keep going. Great stuff.
While the Tate Modern is part of the "Tate Gallery" system, it, and its brethren Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool, Tate St. Ives, etc, are not actually Art Galleries. An Art Museum is in the business of displaying art for it to be seen. An Art Gallery is in the business of displaying art *for it to be bought*. The Tate Modern does not sell its pieces, so it is not an art gallery, it is an art museum.
If you have small kids and wish to see change of guards parade, better take your juniors to the barracks from where the parade start.. its close to palace and children will enjoy more there. Another free amusement is to travel in the tube late evening on weekends (tube runs all night) especially Friday when Brits start partying for weekend and you will see youngsters drunk and enjoying... music, fun.. I love it.. hahahaha
Telephone booths are actually called Telephone Boxes. Big Ben is the name of the bell inside the clock tower, so you would actually say that they built a giant lego version of the Houses Of Parliament.
1st tour of London - I have seen Buckingham palace , walking it's surrounding area , visiting it's near very big garden, watch & walk on London tower amazing big bridge, saw verious cruises in the themes river, riding and touring by a cruise in themes river. This area is full of large deffernt beautiful designed & shape old and new constructed building. Really themes rever beach area is 💓 of London according to my personal feeling. This is not possible to describe for myself.
Couldn't help noticing how you said these two areas. They are pronounced "Cov-ent" garden rather than "co-vent" and "Piccadilly" rather than "Picca-deli" Great explanation video nonetheless. Keep up the good work!
Great tips! I live near London but hadn't heard about the Sky Garden Observatory before. Will definitely check it out next time I'm showing friends or family round London!
Beware of pickpockets in any crowd and thieves on motorbikes and bicycles as they would spoil your enjoyment of this amazing city. Be sure to head east to Brick Lane, Commercial St and Shoreditch High St.
The older more historic"London bridge" was sold in the 60's and shipped bit by bit to the USA! It was too narrow for modern cars having originally meant for a horse and cart. Then rebuilt some where in Arizona. ....................(ps ask a local how to pronounce Covent) Great videos by the way.
Free things ? Take a bus from Oxford Street to Old Street roundabout. Walk down to Bunhill Fields Cemetry and you are indeed in an old place. Lots of interesting tombstones including that of William Blake, John Bunyan and Daniel Defoe.
Don't forget that u can climb monument statue with it's ova 300 steps for free or a verry respectable price. You get a certificate for doing so & it's quite cool! :D
Sort of, the "London Bridge " in Arizona was one of many, that one was the Georgian version. The most famous one was the Mediaeval London Bridge that had gate house tower's, Churches, shops and houses on it. The one from the nursery rhyme was supposed to be the Anglo Saxon/Viking era Bridge as it always was need of repair. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u5CguqywlBk.html
As a Londoner this video is very good and recommendations are all worthwhile. Had to laugh at the pronunciation- Covent Garden is not Co-vent it’s pronounced Cov-ent - Americans, we love em !!
