Agreed. Their matches with the Hardys and DX were amazing. It also seemed to help both men as former world champs who were in danger of suffering in the midcard.
@@CalpsotomaPeople kinda liked Cena back then he had rivalries with the undertaker and Eddie Guerrero why couldn’t he had one with the rock? Even if cena didn’t came successfully he was a entertaining Midcard
I remember Owen Hart vs Brian Pillman on Raw. I think it was part of the IC title tournament. They start out acting like great sportsmen, trading amateur holds and takedowns, giving each other clean breaks, and no punches or kicks. But as the match progressed they started to get pissed at each other and it turned into a brawl. It was hilarious!
Heels attack each other all the time in Royal Rumbles, Ladder Matches, and (sometimes) Fatal Four Way and Triple Threat Matches. I remember really loving the 2005 Royal Rumble because at one point four Raw guys and four SmackDown guys teamed against each other regardless of face/heel status! Not to mention the "Bragging Rights" pay-per-view of the late 2000s.
Looks like they're trying to create some new heel vs heel magic this year with Reigns vs Lesnar. But whatever, Styles vs Nakamura is the real main event.
He's heel to a lot of people, despite what WWE wants us to think. Cena vs Taker should be good but Taker isn't as athletic as he used to be, which is understandable. I'm not saying it's gonna suck, but I'm not expecting much. I think his retirement last year was perfect and should've been left that way. With Styles vs Nakamura we have two of the best wrestlers in the world, at the top of their game, fighting at Wrestlemania for the WWE Championship. If their Wrestle Kingdom 10 match is any indication they will be match of the night. Shit, Styles, much like Shawn Michaels before him, has match of the night no matter where he's placed on the card. His match with Shane opened Mania last year and it was the best match of the show next to Neville vs Aries (who had no business being on the pre-show) imo. WWE needs to give them free reign to tear the house down.
He included Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels though they were in Canada and Bret is a face to canadians and got face reactions by the crowd. It is just fair to have that work the other way around, also and not include Reigns as he is not a heel in WWES' eyes.
"In WWE's eyes". Not mine. Your point is fair. It's clear they're trying to make Reigns the face in this situation with Brock over the pat 2 weeks, but I'm not really looking forward to the match at this point. AJ vs Shinsuke is where it's at imo
Shhhhh! JBL's championship run was super frustrating and that's the point of being a heel champ! He did great and created a star! It was magical when I was a child
Awesome shout-out to HBK and Martel from Summerslam '92, no doubt a show-stealer for how ridiculously entertaining Shawn and Rick made the whole thing.
Edge was one of the greatest superstars of all time, but yes. People tend to look at the new superstars as amazing like Balor or Rollins, and forget to look back at the golden days of WWE. Edge, Mysterio, Angle in his prime. So much greatness.
@@TonyStarks1986 It's hard to base that on crowd reaction though. The fans usually cheered Joe despite him usually being a heel. Fans often cheer heels and boo faces. I'm going by the role each guy played going into the match.
Worth an honorable mention: Ric Flair vs Triple H on Raw May 19, 2003. Both were heels, both were members of Evolution. After getting banged up defending his title against Kevin Nash, Triple H was not given a night off. He was made to choose to defend his title against any former champ. He chose Flair. Although Flair was seen as babyface, he was technically a heel. He didn't have a face turn after that match. I will spare you the details, but on that night it seemed believable that maybe on the night that Triple H was nursing battle wounds, Ric might win it.
Even Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar match in Survivor Series 2018 was amazing ...both of them were playing the role of a heel. That match was so entertaining and the heel vs heel thing made it even more interesting and entertaining.
One match that was left off the list was HBK v. British Bulldog at One Night Only 97. Like Hart/Michaels, the heel face dynamic was clearer overseats, as Bulldog was insanely over in Europe. However, he was still technically a heel, while Michaels had completed his heel turn. If you include non-WWE matches, you could also throw in Tyler Black v. Roderick Strong at Glory By Honor 10, as Black had just turned heel on his way out of the company, while Strong was the established heel thanks to his partnership with Truth Martini.
WWE home video should release a HEEL VS. HEEL DVD set featuring these classic bouts as well as others not mentioned.. no doubt that it would be a best seller
96-97 was the golden age of the heel vs heel dynamic. Austin, mankind, vader, psycho sid etc. None of which were ever portrayed as friends like every single heel of the modern era are. Then we had the hart foundation, nation of domination and DX all constantly at eachothers throat. I loved the line burring of the heel and face during those years
I remember back when I was a young adult boy and watching Moday Night Raw every time it came on the TV. With such stars as the Udertaker and Bret The Hitmn Hart, I had a whle of a good time.
I remember a match that was included on the WWF rampage 1991 vhs tape between the orient express (with Fuji) vs power and glory (with slick). I think they brawled to a double countout. Two true heel teams. I also think slick and fuji came to blows at one stage.
Also to add about Owen's and Davey Boy Smith's best matches in WWE, not only did Owen and Bulldog shine best against Bret or each other, but Owen and Bulldog had great chemistry with Shawn Michaels as well. Go back to the series of matches Shawn had with both Owen and Bulldog from 1995-1996. They were incredible displays of workrate, and in ring athleticism. Especially during this period in WWE.
I just wrestling lists to kill time whilst having a poo. I was also just jesting to show support for cultaholic. But i'm happy for you to think i'm a virgin my brother x
Yes, but the problem is, when you see Triple H, you hate him because he cheats, but, as a smart, you know he deserves to be there. Jbl simply didn't have the in ring skills to back it up. Also, long reigns can be boring, and if someone is killing the ratings of both TV shows and PPVs, it means people are not INTERESTED in him, either heel or face
Stone Cold vs. The Rock at WM17 (ignoring THAT heel turn) Both Taker vs. Michaels WrestleMania matches The first Rock vs. Cena match at WrestleMania The New Day vs. The Shield at Survivor Series Struggling to think of anymore that were amazing to be honest, maybe Styles vs. Lesnar at SS if you count Brock as a babyface. Also for this video's list, I would have definitely put Usos vs. Sheamus and Cesaro on it.
Cena vs rock was not good. You forgot to ,emotion hogan vs ultimate warrior from wrestlemania 6 and Bret hart vs Shawn Michaels iron man match from wrestlemania 12.
I just knew you would mention that edge and randy Orton match on raw. It was a classic and the way randy bled just added to the match. It was originally going to air on the previous episode of raw but John Cena vs hbk went too long
The JBL vs. Kurt Angle match actually didn't make a lick of sense. Why didn't the two of them just lay down for each other for a count of 10 and end it in an intentional draw? The only way this could have worked is if the loser actually lost his place in the upcoming triple threat match at the Rumble. Then there would actually be some stakes.
Randy Orton vs. Sheamus should be on here too. Led to Randy Orton's face turn at WrestleMania and the dissolution of The Legacy and the Triple Threat Match between Randy Orton, Ted Dibiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes.
The Iliad was face vs face in almost all its major battles; take an international poll and people will probably be split down the middle between Hector and Achilles. Although to be fair, Paris was definitely the heel in his battle with Menelaus (this is in reference to your passing reference to the Iliad in your intro).
I think MITB 2013 was when I first realized how good Cody Rhodes could be. The crowd got behind him big time, and he put on a show. I would say it's a shame he didn't win, but I'm sure he doesn't lose sleep over it, being the EVP of his own wrestling promotion now.
Heel vs heel so rare makes no sense at all,the should fight every time with each other. Main problem for heel in title chase are heels, because they are cheater and unexpected unlike faces.
It's crazy on Kurt Angles debut he walked to the ring face, but left heel. They really thought the 3 Is was a face gimmick. His original gimmick is my favourite Angle gimmick
One of my all time favorite heel vs heel matches is one that I knew wasn't going to be on the list because it's very obscure. I don't even know when and where it took place. I'm guessing about 1985. or early 1986 cause the dream team was the reigning tag champs at that time. I rented a Colosseum Home Video one weekend from Blockbuster and saw a very rare tag match that had Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine going against The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff. I remember really enjoying it because at that time in the 1980s heel vs heel matches were almost never done on tv. They happened a little more at house shows, but never on tv. The crowd sided with Beefcake & Valentine over Sheik & Volkoff simply for the fact that while The Dream Team may have been bad guys at least they were American.
I think Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon at wrestlemania X deserves a spot on this list. Since they were both heels at that time and it was the best ladder match ever in WWE!
Why does everyone talk so negatively of JBL’s title reign? Sure the guy is a piece of shit off camera, but he was very entertaining during his title reign. His promos were excellent and he had some pretty good matches too, although he also had some pretty terrible ones.
What about HHH VS Roman Reigns WrestleMania? Or how about Umaga VS Mr.Kennedy VS Carlito for the IC Championship ar SummerSlam 2007? Wasn't that a good heel vs heel vs heel match?
