Just to clarify, the final game and likely one of my favorites on the list is Tactics Ogre. I said Final Fantasy Tactics once in the voice over mistakenly. Honestly I’ve made this mistake probably several times hahaha. Yasumi Matsuno is the GOAT and made a couple of the best tactics games of all time. Either game could be on this list. I also prefer Tactics Ogre both are very similar though.

You nailed most of the greats - Devil Survivor being my personal favorite. I haven't played all of the ones on your list, but my own honorable mentions would include Fire Emblem Awakening and The Diofield Chronicle. Also heard great things about the Langrisser games.
Love the list, and it has even given me some new titles to enjoy. That being said a top 10 SRPG list isn't complete without at least even a mention of Final Fantasy Tactics/War of the Lions/Advance/A2 and Stella Deus.
Fire Emblem Engage is SO underrated. The story is not bad at all and had me crying in early hours due to excellent and expedient character development, and the combat and maps are insane. The most fun maps I’ve ever played
To be honest I hated the story and still loves the game ! It's probably the 3 or 4th best map design of the franchise (Thracia/RD/PoR would be my top 3) and the gameplay is at least on the same level. So even if I don't agree with you (omg the story is shit) I also find the game totally underrated !
Ogre! The crown jewel of the genre. Playing it for the first time last year was eye-opening. So deep. So well written. The voice acting grew on me and the music is great.

I loved Valkyria Chronicles 1 and just bought 4 on sale for the switch. I bought triangle strategy late last year and need to play it I want to play 13 sentinels pretty bad, it looks great I backed fel seal on Kickstarter and loved it. Haha final fantasy tactics ogre. Love it. Love both games too One of my favorite tactical games of all time is vandal hearts
i’m on the verge of finishing my fifth (third on maddening) playthrough and it’s just insane how replayable it is with how many builds you can try since any character can be any class (except for a few unique classes for lords) and be equipped by any skills and any emblem. So many configurations to try !!
Fell Seal is so damn good and I find that it has almost as much "endless gameplay potential" as something like Disgaea but omg the terrible character portraits really bother me lmao. it has big mobile game energy despite being a really good game (which is kind of funny considering FFT is stuck on phones in the modern day, actually...) great list! I'd probably put Cross Tails on it too if you've played it. I also think people should check out Brigandine: Legend of Runersia. it wasn't super for me but it plays differently than most SRPGs and there is a lot going on in the game; I feel like a lot of people will love it.
Great list. My own personal top 5 is: 1. Triangle strategy 2. Front mission 3 (the whole series really) 3. Final Fantasy Tactics 4. Gloomhaven (not technically "j") 5. Tactics Ogre Reborn Hopefully unicorn overlord is as great as these games.
Fire Emblem Engage is very obviously my personal fav SRPG of all time. I fricken love the ludicrously fun tactical combat in the game and the maps. Just a master stroke of combat/gameplay. Pretty graphics, art, and OST. I personally quite like some of the characters, namely Yunaka and Veyle for being 2 of the few characters that were written quite well. Loved the video! Also, I feel the SMT Devil Survivor games could've/should've been here. Wonderful combat and heavy thought stories. The best indie SRPG in my opinion is Banner of the Maid. Very Fire Emblem esque, made by Chinese developers based on the French Revolution. Game was hard, strategic goodness I tell ya! Would personally change out Three Houses for Path of Radiance. PoR actually has a good story just like 3H does, but has better combat and isn't weighed down by bland filler life sim monastery segments.
How good is Triangle Strategy compared to Octopath Traveler 2 in terms of story/character quality? I bought Triangle Strategy on Steam a year ago & never played it, but been putting tons of hours into OT2 the past few weeks. It's blown my mind how amazing it is, and your video just reminded me I've had Triangle Strategy all this time too. I know they're different, but if the story & characters are anywhere near as enjoyable, I gotta play it!
The story and characters in Triangle Strategy are the main draw in my opinion. In many ways it tops OT2 in that department. It’s just an added bonus that the strategy gameplay is also top tier!
I know this list its about only JRPGs, Im very interest about your personal Tactical RPG no "J"... Perhaps we'll see XCOM 2 or Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga?... I'am waiting for the next. Tks for the video and 13 Sentinels I really don't know this game.
Yggdra Union is my favorite tactical rpg but my best tactical game would go to Knights in the Nightmare. Requires alot of planning on how to get the item. For the game on the list, I have played Devil Survivor. The game is vwry tactical on how it handles the event outside the combat. The game is abit "unga bunga" since free battle is a very easy way to get overpowered. Thankfully, the game is beatable without doing free battle(although its pretty tough in my opinion).
I'm really glad to see Engage here when you are talking about "tactics". Yeah the game has a bad story and to be honest I find you generous because to me it was simply awful and one of the worst story I have follow in my life but gameplay elements were so fun that as a tactical it was a really solid game. The last one that was better on this aspect was like 16 years ago (Radiant Dawn) so it was really surprising to me. This game is so fuckin fun. Three Houses is a great game but not a great tactical imo he probably as the third worst level design of FE franchise (the last two being Echoes which I do love like 3H for other reasons and Awakening which is pure garbage tactically speaking). The game does have a really good replay value despite that but the strong point of 3H isn't tactical, more the overall inspiration of Persona and those characters . But I prefer FE over Persona so it couldn't be my favorite. Tactically speaking Engage is maybe a top 5 FE Game (Thracia and Radiant Dawn being absolute best I would put PoR before Engage so it would be on part on the 4th place with New Mystery. 3H is more on the narrative side. The absolute best on this aspect would be Genealogy. I would put PoR&RD over 3H but it helps that it's a whole, two games that makes each other better. I do think that Tellius is by far the best FE world tho. That would make 3H probably 4 of the 17th FE that is already pretty good. Engage would be the worst with Fates tho, and Awakening is not far either 😂 I want to mention Sacred Stones on the character side characters and support are really funny in this game. It's not a big FE game but he is at least good in almost everything and L'Arachel is the funniest FE character period.
I misspoke in the voice over but I did put it in the video title text, chapter description, and showed the game in the video. Minor slip up in the voice over but yes Ogre is amazing so is the original Tactics. I prefer Ogre and thoroughly enjoyed the Switch re-release so that’s why it’s on this list.
And it looks like you accidentally added “Final Fantasy” to the title. The game is just “Tactics Ogre Reborn”. Hopefully we do get that FFT remake soon. Good game list though.
