There is another one: the Frank Mir curse. Quite interesting. Most of the fighters that beat Mir, went on to lose their next fight. Only three avoided this curse: Brock, Fedor and Cormier.

I don't think a curse should count if it doesn't affect you until like a year or 3 title defenses later because if that's the case then anything can be considered a curse because it will eventually happen. a curse should be something that happens pretty immediate

The whole video game cover thing probably comes from choosing athletes who's popularity is peaking, which could well coincide with their abilities peaking, especially in a sport that moves as quick as MMA.

The EA curse used to exist in football (the one with the spherical ball) too with the FIFA cover stars getting severe injuries or a severe drop in form, although the curse was broken in 2017 and hasn't happened again since.

The EA Sports curse is caused by regression to the mean. Okay, I don't know if it's "regression to the mean" in a strict sense but hear me out. You get to be on the cover of those games after putting together a long successful streak. We all know the longer a winning streak goes on the more likely it is to come to an end in the next fight or soon thereafter.

Instead of the EA Curse, you could have called it a ‘cover curse’ and extended it even further. In 2009, Forrest Griffin was the cover of Undisputed and lost his next fight to Anderson Silva. Brock was the cover athlete in 2010 and even though he beat Shane Carwin, he got dominated and nearly stopped first round, and lost his next two fights after. And, after Conor was announced for the UFC 2 cover, he lost to Nate Diaz before the game even came out.

Quite a few of these I didn't even know about. You could do a list of commentators that mostly choose the wrong fighter, too. Such as Kenny Florian.

In hockey, some players don't shave during the playoffs. It represents the player's singular focus to win the cup, sacrificing everything else, even hygiene. So I can understand why fighters who take time to get a haircut lose their match.

Hear me out, the ME curse, so the very first ufc fighter I ever saw was Al Iaquinta after he lost to khabib but I didn’t actually speak to him as he was kinda on the move in the opposite direction and I didn’t wanna miss meeting… Jimmie Rivera and Marlon Moraes before their fight happened, now this is at the Barboza vs Lee event, I met Rivera first, he would then go from 21-1 to being 2-4, and Marlon of course would beat Rivera then Assuncao then the saddest loss streak ever, now Al is important because he did beat Kevin Lee in his next fight, now fast forward to the Cejudo vs Dillashaw event, I actually met Al Iaquinta this time and then he would go on a 3 fight loss streak, I also met Gian Villante who at the time was coming off of a win in a 3-3 skid, then he loses 4 straight. I think that’s enough to classify it as a real curse, I don’t wanna meet my favorite fighters
