Yeah... I'm with the airlines on this one. Having a plane divert because someone who's barely holding it together has a full-blown panic attack over a scene in movie would be horrible for everyone.

I was riding a Greyhound bus about five years ago and was surprised to learn that they offered movies. I was even more surprised that the movie shown was "Sully," about the near-disastrous emergency airplane landing on the Hudson River. It's probably in Greyhound's financial interest to scare people about air travel, but I'm sure they'd never show "Speed" (about the terror bombing attempt on a bus).

I always loved watching "Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer". I thought that Yukon Cornelius licked his pick axe because he was tasting it to see if there was gold or silver on the ground where the pick axe landed when he threw it in the air.

to be specific: Yukon Cornelius was LOOKING FOR peppermint. he was throwing his pickaxe and then tasting it to see if it tasted like pepppermint (had he struck peppermint) supposedly he finds his peppermint mine toward the end of the movie, but that got cut

I watched Rudolph as a child in the 60s. I always imagined the pick-ax would taste of different metallic ores. Made sense to me when I was six. Peppermint would have confused the hell out of me. Glad they cut it.

Another weird deleted scene would be from the 1976 movie Carrie. Originally, the film was planned to open with a young Carrie being beaten by her mother for asking a neighbor about her breasts, which would cause the girl to instinctively summon a meteor shower. This scene was not included because the director was not convinced by the effects. Although said scene is adapted from the book, it would have been very weird in the final cut, not to mention that seeing a meteor shower recreated with 70s technology would have been quite bizarre. Sadly, said scene never came to light.

I'm now wondering where my parents got the copy of Rudolph I saw as a little kid(late '80s & early '90s). I definitely remember him licking his pick axe and saying he hit a peppermint vein. Maybe someone had recorded it the first year it aired and we had the tape. And now, I'm going to stay up all night looking through old tapes to find it. I don't currently have a working VCR, but I'm hoping it has a year written on the label.

I actually laughed on the airplane scene being cut. When I was waiting in my room waiting for the staff to come and transfer me to the gurney and go in for surgery, I was watching a documentary about "The Hospital of Death"... at a hospital. That I was about to be put under for. Did it bother me? Not even remotely. It may have been a hotel. I can't really remember.

The one scene that I noticed was rewatching the original Austin powers movie on Netflix recently and the scene with Christian Slater plays a guard & Austin hypnotise him or something like that telling slater to go and get some orange sherbet. A cross eyed slater repeats him in a British accent.

The pie fight scene in _Dr. Strangelove_ also contained a line that goes something like, “My President has been cut down in his prime!” This is why the scene was considered in poor taste after the JFK assassination. What is in bad taste is *_COLORIZED_* footage from _Dr. Strangelove._ Have you no decency, sir?!

I used to work for an inflight magazine, and there were all kinds of things you couldn't show. Obviously anything to do with plane crashes, but also less obvious things like matches (they might make people think about fire).

@@adde9506 Actually, this was around 1980 and you could still smoke on airline flights. There was actually a smoking section (you had to specify when you bought your ticket). Hard to imagine now. The "no smoking" light (which still exists) would turn off when you were allowed to light up, just like the seatbelt light. Now it's just permanently on.

If you're going to mention the cuts to rain man for airplanes you could make a much longer list of movies that aren't even allowed to be shown on airplanes or other movies that have massive cuts in them before they can be shown on airplanes. Anything that has an air crash in it or anything else that would make people nervous about being on a flight including dialogue on the subject are cut from films immediately before they can be shown in there's probably been hundreds of films affected by this.

~~Remember seeing The Program week it released,had a lot of energy, was pretty sweet&cool. Couldn't even fathom the desire to mimic/reproduce said scene?&simple common sense. The sperm bank scene from the Big Bang Theory wasn't edited out of the pilot; the entire first pilot, which contained that scene, wasn't aired. It failed to sell the series to the network, and a new pilot was shot, which resulted in the series getting a green light. The original pilot, which can be found on YT in pieces, had a different female lead named Katie, and a very different feel.

Big Bang Theory; I don't know if you can still find it, but the (i guess) per-pilot 1st episode. There is no Raj and Howard, they are replaced by a girl scientist who once had a night with Sheldon. Oh, Sheldon like girls with big asses also. Penney had slept with her step father, and they live in what can only be called a 'crack apartment block" . It's like the bizarro big bag theory
