In this video I recommend 10 Books like THREE BODY PROBLEM!
3 Body Problem was recently brought to Netflix and I actually enjoyed it as much as I hoped I would. With that said it gave me the itch for some HARD Sci Fi.
After Reading The Three Body Problem last year and loving it, then reading The Dark Forest this year and liking it even more, I wanted to make a little list of recommendations for books which are similar in themes, tone, and plot.

It’s a shame that the algorithm doesn’t like mixed-genre creators. I personally love the variety and I have to say that you are my favorite booktuber! We have very similar taste in books so I know I can trust your recommendations :)

That's very kind of you. I mostly do this for fun and to meet interesting people who I share a common interest with. I could chase the algorithm, but it wouldn't be half as fun. Thanks again for commenting and for you to say I'm your favourite booktuber??? That's mind blowing to me. You made my day haha.

By far my favorite booktuber - I love this! Also, I don't think I've mentioned this before but I love your background. So simple and, in a weird way, calming. Onwards!

Currently reading The Redemtion of Time. I have Seveneves and Children of Time on my TBR but just added a few more. Great books recommendation.

I loved Liu's Three Body Problem. I subscribe to an Asian streaming service that shows Korean and Chinese dramas with subtitles and the Chinese version of Three Body Problem is 31 episodes long vs the 8 on Netflix. It aired in 2023 and follows the book very closely. I found the Netflix show got a bit lost trying to explain the physics. Love Tchaikovsky, both his sci-fi and fantasy. Simmon's Hyperion is a classic, although I did not love the rest in the series.

@@PaperbackJourneys it occurred to me that the first 3 books of the Bobiverse could’ve been on the list. Granted they’re a lot lighter, but there’s still some hard sci-Fi in there. After the first one, themes like a distant alien threat and factions of humanity that believe we should be wiped out also come into it. Those are really similar to The Three Body Problem.

Another banger video. And I agree on the whole the Netflix series did a good job! For fans of the show which tackles hard sci-fi but focuses on conveying the ideas in more of a soft sci-fi/character focused way I recommend Recursion by Blake Crouch. It isn’t a first contact book but it does does heavily focus on the real world consequences of certain technologies advancing perhaps too far… (vibes wise I’d say it’s between The Three Body Problem and the First Law)

Between... three body problem and... First Law!!!? Wera!! What are you doing to me mate. You know these are two of my all time favourites!! Okay that's getting bumped up the TBR list. I've gotta read Dark Matter first though.

@@PaperbackJourneys just not AS dark *** also if u don't like Dark Matter pls don't give up on Recursion bc Dark Matter imo was fine(?) but NOTHING like Recursion

Great list! Children of Time was the first book to really scratch the same Itch as the Three Body Problem series for me, truly a phenomenal book. Revelation Space took me a couple of goes to get into but once I did was also just fantastic.

I can't wait to jump into Children of Time. That and the Expanse have me very excited. I'm glad you gave Revelation Space another chance. Thanks for the comment mate.

My only wish is that Netflix would give up on sci-fi and let Apple TV take over. I know it would’ve been a masterpiece of a show on Apple TV +

Great video as usual mate! Now I ain’t much of a sci-fi reader but a book in the genre that I really wanna check out is 2001: A Space Odyssey (since I am a fan of Kubrick) and if I like the sci-fi feeling, then I just might pick up some of the books you’ve recommended here :)

Awesome! Yeah Kubrick is the best kind of lunatic isn't he? Thanks so much for the comment. Is it mostly horror that you read?
@skunke2290
@skunke2290 3 месяца назад
@@PaperbackJourneys yep! Horror is my main genre but I also read a lot of fantasy and occasionally detective/spy novels. And Kubrick truly was the best kind of lunatic. I think you already know about how crazy he was during the recording of The Shining. But he made some great, timeless movies.

Loved Inherit the Stars (and the next 2 sequels were fun too). Hogan's Inherit the Stars is very much about teh science and discovery. No antagonist. Characters are fairly flat (minimal character arches) but I loved the story. I've read it 4+ times. I've read Eon too.. Great read. Most of the others are in my queue. Nice collection.

Hi, do you know how much of the Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy was filmed in the Netflix series? Only the first book or more?
@PaperbackJourneys

Hey! So there's actually part of all three books in the first season. I learned this late. You only need to read the first few chapters of Death's end though. You don't need to read the whole book.

Dark Forest, Death's End. Pandora's Star if you can get to 66%. Mike's Book Reviews didn't like Children of Time.

I read a ton of sci-fi (unfortunately I’ve read almost everything on this list) and Children of Time is pretty good. The second book is as well but the last one was a bit meh. I’d definitely recommend it if you like sci-fi.

As an avid reader, I love several genres and find myself bored by reading only one. I love science fiction, weird fiction, historical fiction, adventure, British literature, Russian literature, American literature, French literature, and crime thrillers. When I only read one genre for a while, I become bored. I like the variety of so many genres!
@PaperbackJourneys
@PaperbackJourneys 3 месяца назад
I think we're the same in that way, Marjorie. It's better to have a broad range to choose from because without that variety things can get boring. Also, if you only read in one genre, sometimes you start to predict the rhythm of that genre and nothing can surprise you.
