Here are 10 cameras under 500$ which I consider to be a good choice for a photography beginner! What I'm trying to do here is save you a lot of research time by doing the basic research for you, so that after this video, if you think to have found a camera that suits you, you can indulge into deeper research on that specific model. I hope this is in any way helpful to you!
Btw. everything said in this video is my personal opinion - I was not sponsored by anyone to say anything!

what lens are you using with it?
@benjaudon13
@benjaudon13 3 года назад
@@gaston7484 I have both of the kit lenses for the camera, but I started using vintage lenses and they work out so well. If you get the right vintage lens, the image practically glows. I'd recommend getting the "Pentax-a 50mm f2" lens, (That would be a 100mm equivalent btw).

The biggest sellng point that got my attention for the GX80-series (was looking at the GX85 specifically though) was the IBIS. This 2-lens kit is now $800 (sometimes on sale for $600) and finding a camera with 5-axis IBIS is virtually unheard of in cameras under $1000. So this is one stand-out feature that has me considering the GX85 (probably in the 2-lens kit form, as the extra telephoto lens just adds another $200 to the overall price).

Having great gear helps, but practicing your skills and having the will to take great photos will give awesome results regardless of the gear. What a great video to start the year. Afters years of using only phone to take pics, last autumn I have found on UK ebay gx80 for £280 with shutter count next to nothing(practically new camera). I absolutely love this little camera. Sure you can't get very long exposures, sensor isn't great in very low light, but for camera is light, portable and capable for it's size. I was torn between some second hand full frame dlsr and micro four thirds. In the end size and portability were bigger selling point for me. Additionally lenses are bit cheaper and it isn't huge problem to adapt vintage ones. from time to time I use canon FD on it and thinking about getting Zuiko OM adapter(bought cheaply OM10 and OM2n locally in great condition... but it's bit expensive to shoot film for me).

I choose the EM 10 ii and just love it. I managed to acquire mine just before Christmas brand new from Olympus and with the kit lens and 30 months warranty. Oh , in case you were wondering - the price of all this goodness was £350. I have used in a limited way most of the cameras on your list at one time or another and can testify how good they all are. Those without a viewfinder can be difficult to use in bright sunlight unless you can shield the screen . Bigger bodies mean bigger lenses and that may not seem a problem at first , but after along day , you may find the light camera has started to weigh on your neck. Looking at the sample images produced and you cannot find much to complain about there . Do try and feel the camera before you buy or at least be able to return it if it does not feel right. Olympus do allow you to try before you buy, which may be handy if you like there cameras. There are some great on line videos on Olympus cameras and how to set them up etc. Finally, don’t over read the views and I did this to the point I took for ever to make the purchase . Thinking back I could have kicked myself, as I ended up getting the camera I wanted when I first saw it. All those lovely images I missed on because I only had my phone is just ridiculous . Please, don’t over cook the choosing thing. Finally , it is the person who takes the image and not the camera that matters ; looking at the photos from my phone I can contest to that. This was a very slick presentation and very well put across . Thank you for sharing your thoughts .

Where did you buy it?
@carmenfissenden2530
@carmenfissenden2530 Год назад
@@daries I bought mine direct from Olympus and they shipped it to the UK from Germany . It was a fantastic offer and included a kit zoom . The only thing that was omitted was the strap . As it happens I thought the strap from my Nikon FM 2 A, which I from a old Minolta . I then acquired a Billingham Digital bag for my birthday and acquired two prime lenses as additional gifts . In short , for a few pounds I get s new kit and quite honestly I was never to get anything like this with free extended warranty off over two years . The only way to match the body only price to match the kit I bought is to look at used market . I doubt if I will need to replace my kit looking forward , as I have everything I need to produce great images . Then finally I put off getting an iMac m chip 24” set up and learnt that the upgrade should arrive later this year . This may tempt me to look at the improved product or consider a heavily discounted model .

Thank you so much Teo for this video, I find it very useful in my research for the first camera, I was very fortunate to stumble upon this your video. The researching on this topic is quite overwhelming. In your other video you mentioned that mirrorless are better in many ways than DSLR. If you will find it interesting, maybe you could make a video on this topic. Also, a question: yesterday I stumbled upon this video "Fujifilm Film Simulation Recipes that will make you stop shooting RAW" - I found it so interesting, first of all - it helps to eliminate the post production and have ready photos right out of the camera, which is a very interesting thing I think. And second of all, this ties with my other doubt about first camera to buy - what is the best affordable camera model (under 500$) that gives best results right out of the camera (basically best jpegs). 🤔 I'm actually researching what camera to get for my mom, not myself. So this is probably the most important factor really, considering all I think editing (RAW) files is not an option for her (and for many other people, parents, or even older people). And this kind of makes me look more towards Canon, since I hear from different videos and comments on RU-vid that their "color science" is best (or very good). Even though of course I don't actually know how jpegs from other cameras look, but that's what I hear, that Canon in this regard is best. This Simulation Recipes seems like such a great solution for this, plus one could change the recipes depending on the mood one wants in this or that situation. Is this only Fuji's feature? I read in comments that people chosen a Fuji camera because of this feature. Very interesting too for those who like to make their photos seem shot on film, right? Watching some of your videos if I'm not mistaken you are one of such people. I think here are 3 great video ideas. One is - about mirrorless vs DSLR. Second is - best first camera in terms of best photos without editing. Third - a whole world really of Simulation Recipes with Fuji cameras (or any other cameras that support this functionality). Hope this my comment was in some way useful to you. Thank you for your great content, I'm learning *a lot* from it.
@MaximC
@MaximC 3 года назад
Also I wonder, does this functionality only allow to simulate different film filters, or does this allow to simulate any contemporary (or digital) looks too.

The size of the MFT sensor is actually only 1/4th of the FF sensor, while the diagonal line (what corresponds to the length of the "normal" lens) IS 1/2 of the FF sensor. Just saying. And, to my knowledge, (almost) all Olympus Pen cameras, while having only the LCD, can be used with the add-on EVF, but that setup is punching thru the $500 limit... Gruß

I disagree. A phone doesn't match a camera's raw files and the ability to switch lenses is beyond what phones are capable of. Phones have become insanely good, but still if one wants to pursue photography I would recommend a dedicated camera. If the results are the same or worse it's most likely due to the photographer not the gear🙌🏼

Has my man tried to take a pic of the moon at night with his phone? Lol good luck. How about zooming in without losing a ton of quality? Again, good luck. No phone cam can do actual optical zoom because their lenses can’t move- there’s no motor. It’s all software trickery, and the results are evident upon close up inspection of the image.
