This guy is one of the best, most accurate, most informative scent comparers/describes I’ve found here on RU-vid. I reckon he smells as good as he informs us of our options!
I 100% would have included tabac but I included it in my original “barbershop” fragrance video. I was looking for stuff even less money despite tabac being cheap and amazing
Yep Kellan, PS Fine Cologne is my SOTD. I wore Azzaro pour Homme yesterday. Leaning towards Givenchy Gentleman (1974) ETD for tomorrow. I love my old classics and regularly rotate them. Seasons, day/night, weather are all irrelevant to me. I just wear what I love. :-)
I’m not the biggest barbershop fan, but Lomani Pour Homme is my go-to. Great for wearing on a cooler night, especially after I shave. My friend started wearing it, soon all his employees started wearing it too, and now he’s wearing Lomani El Paso.
Ahh I can’t get down with Bogart pour Homme, I thought I liked it initially but it’s so sweet, Bogart signature however is fantastic and an absolute classic ! Thank you for watching and commenting Karl!
Thank you for reviewing Aqua di Pino. I recently found a CREMO fragrance called distillers blend no.13 and it is not bad at all. The body wash smells amazing. So i bought the cologne . But the cologne did not smell quite the same as the body wash, but it is still pretty good, but it requires 20 sprays.
I have one cremo scent the original one blue cedar & cypress. It’s good but I never bought another one they seemed sorta blandness thank you for watching Tim
Distiller's blend no. 13 is a fantastic masculine scent, I have the body wash and it dries out my skin but absolutely destroys odors. I'm saving it for a romantic wear 😄
My top 5 cheap barbershop style colognes: Preferred Stock, Stetson, English Leather, Bogart, Drakkar Noir. I really gotta try a few of these on this list, but buying and trying cheap scents adds up quick! Think I've narrowed it down to acqua di pino or canoe as they're both cheap and fresh, with spring and summer coming up they seem like great choices.
Interesting about the longevity of the Acqua di Pino Cologne ... I just got Salvatore Ferragamo Colonia ... doesn't last too long ... neither does Acqua di Parma Colonia to my understanding. Also LOVE LOVE LOVE Royal Copenhagen Musk.
I wore “Wild Country” when I was a young teen back in the early ‘70s. Avon made another I also used to wear back then called “Öland”. And another called “Trouble”. But as I matured into an intelligent, all-wise, high-schooler and then college student in the late ‘70s, I narrowed it all down to one single after-shave/cologne that became my signature scent: JOVAN “MUSK OIL”. I had more girls complimenting me on that than any of the others I had worn before. So that’s the only one I wore for years thereafter. I still keep some around for special occasions.
I almost had that in this list but since I made an individual review on that scent a few weeks back I decided to cover other scents. 1-12 is so good and absolutely barbershop to the core
Cool list. If you wanna go no holds barred with cheap barbershop clones.....Le Male type fragrances English Laundry Signature, Cuba Gold are Le Male type powdery barbershop.....also at Walmart, Belcam Classic Match Obsession and Drakkar are nice barbershop frags at like $7.99....well worth it. You put me on to Lomani...its awesome, but I don't understand how you could not like Preferred Stock, and like Lomani.
Idk I just was not crazy about preferred stock it just seemed bland and not distinct. Drakkar noir and Lomani pour Homme both have their own identity, preferred stock was just nothing special lol hope you are well dude ! Thank you for stopping by !
@Jay The Tester he was referring to a very inexpensive clone of Drakkar noir from a company called “Belcam.” In the USA Drakkar noir ranges from 25-50$ depending on the bottle size
Fun fact, Junior Soprano wore Canoe in the series. Open Black is great, but to me personally maybe not a quintessential _barbershop_ scent. I'd change it for Tabac in this specific list!
Jr wore it because Johnny wore it lol great scene in the retirement home with Livia. In my first barbershop fragrance list I made last year I featured tabac, it’s a great scent. Thank you for watching and commenting sir!
The autumn a superb time of the year to walk out in the brisk and fresh morning air wearing a fougere. 🍁Nothing quite like it. Don't forget Brut Original edt!
It is "Canoo," like the Native American watercraft. Their ads of many years played on it: "Do you Canoe? Can you Canoe in an Igloo?," etc. The labeling used to include nautical signal flags.
I loved this show! Some of these brought back memories for sure. I remember Royal Copenhagen. Didn’t know it wa still around. Mr Scents of So Jersey have you ever reviewed the original Perry Ellis for Men? This one goes way back…maybe 1985 or 1986? It had a very distinctive smell…can’t put it into words. I love the old classics that are also cheap. I just bought a bottle of Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui.
Love the original Perry Ellis by Perry Ellis, I plan to re-review that this fall. That’s a scent my dad introduced me to a while back. Thank you for watching and commenting sir!
Just found the channel and it has to be noted: most people in south jersey dont have Patrick Bateman looking skincare. As a now central jersey transplant from Camden County his actual look is more like here, but his voice is 100% SJ. Most of SJ are bearded long hairs like myself or boomers.
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey I think that's how I may have come up on your channel in the first place. Either you commented on something of Ike's, or it was your Drakkar review. If you ever get short for video ideas, you might want to do one about the top 5 or 10 that your girlfriend prefers from your collection. She doesn't have to be in it if she's camera shy... even you just sharing her thoughts on classic men's stuff would be interesting to know.
I will go to my grave saying Open Black is the best bang for your buck fragrance out there. I'm about 3/4 way through my 1st bottle and have 5 backup bottles because this is one I never want to go without.
Just got Royal Copenhagen and Lomani from this video Lomani is very very Brut like. Very clean. Very axe body spray like but in a good way Royal Copenhagen musk. Idk. I don’t love it. In the bottle smells good. But on skin it smells like Baby wipe type clean.
Great list. Btw I just smelled open and loved it. I'm going to buy it ..I'm going to try open black now too. Try English leather black sometime. It's funny because it came out in 2007 but smells like an 80s power house. It's actually discontinued but you can still get it for like 14$ online. I'd really like to hear your thoughts in it sometime. You'll be surprised. Great list as always btw
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey it's strong it's way more refined than regular English leather. Its strong like Lapidus or polo or something, but does not smell like those. It's woody with leather spicy musky . Can't fathom that it came out in 2007. Smells 80s and super manly and strong. It's discontinued but shockingly still only like 14-18 bucks on Amazon and stuff. It's a great blind buy at that price because worst case you're out less than 20 bucks. Lol. Dose not smell cheap like a 20$ Fragrance at all. A gem like open. Never smelled open black but it kind of reminds me of the same scenario..it's a modern flanker of something older but smells strong 80s. Also with the name black. Lol.
A lot of these are staples in my rotation. I can't do PS in the summer at all just because it's so damn humid in Ohio. But man once it gets cool out... I already wore it this last week and was so stoked! And I haven't smelled Canoe since the early 90's. I don't even remember it. Gonna grab one! And as much as you love Open Black, I'm curious if you'd like Patrick of Ireland. It's like if you took Open Black and Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, and made it a bit more gentle. Less sharp. At this point when I get in that mood, I tend to go for Patrick more than the other two.
Lomani is amazing, but they just axed it. Can’t believe another one of my favourites was discontinued. I wish they would just raise the price a bit or sell it online only instead of deleting it from existence.
I got my original brut in the green bottle today.. wondering why its not like the deoderant, smells a bit minty like toothpaste, perhaps deoderants smell better than colognes, im just gonna spray more deoderant cause when i say brut is the best.. im definitely not talking about these colognes, try the deoderant man its prime
Big k, great frickin list big man. Little late to the party on this one. But hope all is well and have a good Halloween 🎃 I’m def adding canoe to cart now
$2 or $3 for cologne. Man, that is cheap. 😂that Copenhagen splash last a VERY LONG time on my skin. I smelled a old lady with something that smelled just like Open Black. That caused me to stop wearing it. Great video.
Not all of these are fougeres. PS Fine Cologne, for example, is probably more of a musky Spicy Amber, like a fuller, richer, muskier analogue to the classic Old Spice. And the classic Old Spice is known as the first Spicy Oriental marketed to men. PS Fine Cologne is certainly barbershop though.
still looking for something like lomani pour homme, thats my favourite fragrance and its like the cheapest fragrance there is lol but i feel like there must be a better version, im wearing drakkar now but its not as fresh and uplifting as lomani, still awesome.. but surely theres gotta be more that are just like lomani but maybe even better? just ordered the cuba black after watching this lol
I absolutely love Paul Sebastian PS Fine Cologne. I can't find a body wash/soap or deodorant of it though. If you can point me in the right direction for either of those, that would be awesome and very appreciated.
Hi Kelan new subscriber here. Recently purchased Boucheron Pour Homme relatively cheap which I enjoy very much. Could you please recommend something with a similar profile that won't brake the bank? Thanks and enjoy your channel!
Anyone else think Royal Copenhagan Musk smells like Abercrombie Fierce? I read an interview by the perfumer and he said when developing Fierce, he was trying to put a modern twist on some old school aftershaves.
Really? Wow then maybe that's the fragrance my father wore that I've been searching for my whole life! My father wore a fragrance that smelled like A&F fierce but I've never been able to find it.
Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is arguably one of the greatest barbershop style fragrances of all time how could you not love that one lol. There are some loved classics that I hate too so I do get it to an extent
I got the new brut original cologne OMG WTF 😂 straight in the bin where it belongs, was like a prank.. i hope the one in the green bottle is legit cause that shit smelt like chammomile how did they mess that up so bad, made me appreciate nautica voyage
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey is that the one in the kinda square bottle? Thats the worst lol seems there losing the sauce, i had to get a new brut original deoderant today and theyve reformulated it because they found benzene in it and they brought out a whole line of terrible deoderants, the new original spray doesnt have the syncronicity that the old one did that made the old 1 perfect to me but its still very very similar, alot closer than the colognes, very disappointed with the colognes i thought the green bottle with the chain would be perfect but its kinda minty
