Pixo will get you better spec for similar money. Top spec SZ4 Altos with fog lights and painted door handles are pretty rare. It's the same car with a different bumper so I don't there is any 0‐60 difference. The common problem with these is the air bag warning light caused by faulty wiring loom in the steering column. Why it was never a recal I dunno, their more expensive models had the same problem and were recalled.
The Mini Hatch has a fair few more problems with the Peugeot-sourced engines. I used to work for Peugeot and these Prince engines were not uncommon for dephaser problems, misfires, stretching timing chains, and worst, burning about 200ml of engine oil every 1000 miles. This was caused by the shallow piston heads vibrating inside the cylinders and wearing down the cylinder walls, allowing oil to pass. For whatever reason the Mini seems less common, but the issues are certainly still there. Can't argue with the fuel economy though! The water leak issue mentioned with the 107 is almost always the rubber seal on the rear high-level brake light, allowing water into the boot, which then runs forwards into the footwells, a very easy fix.
Totally agree. I own a cooper s and it’s the same story. I bought an r53 purely because I didn’t want the n14 engine in the r56 however they did make some improvements with the n18 engine that came in after
I think we need to take a second to say “Yo JB, you put in mad work and research for these vids and it’s very much appreciated” Smashed 100k now and that’s clearly for a reason! Big up man! Peace
@@-Burts30 Credit where credits due! I look at cars all day everyday so the depth that JB goes to is crazy! Then to get it all down in a video must take bare effort! 200k will come 10 times quicker than 100k! Whatever you want in life you gotta grind for! Peace ✌🏽
Great stuff as usual! with the weather we’ve had would be good to see a top 5 video on cars with great economy and comfort (seats, reliable air-con etc) lol
I've got a vw polo 9n3 bluemotion 2007. 5 speed manual. Fuel economy is insane. Went from Dysart in Scotland to Poole, Dorset on just over half a tank 😜 700+ mile range 👌
Great video JB, I bought for £400 a clio II 1.5 dci with 120k on the clock initialy as quick disposable second car, but Its so cheap to run and mantain (30£ tax, 60 mpg), plus its care free being a worthless shitbox that 15 months/10k miles later I still have it, and as it just passed its MOT once again I think I'll have it for at least another year...
Learn to drive economically first. Got 76mpg from my previous tank in my 2012 1L petrol Aygo. 95,000 miles on the clock but it's been well looked after since I've owned it from when it had 10,000 miles on the clock. My mechanic lent me his 1.2L Micra during my MOT... Reset the MPG meter that said 25mpg and when I returned it it said 65mpg. Was quite impressed as the engine felt allot more powerful then my Aygo.
@@ExecutionerHopkins I usually accelerate at 75% engine load around 2,000-2,500 rpm and use engine braking for a reasonably slow coast down in gear when I need to slow for speed limit changes or junctions. Also when on flat ground I shift up to the highest gear possible, at 30mph in 5th around 1,200rpm it floats around 85-105mpg. The Argos got VVT-i so it's reasonable smooth and efficient over a wide rev range.
My cheapest car was my first car. In 1973 I paid £40 for a Ford Anglia. It lasted a couple of years but needed a new clutch and a bit of welding done. Cars were rust buckets back in the day.
Will be driving a Peugeot 107 soon. Can achieve over 60mpg from it from its 1 litre engine plus £0 road tax. The allure spec has factory rear tints, AC, alloys and a few other nice touches which makes it look like a nice car.
@@Optimusprime809 yeah had the first shape 107 as my first car 7 years ago. Currently driving around in a Citroen C1 VTR which I will sell. I previous had a Mk6 fiesta zetec S but sadly had to sell it due to stupid ULEZ. We have a 2014 107 allure my dad bought for my sister last year. She hit it on her first day driving it then didn't use it since so will upgrade to that. Me and dad uprated the sound system in it with a stereo, better speakers in the doors and custom fitted speakers in the rear doors. Fitted lights in the boot with LED lights all around the exterior. Gave it a proper clean after we fixed it up and forgotten how nice it looks in black with the tinted rear windows and 5 spoke alloys all clean
@@voxy8669 I've heard a few people having issues with there's but very likely it may be lemons. The Citroen C1 I currently have I could tell it hadn't had a good life but after fixing it and servicing it it's all good
@@zaink7037 The C1 VTR was a car I was pretty heavily considering as my first car, but ended up going for the 107 after netting a good deal. 107s just look good in black! Dang, I want to see a video of your 107, sounds as if it's had a lot of care put into it, and must look pretty good!
Cheapest car I bought was my nb mx5 which I bought a year ago for 1.5k. Had to pay a premium because I was late to the party but it has served me well and hasn't had any mechanical issues, although I'm expecting some big rust bills down the line
The cheapest was a 86' Ford Tempo for $500 I drove it a year & sold it for $600. My 2nd cheapest car was a 1972 Chevy Chevelle w/ less than 100k on it for $900
I bought a 2012 K A in 2015 for £7000 thought I was doing the right thing at the time , it had only done 1, 500 miles , I'd had it serviced at the correct intervals by a Ford dealer, a month after a service I had problems with gear box oil which had a leak , lost the oil but there was no sign of it underneath the car ,ended up with a damaged gear box which cost me over £620 to get fixed , I had done 26,000 miles in it in 2 years p/xd it for a Volvo and got £3,500 in p/ x , so lost big money on it , plus you can't by law have a tow bar on them either .
I've had a couple of £100 cars. First was a 1992 Peugeot 106 1.1 that had 12 months mot and 6 months tax (back when you could sell a car with tax) and I couldn't believe how I got it so cheap.... turned out someone had bypassed the heater matrix and in winter it would freeze on the inside 😂 the other was a Rover 214si that I ended up taking on a track day
Cheapest and arguably best car that can be purchased in 2022, my £450 Mk1 Skoda Fabia Estate in Elegance spec with the 1.9TDI PD100 engine. Heated seats, sunroof, parking sensors and towbar. All of that combined with 60mpg, whats better than that.
2:24 my mate has this exact car and same engine and power level. He actually doesn’t get that good fuel economy and he doesn’t drive badly. It’s had a few issues too
Who thinks he should do a series on this increasing at thousand a time please do these types of vids more as they help everyone at these times of crazy fuel prices keep up the good work !!!
The 2nd cheapest car i ever owned was an Elise 111R. Bought it at 3 years old. It got written off 10 years later. I got all of my initial outlay back minus £2000. So that worked out at £200 per year to own a Lotus (ignoring insurance costs which weren't too bad). Cheapest car so far is an old smart forfour Brabus I bought last year. The insurance wrote it off due to a slightly broken rear bumper. The net cost of buying the car is zero ££. Fuel costs are quite low, as with the Elise, because it is a lightweight car.
Nissan pixo is a very reliable car but as you pointed out along with the Alto, interior is offensive bordering criminal. The one car you missed out which I think is a better motor and deal overall is the Subaru Justy. That will outlast any in your list. Additionally although you currently might not get one under 2k is the Mitsubishi Colt would be at no1 with the Subaru. Anything over your price is the Honda jazz
What about a video on cheap surprisingly fast 4x4s? There's no other video like that on RU-vid, you could also do one on surprisingly fast vans, both these vids would be good for us people who are petrol heads but need a 4x4 or van for work 🤔. P.s. the cheapest car I bought was a £700 2004 fiat punto 1.2 8v as my first car, as slow as a week in the jail but a good little runner
Can't believe the Seat is £135 a year to tax , I have the Up tsi which is only £20 a year . Same car just about so why is it sooo expensive to tax ? , don't get it . Loving these vids , my daughter is going to be driving soon . Very helpful , cheers . 👊
I have been given 2 cars for free, long time Ago..Saab 99, year 1978 passed MOT whitout problem. And a BMW 528 1980 isch. Cheapest was Opel (vauxhall) Ascona 1985 for 22 pounds, yes it worked😊 This was about 1998-2002 isch year
My cheapest car was a £200 Ford Fiesta 2002, 257,400 miles on the dash. Good car only had 4 months, insurance company were charging me 4K to insure it… I said no and eventually got caught with no insurance, young and dumb 😂
@@BlackLines wow I’m not the only one 😂😂 yeah those 6 points really reallly got me. Imagine I was 11 days away from having my license for 2 years 😂 so it got revoked. Hope my child don’t make the same mistakes it will be hard to keep a straight face.
I once bought a mini for £15. I ran it for a fortnight and it broke down. So I scrapped it and got £12 for it. I didn’t even have to put petrol in it 😂
Cars that are under 70bhp dont have to pay rd tax, i have a c1 and road tax is free so im surprised the Peugeot is literally the same car but you have to pay rd tax.
Bit worried about the level of research on these videos, for example "Skoda Citigo road tax £165 a year ? Skoda Citigo car road tax prices - cheapest to most expensive (changed after 2017 agreed) Engine or Model range Tax Band Cost per Year 1.0 MPI 60PS Stop-Start Band A £0.00 /year 1.0 MPI 75PS Stop-Start Band A £0.00 /year 1.0 MPI 60PS Band B £20 /year 1.0 MPI 75PS ASG Band B £20 /year 1.0 MPI 60PS ASG Band B £20 /year Also our Hyundai 1,2 I10 mpg ? £20 road tax agreed but 50 mpg on steady run, can only be bettered to 54 if ? you drive @ 40-50 mph. 1.0 same mpg. Used these in Spain for years 60mpg +, no way,
i need help, i’m about to turn 17 and i’m going to buy a VXR 2015 model. how can i get cheap insurance , if getting quotes for like 7k which is ridiculous
Mate, you put in some feministic cars right here. Like there are so many better cars that have very low fuel consumption. Like the audi a4 3.0 v6 tdi with 233hp and does 245kmh. Or a Volvo xc70 awd with 2.4D. There are so many better cars with low fuel consumption. Put in next time some sports cars or something.
My cheapest car was a Renault Clio at £780, within 5 months of ownership, I had to replace the throttle body twice, went to an Alfa Romeo MiTo 105 QV Line, before my current car, Seat Ibiza Fr Sport 115 manual
Cheapest car I bought was a 1998 Fiat Punto S 60 which cost me £1500 in 2005. The best thing I can say about it is that it was green. Had some good times with it though, until I crashed it. I test drove some "cheap" replacements for the porker recently. The S4 and 540i drove like boats, not fun. The i30n and 308 GTi were both a lot of fun though, with the 308 probably edging it since that engine is a beast and it sounds much nicer inside (worse outside but I won't be outside so who cares). I'm 50/50 on swapping this year, even though fuel is more expensive than beer in some places... You mentioned Citigo part sharing- I've said it before but that includes sharing a headlight switch with the entire Porsche range of that era, including mine and the 918 😄
I feel like there’s a lot of animosity towards your old Punto! Green makes it clear of many other first cars if you ask me 👀 I’d keep the Porsche just for the values - I feel like if any brand can hold its value it’s Porsche! Lol I really need to do a second video on cars sharing parts - that’s so ridiculous 😅
@@CarsWithJB That Punto was a car I loved, until it broke 4 times in a year- then I drove other cars and realised how much better they were to drive too! I drove a 308 GTi yesterday. Tempted...it's not as good as the porker but costs half what I'd be selling for while still being more fun than the Civic. i30N was close, but not worth £6k more. I'm probably going to switch in the next 6 weeks so if you want a go in the Porsche now's the time! 😄
£110 for a 1975 Escort mark2 Ghia with Weber carbs, broken rear leaf springs and rust all over, bought in 1988 when I turned 18. Probably worth 19 million quid in today's market!😂
Had my Honda Civic 2.2ctdi for a year now and it manages to do 49mpg so happy with it as a second car defo an underrated car for fuel economy and also can find them pretty cheap!
Yep, not to mention 138bhp also. Highly reputable make, futuristic edgy looks, low road tax, cheap to buy, cheap to fix, cheap to insure, fantastic fuel economy considering the power, fast, back seats that fold completely flat so perfect for moving stuff and camping/sleeping in even lol if you need to.
I wouldn’t say they’re exactly cheap to fix. Had my type s gt for 3 years and recently had a new clutch and flywheel at a cost of £900. If you can ensure that’s done before purchase then you’d be dodging a bullet. Excellent car overall though.
my brother paid 70 quid for a mk2 phase 1 clio, lasted 6 months and the only thing he changed on it was a coil pack. know someone that has an alto and they seem alright, not for me though
I bought a brown Mk3 Cortina for £15, the guy just couldn't sell it. Gave him a £5 note and ten pound coins I'd won from the fruit machine in the pub. It drove fine too 😂
The fiat GP is a fun car especially the 1.4 t jet which goes well enough and they are easy to work on with parts being very cheap. The mini is shit though! The Skoda city go thing costs the same to tax as my XC60! Lol
I written off my car and brought a £500 2002 Honda Civic til I find a car that I liked and my god was good all rounder despite it’s ugly and few scratches & dents.
@@CarsWithJB meh, so close , holiday in Ibiza and still watching Ur content soon as it's out 😝. Had a polo 9n for first year years , now have 13 plate Clio expression .9 litre and loving it, looking to upgrade again next year, and keep informed from your hard work, many thanks dude 👍
