Thank you for this video. My daughter started out loving insects and now has expanded to spiders. She's been telling me she wants a pet tarantula so I told her when she's older (currently 5), but I'm kind of clueless
Mine would be 1. GBB 2. GBB 3. GBB 4. Every Grammostola 5. Every Brachypelma 6. A Chalcodes 7. C Darlingi 8. M Balfouri 9. Caribena Versicolor 10. P Metallica I'm sorry, I'm a GBB fanboy :3
Kat's channel is the one that got me into the hobby... and i dove head first into it.. i think i have... 14?T's now(all slings tho){and some are still about to be shipped this week} accumulated in over a couple months time...and i have Kat to thank for generating this new interest for me and now i have a new hobby!
I wanted a brachypelma because I heard they were relatively chill. Found a beautiful one! Read up on it and find out the one I picked out and liked is the most defensive brachypelma 😂 still decided to go with it and now I’ve had my boehmei for 3 days and I absolutely adore my tiny sling. My very first was a grammostola pulchripes and he was literally so so chill and sweet but they are harder to find now
Great video! I totally agree with this list. I've owned all of these species and are all definitely must-haves! I currently have two on this list, plus a close relative of the rose-hair, a chaco (given to me by the RU-vidr Exoticslair). My P. metallica female just gave birth a couple weeks ago, and I hope to establish a colony: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zAvukEcTOFw.html
I remember when he got you the G pulchripes, he loves those d: I actually just paired my G pulchripes in February :) Congrats on the P metallica babies 😯
Tarantula Kat: P. Matallica is something that probably brings a lot of peaple into keeping tarantulas. Me: I'm not sure about that. But - The P Metallica and GBB is why I kept watching videos like this, and they actually make me want to have a few tarantella.
I wouldn't put any old world species on a list of must-haves. Pokies are beautiful, but they're fast and their venom is really strong. I don't intend to have an old world T ever in my life.
@@tarantulakat Didn't think about that. They are amazing. Most of them are super docile. Mine is named Novia because she is so calm. She was the perfect T for my first tarantula.
hello I discovered you on youtube, you have very high quality content and I really love what you do, thanks to you I am feeding or trying to feed exotic animals, but I do not understand English
A seemanni for the win! Was my first t and is like a little bulldozer, moving substrate around constantly. As for other "staples" to any collection I also might add G pulchra. I'm getting my first one tomorrow and besides being big and a gorgeous velvety black I've heard that most are pretty easy-going and easy to care for, tho they can be pretty pricey. Thanks Kat for continuing with interesting, quality content and hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!
Greetings you fabulous Earthlings and Happy Monday!! 👋👽I bring coronavirus-free pizza to all you friendly Earthlings 🍕Don't mind me, just cruising by:::::::::::::::::🛸
The P. metallica are good. As in A+ good when still juveniles or sub-adults. My only problem with them is they tend to darken up as they age and won't be showing much of those beautiful blues colors anymore.
Thaz quite unfair:(((, My Vagans ain’t moody, Mine behaves like an old world 24/7, bolting, and threat postures EVERYTIME i try to do something to help her 😂
I can't believe I don't have a GBB after all these years. you should have included Chaco golden knee, G. pulchripes, but you nailed it on your list of iconic tarantulas
When you reached number ten i was like: oh haha actually the P. metallica was my first Tarantula and when i rehoused her i was trying to handle her. 😅😅
Just got my 8th tarantula. I now have 1 A. chalcodes, 1 Avic avic M6 metallica, 1 T. albopilosum, 2 A. seemanni, 1 B. hamorii, 1 B. boehmei, and 1 G. pulchra. I'm thinking of getting a G. uatuman.
@panfriedd I would love the Stromatopelma calcaetum. I'm more of a fan of the African tarantulas. But I am planning on getting an M. balfouri and/or a H. pulchripes.
My Top 10 (have or had all of them in the past 20 years) 1-Crawshayi 2-Murinus Red 3-LeBlondi 4-Seemani 5-Regalis 6-A. Versicolor 7-Brocklehursti 8-Albopilosum 9-A. metallica 10-Brachypelam Vagans
Not a fan of LP. I have P. Cautus (dominican purple), T. Ockerti and T. Lagunas for my bird eaters. Pretty sure my T. sp. Cusco is a bird eater as well.
I have Tlitocatl Albopilosus Grammastola Pulchripes Brachypelma Hamorii GBB and a Nhandu Tripepii will be shipped next week. My GBB is a sub-adult, the others are juveniles. The curly hair molted two weeks ago and is now a small juvi. The G.. Pulchripes molted two days ago and it's almost as large as the GBB. 8D My GBB is a real sweetheart. She's curious and comes looking as soon as I open the lid for maintenance or feeding. She's never kicked a hair so far and when spooked, she simply retreats to the back of her enclosure, hiding behind the cork bark. XD I plan on getting next year: Aphonopelma chalcodes (Arizona blond), Acanthoscurria geniculata, a Grammastola Pulchra and a Caribena Versicolor. The year after, I'm going to start a M. balfouri communal with 5 slings. And my last addition will be a Poecilotheria rufilata.
My Ts are so different from yours! They indeed have personalitys. XD My Hamorii kicks hair like nuts, I need only look at her funny, haha. My albo is super skittish and bolt all the time. But my GBB never kicks hair or bolt, almost doesnt move, even when Im in her enclosure, she is the most docile T I know.
Hi, Just found this video. I am surprised that I have never seen this one. U said u never seen a brown Seemanni? I actually have one. I am the one with the Curly Hair T. Albo sling, lol. He's doing good, btw. My Seemanni I consider a rescue without realizing it, and I am glad I bought her. I got her from a local expo along with a juvie avic avic. I had originally thought my Seemanni was a Pulchripes which is what I actually wanted. I found out later on in a Facebook groups that she was a Seemanni. The reason she's a rescue is cuz she was so badly dehydrated and starving where she looked like she had no butt. Thankfully, she's doing excellent and eats and drinks very well. Still trying to fully plump her up yet. She's so gorgeous. When she don't wanna eat, she actually pushes me away, lol.
Its so funny how expensive tarantulas are there in the US, in Poland curlyhairs go for $3 a sling, adult females can be found for like $30-40, hamoriis are pretty much the same (smithi however is a bit more expensive) well generally speaking Ts are like 2-3 times cheaper here xD
@@philtrevis Education is key. I did *not* like spiders, tbh I still don't like most araneomorphs ("true" spiders), but after watching a lot of videos (Exoticslair, Dark Den, Kat, etc.), I learned a lot and decided to get one. Plus a freebie. Then I got three more. Then one more. And I've got an order of like 4-6 tarantulas pending now. I can't stop. Please help me. Basically do what the radio does. Don't like a song? Wait until you've heard it 36 times. Same difference.
Green Bottle Blue is my first Tarantula and every video I watched everyone talked about them kicking hairs like crazy. Mines about 3-4" and hasn't kicked hairs or thrown a threat posture at me once so far. Did I just get lucky?
Not a bad beginner list, I would have considered added Psuedoclamoris or Psalmopoeus sp on the intermediate end, def easier than P. metallica Nice to see LP on your list but I would have added G. pulchripes :(
I am more or less new to this hobby and I think that I am much older than most of your viewers so I tend to use common names I can remember ... I say more or less because around 35 years ago I had an adult Mexican Red Knee for about 3 years.. given to me by a brother who had her for a number of years ... she was a wonderful pet and I probably handled her far more than you would... but never had a problem.. (if she did not want to be handled she let me know and I was fine with that).. but then I did not have Kat to guide me as I do now..!!! I am now wanting to get back into a few Ts ... I have ordered a juvenile Curly Hair from a local pet store where a couple of clerks are T people... I am also wanting to get another Red Knee online in a week or two (stimulus money helping the economy you know!).. then I am fascinated by the Arizona Blond... do you have any of those Kat??? What do you think of them??.. Oh and by the way ..love your videos and your "tattoos".. Blessed Be
The striped knee. I agree to your experience with them, as far as them bolting from handling lol mine is so sketch & jets!! So I just observe & appreciate lol Is that a real person in the background 😂 jk
My T. Albo is a hair kicking demon if I even look st him wrong, move the enclosure, take the lid off, ect. (unsexed juvi), My avic avic is super shy and wont eat if i spook it, my c versi is bolty, and my seemanni is a bolty pet hole. All of mine are butts.
I am scared to death of spiders but I enjoy watching your channel and learning more about them. I have decided next time I find one in my apartment, I will call you to come save me! (I live in Québec, hehe) We rarely see you handling your spiders... do you do it at all? Have you ever been bit?
(Sorry going to used common names) My first tarantula was a pumpkin patch, the second was a Mexican red rump (mine had a temper before he matured), third a Trinidad Chevron, forth is still a sling salmon pink bird eater, and fifth hasn't been ordered yet but soon and it'll be a Sri Lanka ornamental
What about A. Geniculata? I feel that's number one to have. Grows more or less fast, grows big, biggest appetite ever, very active, easy to keep. I kinda thought they are a must-have. Haven't seen any tarantula hunt prey as well as this one (mine is a juvenile now but I don't even manage to put a cockroach in her enclosure - she jumps at my tongs and takes it), also quite a designer, always carries substrate somewhere to create a completely different set-up from the one I made. Stays in the open the majority of time.
It's interesting watching these older videos seeing how brighter and more "colorful" things were to now being more darker and gothy 🤣 I love it! I'm also thinking of getting a GBB or a Mexican Flame Knee for my 1st T 🤔. I can't really decide! I'm getting it from Jamiestarantulas and those were in the recommended for beginners though they sell all kinds plus enclosures and stuff!
Hey Kat funny you should mention the GBB being hair kickers for no reason, I have the Notorious E. Marinus Im not even allowed to clean her glass she's not a hair flicker but she's great for a threat pose and infamous for a slap she won't bite but has no problem slapping me with her front legs lol love this video so well done been waiting to see this episode ❤🌹
I think I have had 6 of the 10 you mentioned! When you just kept naming the ones I've had, I was thinking you had been reading the post I made on one of your other videos a few minutes ago. LOL I was going to get one of the Orange Baboon Tarantulas, but after the pet store owner opened the lid and it got into the strike pose, I said, uh, no thanks! Pleas don't use that computer generated voice. You have a nice voice, so use that for telling the names of the Tarantulas.
My 4x G. Porteri slings to adult forces me to Handel them when I do maintenance and feeding they shoot out onto the same spot on my hand and just sit there. I am apparently a spider magnet e.g go on Holiday and i get chased be a wolf spider, leaving the room i find a scorpion indoors so I decided to stop running away from them and i now have spiders delivered to my door lol. I now love tarantulas I only have 32 I have all the tarantulas on your list apart from the OBT they are Illegal to keep in South Africa. The d. pentaloris was my first tarantula but it loves the hide i provided comes out grabs it's food and shoot's back to the hide.
Yep my 2nd spider is the green bolty blue yes I called it this I worked on her enclosure she bolts across the room, they bolt and kick hair and food responsive she has attacks the cricket fast.
I’ve had my curly hair since June of this year. He has never kick hairs at me. I’d like to make it very clear that he hates me lol. However he has like hit the ground. He’s kind of a sassy boy. He loves to borrow. I rarely see him. I’ve given him about 5 inches of substrate since he loves the borrow.
I have 20 tarantulas. I have number 1 through number 8 on your list. Number 9 and number 10 are on my wishlist but as I limit myself to 20 they will have to wait until I have an opening. As a general rule I do not handle my tarantulas but as we all know it can happen on occasion for one reason or another. The exception to that rule is my rose hair. I suspect it is a female and it is an adult. I consider her to be a rescue because I got her from someone that had her for a long time and got bored with her. I have had her for about two-and-a-half years and she has never once molted in my care. I always attempt to feed her last because more often than not she wants to come out and hang out for a little bit. She has never thrown a threat posture or kick hairs. She is a very sweet girl. I am not positive if she is a grammostola rosea or a grammostola porteri.
Our curly hair is a sub adult male and an absolute demon. He won't hesitate to threat pose and slap the ground or attack and bite at the feeding tongs lol. He also has that same coconut hide and he webbed up the entrance and pushed his substrate up against the webbing to make a fortress at the entrance. We check on him periodically to make sure he's okay and we make sure he has water. He's not in pre-molt...he's just very antisocial right now lol.
i was surpirsed when i found the tarantula side of youtube, ive seen brachypelma species throw threat postures. my vagans, hamorii, poeteri never threw a threat posture at me for the years ive kept them 😅 sadly there were all males….
My curly hair has a choice of 2 hides a shallow half round cork bark and a long deep burrow, and she spends most of the time sitting on the glass acting like an arboreal??
G. Pulchra was my first tarantula. I got it a little over 6 months ago and now I have 6 tarantulas :) I would definitely recommend a G. Pulchra. as a first tarantula though. They tend to be more pricey and grow incredibly slow, but i think it's worth it.
Dose anyone know where to get an E campestratus in reno nv ive looked online and everyone is sold out if anyone could help me that would be great thanks
My first T was a rose hair who I've rehomed about 6 yrs ago now. I have a bunch of different reptiles but recently I've been missing having a T so I've been binge watching different keepers on YT and last week I got a 1.5 in t. vagans!! idk why but I didn't really think there was anything other than rose hairs and old worlds?? (Which aren't my cup of tea as of right now) so when I learned about all these other species... I now have a whole list of t's I wanna get 😅 #newobsession
Hello I have Arachnophobia and I got over my fear seeing tarantula video I also have Hot Wheels spider cars and I have been terrified of spiders ever since I was little now I have overcome my fear last year
My first t was brachypelma boehmei (absolutely love himmm.) now im waiting for my tliltocatl albopilosum, p regalis sling and acanthoscurria geniculata to arrive ☺️ I TRIED to stay at one t, but... there's so many cool species, how could I possibly only keep one. I dont really see many aphonopelmas on sale in Europe :( Seemannis are probably the most common.
