Try to move up a notch. Apply for a job at a more expensive restaurant. The wage will probably be the same but the wealthier guest will tip better

As a server, when someone asks for a martini, should we ask gin or vodka?

Yes, always ask these two questions: Gin or Vodka? Lemon twist or Olives? Some guests will be very specific. I order a Dirty Gin Martini. That means that there is 1 spoon of olive water in the dry martini together with the actual olive.

The more knowledge you have, the better the service you can give the guest. It’s also good to know the day you start your own restaurant.

If your employer tells you that you have to make drinks and cocktails .. guess what .. found a bartender and a waiter in one.. exploitation to pay the one.. all the rest are just excuses.. with this logic .. to cook you know ??@@waitertheresmore

I have never been told to do both. I have out of my own free will helped out in both bar and kitchen whenever I have free time and I honestly feel a better connection with my team and the work is more varied and fun and feels less repetitive. Also as I stated before, it’s a great skill to have when you open your own restaurant.

Well done on that side yes ok...and if someone wants to open their own restaurant... But believe me I have worked in 5 and 4 star hotels that ask you if you know cocktails and coffees... so imagine having 100- 150 people and asking you to make all this... because I've seen it and done it before and it wasn't nice and easy at all. They will tell you that you have to be flexible, etc. lies!... you are clearly leaving these places! If I want to conclude is that a waiter is still a waiter if you do it yourself it's ok ..but if you "have to" then the business is taking advantage of you. And that's where you have to "greet" them.
