I was 14 years old, got the C64 at november 1984. I remember , during the whole Christmas I played endlessly Fort Apocalypse played from Cassette. It was very complex as is went deep under cavern. I was mesmerized from the coplexity and the playing atmosphere. I believe, the endless music (that is not important) playing from SID as the background music was not a compulsory of this era. In this game there was no music at all, but all the gunshots, the noises, the small things were in harmony with this game.
@@JohnDoeGaming2021 That time I had cassette tape only, and we saved the Fort Apocalypse in the school"s lab, and the program was long, and without turbo, the loading time was about 30 minutes. Unfortunately , the loading of this game stopped with loading error, because normally the program was stored 2x,and was compared byte to byte. Even if the disappointing loading error message, the "fort apocalypse" game was running flawlessly, but I kept the C64 swithed on, because I was not sure, if It would load again. I was 14 now I am 53. Almost 40 years ago it was some kind of MAGIC for me....
Definitely some of my very first ones here. Jupiter Lander, Choplifter and Fort Apocalypse. Had them all on tape. No doubt copied from a school friend. There was only a handful of games around in 82. By 1984 the C64 scene had exploded. Fabulous times for sure. I don't think I have ever come off the gaming wave ever since.
Motor Mania was a superb gane in the day. Even though you look at it with adult and modern tech eyes and it's like look at a primate use a stick for the first itme, but it is still a great reflex game (in the narrow parts and slowing for emergency vehicles). I always wished the game had expanded a bit to have something to do other than dodge objects.
I remember playing motor mania as a kid. There was a really narrow section in the game, where me and my father could only pass when driving real slow. Once I tried to do it full speed and I could pass it. My father was amazed. So many good memories.
My first game for the C64 in 1982 was a game called 'Cyclone' - still one of the funniest shoot'em'ups to this day for me (or perhaps it is just the nostalgia?). And, I had to wait for it to load from a tape cassette (before the time of speed loaders).
Not this version. This is the cartridge version which had no sprite animation and horrible sound. I think the “real” version was released one year later in ‘83
I upgraded from VIC=20 Omega Race to C=64 Omega race so that I could continue to not do my homework after upgrading to the newer computer. I loved that game!
