I'd like to add a few more: -Claws can also be combined with the wind for some weird behavior. Here's a short experimental level I made: 97H-5VT-6RG. -CarlSagan42 explains how to inject momentum into claws when jumping into them in his Kaizo Clawllege series: Y7C-S1B-30H. -I also have some pretty wild setups with claws in my remake of Getting Over It, but nobody has made it beyond 10% of the level: RWK-CLW-D5G.

Another good Idea to use the swinging claws: you can drop them from the sky by not attaching them to anything and the player needs to time his jump correctly so he jumps into the falling claw and can jump on the next platform which would be out of reach. Or you can let them drop in a way that they grab mario and drag him down a vertical level which can be used to make a level harder (there is a nice getting over it level which uses the second possibility).

I made a level called Keep To Yourself. Once you go through the starting pipe, you're greeted with an On/Off Switch, and a small box, containing a trapped 1-up Mushroom, and two claws on trails, with On/Off Switch-activated forks in the trails, keeping them in their starting positions. Once you hit the switch, the 1-up and claws will be released, beginning the mini-level. You may notice two tall Hard-Block pillars on the right side, where a Note Block lays, secretly hiding a key. You need to wait for one of the claws to pick up the 1-up and make it fall into the middle of the pillars, hitting the Note Block and releasing the key, granting you entrance through the formerly locked door, into the next mini-level. Of course, it's the same thing as the first, but you may seem to realize the claws don't actually guide the 1-up to the Note Block with the key. The Note Blocks on the ground will bounce it around, eventually landing it in the middle of the two pillars, and hitting the Note Block, giving you access to the final door. Once you go through, you'll fall, but a claw on a trail will save you. By the way, before you go through the door, hit the On/Off Switch one last time! It's a long claw trip to the final pipe, but you'll get there before time runs out... if you didn't take too long, of course. Coming out of the pipe, you land on a platform bringing you to the flagpole, and get greeted to one last "Thanks For Playing!" message before you win. I promise the mini-levels will be bigger when I'm making the sequel... Also, I'm working on a "Spidermario" level that uses claws as webs!

I have a creative way to use claws. Put 4 items that you can pick up. They can be any 4 movable items, but I will go with a POW Block, a P Switch, a Buzzy Beetle Shell, and a Non-lit Bob-omb. If you do the same, put Blocks only breakable with Bob-ombs at the start of the level, a Wall of Munchers soon after, Brick Blocks soon after that, and Chain Chomps swinging from a rail at the end of the level. Make a rail hovering over the level coming down and stopping at the Munchers, another one ending the same way at the Brick Blocks, and one ending the same way at the Chain Chomps. Put Claws on each of the rails. What the player has to do is throw the POW Block into the first claw, the P Switch into the second, and the Buzzy Beatle Shell in the third. Throw the Bob-omb into the block structure, then the POW Block Comes down so that you can throw it into the Munchers. Set of the P Switch at the Brick Blocks. And use the Buzzy Beatle Shell to deflect the Chain Chomps.

Another Tip: If you make a level where you can't jump, use swinging claws as hazards by putting them on the tracks. If you get caught, there's nothing you can do but jump off but that makes you lose.

Something you should of mentioned, if a claw is falling off a rail, it can grab you, now imagine that with a vertical climbing level, with them falling down and dragging you back down the mountain.

I combined the icicle with the claw and a spike on top so that you have to move fast you can’t stay on the claw or the icicle will fall on you and you can’t cheat because of a spike I put on top of the icicle.
