My contractor told me that now those stud blockings aren't necessary. Is it plan dependent or OSB shear wall sufficient to not need blockings?
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
A lot of contractors will tell you it's not necessary. People spend days stud straightening and planing studs down once the house is complete.. We'll spend a few hours top to bottom. It keeps things rigid, it sets us apart, most contractors WONT do it.
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
It's an extra cost, doesn't take much in material but it takes a bit of time.. It's not plan dependent, just preference.
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
Some of the blocking seen in this video was due to not having tall enough sheets. We have sheet breaks at 7' & 8' depending on which wall you're checkin' out! :)
@KoiAquaponics
@KoiAquaponics 5 лет назад
@@MattBangsWood that's good practice, it only costs a few extra bucks
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
We try to use scraps, but the way I cut my blocks makes it hard to use scraps.. So I typically steal a long stock or a couple studs.. It's good practice, keeps things solid.

Can you tell me why you never sheeted the long wall before standing? Was it to reduce the weight for standing?

What do you add to the dimensions around doors when framing? I’ve been trying to find a source I trust and I trust you. It makes sense to me to add 5/8 to each side (1/2” for trim and a small gap so the door will open and close properly) or 2 1/8” (an additional 1 1/2” for the trimmers on each side. And from top to bottom I have no clue
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
Say you have a 2'6" x 6'8" - our header size would be 35" - 2" for each side, bit of wiggle room + 3" for trimmers on both sides to adjust. Height wise depends on the FF finished flooring. Typically, we talk with the builder prior to figure this out.. but! 99% of the time we set our headers at 6'10", leaving us with 2" to play with when the doors go in.
