David, Let's examine a Tundra built in 2023 to see if the fit and finish has improved.

Amen to that. As well as the bumpers, shaky grill, axle nuts, arm rest, door handle popping off, interior door handle squeaking, seat plastic breaking. I am a Toyota fan boy and this truck killed my spirits. Lol.
@ryannelson8717
@ryannelson8717 2 года назад
@@americandude3825 the seat plastic is from people just absolutely beating the crap out of it and people just being smart enough to know if they all just band together that Toyota might fix it. I, a 210 lb, man have seat on, drug across, snapped back that seat plastic and nothing happened. I also know a person who is 302 lbs who has done the same thing, and surprise surprise, the plastic is still intact. What's this shaky grill thing, haven't seen anything about that, and mine is definitely solid? I did have a rear door window seal issue on both sides, and the center console squeaks a little, but given its shape makes sense.

I hate to say it but the Toyota Production System with Kaizen implementation was better implemented in the vehicles built in Japan and from the 80s, 90s.... It seems that Toyota vehicles built in the USA have more NVH issues and in general less meticulous attention to detail. I have had Toyota's from all of those eras and my 2006 Tundra, while the drive train has been bullet proof, the interior fit and finish, and exterior fit and finish, not so perfect. I still remember my dad's 74 Celica ST. The interior was perfectly put together and the materials were in good shape even up into the 90s. Same with my mother's 78 Corolla Lift back. I could go on and on with examples. This comment was specifically spurred from the comment, "in Japan I would have failed this..." When describing the gap inconsistency. Very interesting video!

I don’t need a truck either, but I do appreciate the room for bikes, camping, dogs and paddle boards. However, the fit and finish is a disappointment to me and I’m debating trading my 22 Tundra in for a 22 or 23 GX.

In the past I worked with fleets of identical vehicles … e.g. Cadillac XTS’, Escalades, Chevy Suburbans, Lexus ES’, MBZ S-Class’ and E-Class’ … on average 10-15 vehicles of each model and brand. Despite the vehicles supposedly should be identical, each and every vehicle were different … driving experience, steering, braking, accelerating, shocks, engine noise, power (or lack of it), rattles, fit and finish, etc. It’s amazing how these vehicles come off the assembly line using identical parts built by the same people and same manufacturing facility manage to manufacture vehicles that are all different … every single one of them. Not even two are 100% identical.

You can’t put the Toyota name on the truck and blame suppliers for parts and fit and finish David. You get all the credit or all the blame. When Toyota’s reliability and durability are held out above others’, no one says “those part suppliers they have are great”. I hope Toyota makes it right for the most-annoying issues like rattles and molding issues. Also curious how Canadian TRD Pro and US TRD Pro differ in options and why? Is it regulation or due to geographic differences that are more practical like weather etc.

Regardless Toyota or other brands when you build a brand new or 100% redesign it only makes sense that there will be issues. I have a 2015 Tundra which means they had 7 or 8 years to work the bugs and do minor improvements. One disappointment with the new double cab is it is quite a bit smaller where I have had full size people in my truck backseat no issue head or legroom. I hope the drive train proves reliable over the longterm and retains it's value like the last model. I was parked beside a 2022 platinum Tundra a few weeks ago and it did look pretty sharp in a grayish blue color. The problem with older Tundra's is they last a long time so I may not be in the market for a new truck for awhile.

I would do a comparison of the US Manufacturers popular models and see what theirs is like. My guess it would be much worse or should be. This definitely isn't good for Toyota. Maybe the Texas bosses need to clamp down on the employees?

David….the inconsistencies in production quality, leads to believe the American management of Toyota USA is more focused on getting the units out of the plant. I hope they return to ‘kaizen principles’ by the 2024 model year. I do not see these issues on the 4Runner and GX460.

You never fail to put out interesting quality videos, David. I do agree with your choice of white and the ability to be able to sell it easier if you need to but I personally like the solar octane for its uniqueness.. Nevertheless as time goes by and the little idiosincraties are eliminated the TRO Pro as well as the other Tundra models with the 3.4 liter should become as bulletproof as the 4 liter Tacoma and be hard to beat. IMO anyway

This is the first year of manufacturing this truck in Texas. Hopefully, moving forward, the quality will improve. However, I have my doubts. Japanese made vehicles seem to have a much higher build quality than American made vehicles. I work as a mechanic for Japanese made powersports vehicles and the products from Japan are always far superior in quality to the stuff we get from the US manufacturer, for the same brand. Not sure if this is the case with all makes, but with Honda and Toyota, it seems to be true.

Personally, I’m all about the Solar Octane! It really “POPS”. Too bad you can’t get the Red interior, IMO. Build quality for $70K truck is not acceptable to me. Toyota really upped the price on the redesign and top quality in assembly and parts used should reflect the TUNDRA being a premium value! I also think MPG rating is not going to be much better than outgoing V-8. Fit quality can be determined by the shift each vehicle was perhaps assembled on. Also, Primary Process Operators training and skill level as well as secondary operator abilities. Again in reference to quality/pricing, it’s shocking that Toyota is allowing vendor quality to be so unacceptable. The trim and moldings and hood parts should NEVER have left the factory. Toyota is going to have to improve their game and go back to suppliers and level-up quality. I would have to question purchasing a vehicle with defects so obvious. If those items are acceptable, then what else has been overlooked/passed as acceptable when it’s NOT Training, workforce, suppliers and following TPS need to be re-evaluated, IMO. I don’t like saying it, but I don’t see the value here….. guess I’ll continue driving my old truck.

Toyota Australia, is looking at the possibility or is going to import this vehicle from the US to Australia and convert them to right hand drive here in Australia, using another company that is already converting other US pickup trucks. Apparently a first for Toyota to have vehicles converted from left to right hand drive by another company let alone in another country.
