I had been originally thinking about a Casita type of trailer so I would have stand up room in it. After watching ALL of your video as and Mity Mouse's my thinking has changed! I am now comfortable my trailer will be a used Aliner! I will implement ALL of your ideas for the comfort in it. And I will be able to pull it with my 2011 RAV4 so I don't have to purchase another tow vehicle. The search is on!

I lost both my skylights the same way and my Avan is quite old and no one had the moulds anymore so I replaced them with Perspex and now when I’m on the road I cover both with the awning that unrolls over the top and I secure it place with some straps. Slim--Thanks for all the good tips. I admire your ingenuity as well as the high quality of your videos. I've recently purchased a Rockwood high-wall A-Frame style trailer. I'm experimenting with a variety of things to make it more comfortable. I'll be borrowing many of the ideas you have been demonstrating. Some I'll use just as you have shown them, while others give me a starting point to make and install something based on your ideas, but adapted for use in my rig. I may even shoot a few videos of my own to show how those improvements are working. I live way down here in Tucson, so I'm also planning to check out some of the camping sites in AZ and CA that you've evaluated. All the best to you--and keep up the good work!

Epic ideas that make sense. Older campers have old brittle plastic refrigerated vents, as the antique mini fan in bathroom. I have watched a lot if campers get hit by hail on u tube, and the first thing that gets broken is the crappy but light vent covers. I live in cold Maine and have a thermal cover that slams into each door and covers the windshield on outside so no ice scraping. I am taking it south as a hail deterrent, so I won't lose a windshield. Maybe a square reflected box cover one could make that could be velcrowed to roof over vents IF ONE has prior knowledge of a coming possible hail storm. Many show up at night with no warning.
@SlimPotatohead
@SlimPotatohead 6 лет назад
Hi Victoria, yes vent covers are typically very poorly designed, especially for the cold, wind and hail (hmmm...what ARE they good for?). I am actively working on a new design that will reduce or eliminate these issues. Thanks!
@khm2128
@khm2128 5 лет назад
Maybe it's the placement of the vents that's at fault. I'd put them on the sides with little refrigerator or computer fans, framed on the inside.

very thoughtful ideas. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to have the little cubby open the other way in case you want to get something while in bed? And maybe a tiny LED light inside. LED strips are a great lighting idea too and very versatile.

As always - SUPER helpful video! Quick question - do you know if there's a way to do this without drilling/mounting in the wall? I'm noticing my vent and fan don't have screws like yours and are just sealed. I'm wondering if there's a way to bungee the lid on itself using the piano hinge screws/holes only. Would love to get your thoughts.

ya know, I don't know what it is but I like the A liner's better than the flat top trailers. Maybe its the fact that water can run down the trailer instead of puddling up on top or the fact that I can reach the ceiling (for cleaning/decorating/ lighting). From what I saw on the rv world site, they tend to be cheaper compared to the other solid roof trailers (non popups)

Hi slim. I have been following your chanel for some time now. I am sure I have watched all of your very informative videos.I have recently retired from my job and treated myself to a new camper. I bought a 2018 Rockwood a122s .Although it is brand new I am already thinking about upgrades. First one will be a solar panel. My unit came pre wired for a Zamp panel. But ....after looking into it I found out that only the zamp panel works .The reason for this is that Zamp has reversed the polarity of the wiers .However I did find a you tube vidio on how to over come this problem. I enjoy your presentations and sense of humor. Ps .I am from Saskatchewan.

New to our Aliner (8 mths) and love your videos. We've got the 20 Ranger 12 and I'm constantly looking for mods. My question is about the riveting - for example, your papertowel holder. It looks like you used rivets to attach it to the side wall. Does that really work? It doesn't pull out of the 'foam' wall? Please help - thanks!

I've been watching your videos and have found them really helpful. I have an ALiner and love it. I remember seeing in one of your videos a reference to a battery that indicated how much charge it had -- but I can't find it again. I want my RV service guy to look at it -- because I want to switch out my battery to that type. Can you help me with that info...?
@SlimPotatohead
@SlimPotatohead 7 лет назад
Hi Blythe, I don't think it was my video, however there are many low priced battery monitors out there for only a few dollars. If your battery is good no need to replace, just buy a monitor. Some even plug into a cigarette lighter (google: INNOVA 3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor). I monitor from my solar panel controller, but these really look handy. Thanks!

Great work! how did you know what type of screws to get for the fasteners? It seems like they are so costly and buying any wrong ones would increase the cost significantly.
@SlimPotatohead
@SlimPotatohead 7 лет назад
Hi Jack, Thanks for the question. I believe you are referring to the D-clips for the vent bungee cords, correct? These are fastened using sheet metal screws to the metal frame of the new Camco vents I installed. I can't remember if the original Aliner vents had a plastic frame or metal. If plastic, then you may have to bolt the D-clips right through the roof if the vent frame does not have adequate support. I'll have a look next time I'm near another Aliner. Happy Camping! Slim

Greetings! Your camper looks similar to mine. I have a 2001 Expedition with dinette and a couch. My Aliner was missing the dinette cushions when I bought it and I want to make them. I am not sure how the configuration is. It looks like it might be a U-shape style, but all I see online are diner style. I have the table parts - table, pole and two cone shape metal pieces. Can you do a video of your aliner without the beds? I haven't found a video online like this. Thanks!!!

Great economical mods and I think I'll incorporate some of them into my 2013 Aliner. Have you done any modifications to the cabinet hinges to strengthen them? After some rough backcountry roads in Colorado, I've found that the cabinet hinge screws don't just get loose, they wallow out the holes in the particle board so the screws won't hold. I'm either going to through bolt the hinges with small cap nuts or install a piano hinge on all the cabinets for added strength. Thoughts?
@SlimPotatohead
@SlimPotatohead 6 лет назад
Hi John, perhaps because I Bungie them in place when I am moving I haven't had an issue, but certainly had problems with securing the entire cabinet. Through bolts sounds like the best option. Thanks! SP

? On the straps U put up top for the pots and pans and shower rod, I see that U have them riveted to the frame work for the roof. I can understand one side being that way, but the second side? How does this let the top come down? True, I don't have an Aliner~~yet, but I am looking at them for future travel.

Good question Brian. I actually lost all power after a sunny day in Arizona last year. That's when I added another battery. Usually when I sense the batteries are low after a few days boondocking I spend one day in an RV park to recharge on 110V. One day should do it. Thanks!
