Another great week with challenging exercises. I had the most problems with the Mate in 6 exercises and I was not able to visualize them to the end. I didn’t want to start with a few moves to see the next ones easier, that’s how I approached puzzles in the past. Because I cannot do it in a real game I had to give up on them. So I believe it would be better to start with Mate in 4s and after getting them internalized go for more. I like a lot the endgame examples, because following your advice of simplification helped me a lot in my games. So it is great to have examples to learn how to convert those endgames. Looking forward to week 7.

Thank you for your feedback! Regarding mates in 6, what matters is that you tried and even if you did not find them, you calculated and visualized 💪😎

I think it was the third puzzle (7:00) I started with Qd4+ Re5 (any king move leads to quick mate) then Qf4+. It still works but one of the lines is M7 rather than M6 so I just miscounted lol.

Great selection of test positions! They really test once board vision, precis calculations, and the ability choose candidate moves especially for the opponent. The found the third position very interesting. After quicly discarding 1.Rxh6+, I focused on 1.Bxh6 and quicly saw 1..gxh6 2.Rxh6+ Kg7 3.Rh7#. Here the question become: What are Black's responses to 1.Bxh6 except 1..gxh6? Since, as you said, White's threat is 2.Bg5#, The only moves for Black that doesn't allow that are 1..g6, 1..g5, 1..Nf8, and moving the rook on g8 somewhere. I immediately saw that on either 1..g6 or 1..g5 White plays 2.Bf8#, and on 1..Nf8 White plays 2.Bg5+ Nh7 3.Rxh7#, but what if the rook on g8 moves. Here my board vision faltered, because I thougt it doesn't really matter where the rook moves. I thought 1..Rd8 would be the logical move because it at least defends the bishop on d7. I first tried your variation against 1..Rf8, but it fails because instead of 4..Ng7 Black plays 4..Kf8 and White has nothing being a piece down. An improvement is 3.Rg1+ instead of 3.Rh7+, but this is only mate in the eight move. Then i found the beatiful pendulum maneuvre with the light squared bishop: 2.Bg5+ Kg8 3.Bh7+ Kh8 4.Bg6+ Kg8 5.Bf7+ Kf8 6.Rh8#. Here i stopped my calculations. But I should have considered 1..Rf8, in the beginning, as a candidate for the obvious reason that it attacks the undefended rook on f2 even though I didn't see the hidden purpose of defending the f7 square. At least I should have consider it after calculating the ..Rd8 move, because ..Rf8 is a move that should popup if you try falsify the calculation of 1..Rd8. But as you show in your solution, the drawback of 1..Rf8 is that it takes away the f8 square for the king, and the final variation is 1.Bxh6 Rf8 2.Bxg7+ Kg8 3.Rh8+ Kxg7 4.Rh7+ Kg8 5.Rg2+ Ng7 6.Rgxg7#. Nice set of problems which exposed some of my weaknesess in calculation variations. I enjoyed the video a lot. Thank you!
