A note - "Bicolline", is not a one week event. The one week event (which is tourist friendly) is our annual "Grand Battle". The game is a rich tapestry woven over the course of the year through monthly events, battles, and Tavern nights that have a player participation from 250-600... so if it seems like things are difficult to access, that is because this is a 25year old living political campaign world. We love visitors, and if you come in with a visitor's mindset you will have zero disappointment. Was a pleasure to meet you and yours, and hope that you return. -Asher
oh woops, I thought I said that about the Grand Bataille.. 😅 yes, that's true of course.. but probably for us foreigners, it's easier to just call the big Event "Bicolline" as this is what most people will probably go to. But of course, you are right 😁👍
If you ever go again, you should stop by the Fae camp. We are really hidden away, so it is easy to miss us. But we would love to have you sit by our fire, share drinks, stories, and perhaps a song or two as we're very musically inclined. Also, we promise safe passage and hospitality and we won't try to steal your soul -- at least for one evening. ;)
Wow ! I'm from Quebec and I never been to Bicolline but hearing you talk about it makes me consider it! It looks like an epic experience. Almost like being in a movie ! Thanks for that great video
Hallo Sonja! König Vince hier. The thing to remember about Bicolline is that it's more of a battlegame than a LARP. Of course Bicolline hosts events that are much closer to actual LARP but it's only a handful of these events, like the Purple Ball for example. From what I've been told from people who attend Bicolline regularly, Bicolline in its early years used to be a LARP event but evolved to be something unique, not found anywhere else in the world. Sadly, the roleplay aspect that makes LARP what it is have been put aside throughout Bicolline's history. I hope you enjoyed your trip to our lovely province! And I hope to meet you in person during one of those LARPs, some day! Sincerely yours, Sire Vince.
Hey there, King Vince! you are absolutely right =) - that's why I made sure to call it LARP festival (with a big emphasis on festival) - but from what I have heard in the many conversations with Bicollinians, they all told me that THEY had roleplay - there are just a lot of people that don't =D I had so much fun in your province, thank you and all your people for creating such an amazing world! Have a wonderful weekend Sonja
hmm bicoline is more of a Medieval-sim than a larp now. if you are higher up in the hierarchy than there will be more "roleplay" and politics because you are basically dealing with allied guilds versus another groupe of guilds who are fighting you for the crown. if you become king than you have alot of wonderfull bonuses and the story will be more planned around you. you then have maybe 2-3 planned events with scenario/story read to the victors and rewards and the rest of the time its all just glorious WAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! (excuse my orkish) for the glory of your guild! and spend the rest of the week attending the many games or activities played by your friends. story time: i once stumble upon a group of shamans who were doing a ritual on a teddy bear. (replacement for a live cub) and they then invited me to be bless by a random god of which i never heard of. later that day i was stuck in a losing battle until 4-5 dude came to my aids saying they recognize my blessing (some green cloth around my waist) and wanted to help. not much of a story but that made my week
If you're not from North America, you won't be as adapted to the mosquitoes here in Canada. My uncle's wife was from Belgium, and when she first moved here, she had problems with the mosquitoes for a couple of years until her body adapted to them. This is why your bite turned so huge. I don't think I've ever seen a reaction that strong. XD
The reason The Voyage North does so much for you is, they charge close to $2400. If I win the lottery I might go with them, but otherwise I'll just drive there.
Hell yard Sonja! Great video production. There is so little on Bicolline and you definitely hit a couple things I was wondering about that I hadn’t thought about when I spoke to an ambassador from the voyage north last week. See you at the Ordo camp!
@@DomesticDelphyne That's true - I have just calculated it through with the prices I got from the Bico homepage and compared it - and if you include the whole thing (food, tent, ticket etc) and have zero contacts, it was indeed cheaper! Also, I have personally found it very relieving to know, that there is someone, that will help me with everything. And it's a great start of entry when you dont know anyone yet. That being said: Of course, you can also always go by yourself =)
It's also pretty easy to get the social aspect anyway. You can wander into TVN's camp and talk to people any time without question as long as you're speaking English, and you can wander by other camps and they may invite you in. My first night in Bico my friend and I went into at least 3 different camps, including one of our enemies. Don't be afraid to wander and start conversations! Canadians are so nice.
Hey Marc, I'm so glad our video could help to entertain you and give you different thoughts! We all need them now and we will do our best, to spread happiness and immersive videos
Yeah, that drone footage is from Bicolline themselves - they were kind enough to give it to us. But the rest, was filmed by us. Basically the team you see in the end of the video and edited by our wonderful team here in Germany. Big LARP family =)
Going to Bico is definitely part of my LARP bucket list and it has been for a few years! Saving up for TVN is my next plan after I move. Great video btw, really happy for you that you got to go :)
Just check Bicolline.org for their prices before you decide you need to hold off because of the price. Bico is pretty cheap for what they offer. TVN gives you a tabard that has to be worth $1200 to make the price make sense.
Yes, you are right, Bico is pretty cheap for what they offer. As I say in the video, they cost around 300 Canadia for an entire week. But I can't confirm, that TVNs "tabard has to be worth 1200 Dollars for the price to make sense". The service is really worth the price! I had it so much easier coming from Germany - I got food, tent, shuttle, and a community right away. As well as a 24/7 contact person. It is an optional service and one I can personally absolutely recommend. for first timers from abroad. And of course, if you dont need that service but want to take care of that yourself, you can go to Bico by yourself without a problem. I just like things to be easy and I know it helps a lot of people =)
im from quebec never did any larp or anything close. I heard of bicolline when i was younger. i have been looking at videos of it since yesterday ! so happy that people all around the world come here. anyways looks fun maybe i would try
Awesome video, Sonja, I'm so happy that you like it!! You did a beautiful summary of what Bico is. :) I hope you will come back, I did not get a chance to meet you, Is was able to be there only for the Sunday of the great battle. Anyway, great job and like we said in the Hundar Nation: Na'stahidar'i!!!
Such a high quality and informative video!!! You deserve more followers. I can't wait to go one day. J'adore quand tu expliques la poutine! J'aime voir comment les non-Canadiens parlent de ça.
I've been watching Bico stuff since I was like 16 or 17, and just finally sent off an application to join TVN for the 2025 game with my partner... fingers crossed I actually get to go!! Thank you for these videos ^^
Missing Bico :( Got the blues real bad. Was nice to watch this video and remember when I was there :) Saw a couple people I had met in this video too! Cool stuff.
Hey there, how cool is that! you live in a beautiful area! I go to different Larp events every year, so no Bico for me in 2020 but I definitely wanna return one day
thank you. you helped me get interested in LARP. I'm Brazillian, and I in a city that no one knows. I thought I would never play LARP because o that. but in a city that is very close to mine, there will be a LARP event in the middle of the year I'm very happy and if you want to know the name of the event is imperium LARP. again thank you, you gave me hope I would find an event close to my city.
Oi Spagett, beleeeeeeza =D I'm glad you will get a chance to start LARP. It is still very small in Brazil from what I have heard, but that's how it always is in the beginning. Every other country had the same beginnings - so I wish you so much fun with it
@@SonjasAdventures thank you! im pretty sure im going to have a lot of fun! i love making weapons to play with my friends and now i will have a chance to use them! =D
@@SonjasAdventures btw do you have some video talking about how to do larp costumes? unfortunately i dont have the money to buy costumes from stores and i like to craft my owns but i dont know how to do it.
Watches and subscribes but will never get to go to anything because i am a carer and live in the middle of nowhere lol Always awesome to see these cool LARPs get some advertising from attendees
Ive heard many good things about Bicolline and your video definitely has sold it as something i need to participate in. I already participate in a LARP like community and would love to travel to other events and participate.
I'm european ! We have true medieval castles in nearly everrrry towns but we don't have anything looking that incredible for larping :( in the old continent we mostly have tent cities for it 🐊 Even within our 25k pop mass larp
@@Roxar96 hi Roxar, i'm 4 month late, but there is SOME vegetarian food. but i wouldn't rely on that fact to feed you for your time spent there, people tend to bring their own stuff in a cooler and i would ( greatly ) recommend it. ( assuming you're vegetarian ) i'd be happy to answer any question you have on Bicolline :)
8:32 there actually are a lot of people that sell real items for in-game currency (solar). The merchants on the main merchant road are paying real money to be there so they pretty much only take CAD. I have seen people selling wine, mead, and other items for in-game currency. I have actually sold some old kit items for in-game solar or cards.
your french is on point, hope to see you there soon ! they open again next month, if evrything is going well with covid case :S, lets stay positif and assume evrything will be allright!
A note - "Bicolline" has not Action to it. Unless its that one time in the Great Battle, you cant fight. The place is filled with shops and restaurants. Its closer to a festival than a LARP event.
So in this video, we mean "The Grand Battle" event that happens every summer 😊 Outside of that, from what they told me, there's roleplay heavy events throughout the entire year..So Larp as well but with less or no fighting
Your video inspired me! I would go if i got enough money! By the way, im interested in this "mosque" in Bicolline, is it really a functional mosque? Any video of it? Im really curious. Thanks! Greeting from Singapore LARPer
Im really Glad that you liked Bicolline and poutine too :). Hey Sonja, im gonna ask directly instead of being vague. Larping Season is only 4 months per year in Québec, a permanent indoor larp is just not possible so I had to make something New. It is Player vs player in a true dungeon setting. Interactive battleground, an electronic system that manages hit points and lots of special effect s. I cannot really talk about it yet, but i am hopping that hardcore larpers will be open minded about it. What do you think ?
Hey there, I think, that electronic devices and augmented reality are the future of a certain part of LARP and will catapult it into a new dimension! I think, if you do it right, this could be incredible! Good luck!
A bit late for an answer but I believe you have to be 16 to go by yourself but kids of any age can go with an adult. It's actually very common to see whole families and kids there!
Rule 1 of Bicolline: Go to Bicolline. Rule 2 of Bicolline: Don't go with The Voyage North. Rule 3: Either learn French, or the phrase "Je ne parle pas Français.
I'm not sure I understand the hatred against TVN. What is wrong with people choosing a service that helps them? =) It doesnt take away from your personal experience, does it?
The way they advertise leads people to believe they are the only option for Americans, so people think they have to wait and save up instead of just going for a reasonable price. I don't hate them, I just wish they were more transparent, and unless you have to fly there, I don't think what they provide is worth it.
@@Tomonkey4 okay, I understand that - maybe I just havent personally seen them advertising it this way so far. In my experience, they simply have offered a service that makes it easier for people that travel there from other countries. I'm sorry, if that came across the wrong way in my video - I tried to showcase all sides of it =)
Might be a bit late for an answer but every "Grande bataille" week, there are two camps fighting so if you are alone, you can just join one of the two armies but I still highly suggest you join a guild or a group because that adds a lot to the experience.
I don't live far since I live in quebec but never went there I'm eager when Corona end so I can try that and go there regulary. I love medieval and I",m tired of my gaming life. It's a to solo life and make me depress...
Hey Magnus, I totally understand what you mean. Larp combines the Fantasy, Roleplay and fantastic world aspect of Gaming with the advantage of a big community, friends and social life. Quebec actually has a huge Larp community. If you check out "Bicolline" on Facebook, they have official groups as well where you can find local larp groups that you can maybe join!
Sorry my german translation got confused by game master so it decided to translate it to schwulen masse. Which is just wrong but funny. Sorry to pick that out xD
@@teobenjamin2615 oh okay, I hadn't seen any racism there but obviously I wasnt able to look into every corner. I think, you can easily evade the handful of people that might think that way, though. However, I can obviously just speak to my personal experience and every experience can be different. Have you been there yourself and had a different experience?
SONJAS ADVENTURES i havent been myself. i was planning to in the future but i learnt about the blackface from people like momo. i was quite sad when i found out
@@teobenjamin2615 ah okay! I understand that the topic of dark elf makeup is very controversial. Thank you for telling me what you meant and merry belated Christmas
