A great video!! At 79, it is hard to find a body part that I like😂 I'm overjoyed that I'm upright...so far. BTW, I really like the rose sweater that I ordered from Amazon ‼️
Hi Barbara, I am 68 this year however that is not going to stop me from rocking a pair of combat ankle boot and a silk blouse this winter. At our age rock what you feel fabulous wearing.
At 75 I GET it.. thrilled I am alive and nothing major wrong. I still love clothes and dressing though it is my recreation since I cant do.sports . hiking, sailing or foreign travel anymore...I DO still have the energy to get dressed and go.out though.. Now THAT is my sport.
My priest used to say this about using “holiday dishes” or special pieces of jewelry. You are worth wearing those “special occasion” clothes or jewelry & you are worth eating on the “holiday dishes” on a Friday night in.
Exactly Anna...great points! How frustrating if the Bottega bag is in new condition when it goes out of style! Same theory is the plastic slipcovers on the beautiful velvet or brocade couch that is in new condition sitting on the sidewalk when the owner passes away and the heirs clean out the home. If you love it that much USE it and ENJOY it! My Bottegas are getting their wear...except the white one...ok I get the point!! I'm going to put my denim on denim look together for the "Canadian Tuxedo" which I forgot about but DO love. Always get new ideas from your videos...thanks for bringing fresh, useful content!

Your point about not saving your favorite clothes or accessories for special occations is so spot on. I have a tendency to do that. So silly. Concerning your point about sizes it goes both ways. I recently lost A LOT of weight and every time I go shopping with a good girlfriend and try clothes on she rolls her eyes and tells me they are way too big. I guess it is about breaking "size-habits" 😄
The loose pants/jeans with a tall boot definitely gives me a frumpy dumpy look. All of these 90's styles are coming back but they're making things confusing when trying to mix them with new styles. In the 90's I remember only wearing tall boots with skirt or dress, never with pants or jeans, unless it was stirrup pants or something.
I agree these are bad looks. Hate the front tuck tops, tall boots with any pants doesn't make sense, love the booties though. If the pant legs don't go all the way down to your ankles your legs will look shorter and weird.
Yeah. I find that I am confused by the new trends. I also don’t like most of the new ways of dressing! I refuse to wear the wide leg trousers and chunky heels. I just don’t like them full stop. I guess I’ll be one of those gals looking outdated when continuing wearing my skinny/straight jeans and my stiletto heels!
To make it more palatable, I do the closet edit in chunks. I do one category at a time. For example, one evening I go through my blouses, another day I look at skirts. It helps me focus and not get overwhelmed or get decision fatigue. I can get through the whole closet as well as accessories in about two weeks max. Good tips! (Personally, I've always preferred a block heel for a business look. Stilettos are evening. Just me 🙂)
I agree with all these points, except for the loose jeans in boots. I tried it and I just can't. But like you said, this is just my preference. Thanks for this super informative video!
I decided last year to STOP SAVING THINGS! I really try to wear everything in my closet and use everything in my home. I don't have children so when I'm gone my stuff goes to Goodwill for someone else to enjoy. What sense does that make?😊 And I love that gorgeous brown sweater you are wearing 🍁🌿🍂💙
Going to wear my navy blue P-coat today, I have had it for over 30 years and my high-waisted jeans and demi-boots, I am 75...thank you for reminding me to look at what I love that is timeless and l looks great!!
I’m 58 and have always bought good clothes and I’m now pulling out clothes to wear in new ways from 15- 25 years ago!!! So I disagree with the throwing out clothes!
My mom taught me that clothes disintegrate after time if not stored properly. She was a model and worked in many high end stores. My clothes from the 80s and 90s, the few I kept, aren't in great shape at the seams. But if yours are in good condition wear them, fashion always comes around
The only regrets I have are beautiful clothes I gave away that are now in style. To do it over if its classic, quality pack it away as when it comes back it will cost 3 times as much. I agree with you. Classic is always I style.
I just tried the denim on denim look yesterday because I was running late and it was the easiest option. All day coworkers were saying that I "looked like a model", "just stepped off of the runway", "raised the bar on office fashion standards", etc, etc 🤯😄. I'm guilty of saving things for special occasions; *especially* white things!!! I had a glorious winter white full length wool coat for at least 5 years that I only had the courage to wear 3 times in my life before I reluctantly donated it...I LOVED that coat! Last year I fell in love with a bright white puffer coat that I actually wore on a regular basis and guess what happened...nothing! I and my coat made it through NYC subways without a spot! Thanks for the reminder! I'm totally guilty of the last mistake!
This video deserves more views! I do the closet "editing" in some way.. on a weekly basis I prepare the clothes I'm gonna wear the following week. If something doesn't fit or doesn't feel good, it goes back into storage. If I don't wear it for a couple of years, it's going into the fabric recycling bin. Next week I'm gonna try the looser denim with knee high boots tip. That's something I haven't tried...
Great advice. I especially appreciate the concept of trying sizes other than your usual. Different styles may look better on us when they are more or less fitted than we typically choose! Also, being less wedded to one size gives you more leeway to find interesting items-I like browsing a consignment shop or an online boutique with the idea that the size is not necessarily the primary deciding factor.
I am in the grueling process of shopping my closet and truly discovered my style has changed. I had way too many items I had to purge because they were unappealing to me 😩
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Love this video. It screams out to me. I’m always trying to cover something. I need to be reminded that my body is 54 yrs old and beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
As a sensory kid, I cannot stand crinkled pants above a tall boot. It looks terrible too. I’ll be passing on that one. I wear tall pots over leggings. I know everyone is different. For sensory reasons, that’s what works for me. Looks feb too. I do love a good Canadian tuxedo though. It keeps us warm up here. I’m into it.😂
"If the mannequin were real he wouldn't have a ribcage." Anna 2022 I spit out my coffee! I loved it. I often wonder why mannequins look the way they do. So unrealistic. The smallest pants at the store never fit the waistline. Always gaping. Thanks for the laughs, Anna. Have an amazing day!
I have wide feet and bunions so I have to get comfy shoes and booties. Most of my pants kind of scrunch around the top of my booties, don’t know if it’s in style or not but I think it looks good. Anything goes anymore basically, so I think if we are comfortable with our look and have confidence, we can pull off anything. 😊
Stilettos just scream pain 😢. You are sooo right about having a range of sizes in your wardrobe. I have a wide range of sizes and it can really change the look of an outfit. Wonderful tips!
Oh my, thank you for addressing boots and jeans. I live in the snowy mountains. The new wide and flare legs are beyond fun, and I’ve grabbed some great flares and even straight leg jeans (never thought I would. But… but… our winter is 6 months long with real snow and there’s no denying that skinny jeans were the best trend ever for the winter boots we live in for so much of the year. I may still feel that way… after all, fitted clothing is better for insulation and a baggier may just not cut it. Or I may have to wear long underwear and that may be annoying. Or maybe it will be a bonus - more room for layers. I don’t know, but I’ll do this crazy thing and try my boots on with the straight legs jeans and see what happens. I’m sure I’m keeping the skinnies still, but maybe straight legs will give a second option.
I’m 63 and I inherited some lovely real jewelry. Now when I go out I wear “the good stuff” even if it just a casual dinner. 😊. And my daughter wears my mother’s diamond ring and her other grandmother’s sapphire ring everyday! Why save it.
I just finished my fall closet switch up, and tried most of the jeans and sweaters on to check for fit & lovableness. Great idea to do this before even thinking about more shopping. I noticed a few items that will need replacing and donated quite a few also. Some I will list on Poshmark to resell. Great suggestions as usual Anna! Though I can’t quite get used to the pooch on pants tucked into tall boots, maybe we could just loosen up a bit, jeez! Gave up the stilettos years ago, now they look like bondage wear to me. (sorry to those who love them, just my opinion😊)
I'm like, eh, no. I don't need wrinkly knee jeans. Maybe if I had long legs, but I don't. Wrinkly knee jeans inside my boots would make me look like that's all I am - a big wrinkly knee. LOL
Women do not know how they are ruining there feet wearing stilettos, I see women who now have awful looking feet due to wearing shoes that aren't for your feet!
Since I have retired, shopping is not a high priority on the list of things to do now. I have more fun shopping my closet and trying to deconstruct the way I use to wear my garments. It is amazing how many outfits I have. I wish I had learned to do this when I was working. I could have saved a LOT of money if I had learned to do this. I appreciate your kind way of sharing.
I recently loss weight and took your tips and came up with many new updated outfits to wear, all by mixing and matching “old” clothes. It’s like I went clothes shopping in my own closet and didn’t have to spend a penny! Yay!
When I try on clothes I bring several sizes and don’t look at the tags when I decide on the best fit…and yes! I cut out the tags, lol, but only because I can’t stand itchy things at my neck!
I recently redid my whole wardrobe buying mostly second hand. I went for mostly classic casual. I’m hoping the things I got will last me for the next decade. I’m 50 so can still get away with a younger kind of look so I guess there will be a time where I suddenly think I need to update my look again to look age appropriate. Not looking forward to that. I think it must be harder to do that as you get older - especially harder doing it on a budget. I get the impression older women start to rely on looking ‘expensive’ once they get past the point that they can look ‘young’. Which is harder if money is a problem.
Here's a tip for the balance of your lovely belt - take a black hair band and put it on your belt so the tail isn't flopping around. Also you're adorable!
No one ever wears stiletto heels where I live, San Francisco. People fall over laughing if they see them, they’re so ridiculous and pretentious. I never liked them with casual bottoms like jeans or cargos, either, or wore them, even for the fanciest occasion, and don’t know anyone who ever did. I’m sure the women wearing them in social media images put them on just before the photo, then take them off to walk back to their car. I love the extra height as much as any woman, so I like up to a 2.5-inch heel, wedge, platform, etc. in day footwear, but a chunky loafer, espadrille or platform sneaker can give that, too. You’re right, any higher than that, at most 3 inches, should only be worn for glamorous evening dress, not for daytime.
Ohh man... I wish I could say the same about FL! I actually got inspired with that "mistake" because I saw women on separate occasions, dressed very nice for work, but wearing 5 inch heels and it just looked so uncomfortable and off. I know they don't really want to do that! lol
Girl, you’re good. I am so glad you offered ways to wear my skinny jeans! I’ll check out the video! This video was a new take on shopping my closet! It helped sooooo much!!❤️❤️🔥
Here's what I don't understand... skinny jeans and jeggings are out. Leggings and tight leather pants are in? I think we're being played by the fashion people!
I think it's the super stretchy jeggings that are dated at this point, skinny jeans are fine, leather is very much in! 😃But always take all that with a grain of salt and wear what you love ❤️
I like Jessica Simpson shoes a lot, but they are always 4 inch heels. I have to pass now since 3” is my limit. When shopping online, I hate when some brands never manage to list heel height.
Wow. Finally someone who talks to us not at us regarding clothing. I like how you imparted these tips and not made me feel like I have to spend hundreds to look good.
My white jeans. I keep thinking "but I'm going out to eat, I don't want to get anything on them. I'm going to the park with my kids...I don't want to get anything on them". I stopped doing that. I've worn them many times and I've never gotten anything on them 🤣 Great viedo!
Hi Anna, Haven’t Worn 6 inch heels since I moved from south Florida, to a Ranch on the East coast. Bagish jeans into boots absolutely so much more comfortable , you could bend your knees lol. I do not ever go buy size if it fits it fits! Updating your wardrobe is simple enough with a few accessories, or top, etc… I purge all the time, but seriously I live in Florida, my basics could be worn all year long, add boots and a moto or duster and done, then remove the sweater or moto jacket by 10 am, put them on again about 630ish , just being real here luv !
I love this conversation regarding being honest with yourself- from a size perspective (who cares what the tag says, how do you feel/look?) and a style POV. It’s been a huge lesson now in my 30s and knowing more about fast fashion versus buying quality items for the next decade (new or via charity shop) alongside what fits an hourglass shape (not much!) has been such a relief! Thanks for such great content!
Iv learn to stop buying from fast fashion if there is something i like i go on Poshmark and look for its twin made from better materials and not polyester. It will last longer and honestly doesn’t end up costing much more then the fast fashion stores
Thanks Anna for the heads up on how to update your looks with just little tweaks! Also editing your seasonal clothing is Soooooo important to make sure you optimize the clothes you already have with maybe a couple new items to update the looks!
Meh on the 'crinkley' pant legs hanging above knee-high boots. Maybe a softer fabric pant, like joggers? But thick, bunched up fabric - that's a nope from me.
Love these tips, especially buying clothes for the fit, not the size tag. My daily uniform in retirement is pants, a top, and shoes or boots. Having a variety of shapes and sizes keeps the outfits interesting. When wearing the good stuff…like those white jeans that look SO lovely with 1000 Island dressing spilled down one leg (aka Monday lunch incident)? I now carry Shout Wipes. Everywhere. You’re welcome. Great video, Anna, you always make me giggle!
I really enjoyed this! I often have "fashion shows" inside my own closet. It helps know what I already have, what items really work, if any gaps need to be filled and reveals what would be fantasy purchases if left to my own devices!😄😄😄
Preach it sister! No one cares what size you are-fit is everything. And NEVER save things because they are too nice. Wear the cashmere. Enjoy the silk scarf. But…I am keeping my corset and stilettos because they make me feel beautiful. And that’s what fashion should do. Loved the video. Thanks Anna
Please don’t compare the historical corset to stiletto heels and foot binding. Don’t let modern fetish corsets colour your view of historical corsets. Those Edwardian and Victorian photographs you see of impossibly tiny waists are photoshopped the old fashioned way in the darkroom. Karolina Zebrowska has got in depth videos about this. They could breathe back then. We have photographs of historical women doing sports, mountain climbing, and physical labour in corsets. We also have modern people testing out physical exercise in reproductions of historical corsets: head stands, cartwheels, touching toes, dancing, etc... The corset has built in space to breathe. The corset was their version of the bra back then and it was also used to protect the waist from the weight of all those heavy layers of skirts. I’ve tried a reproduction overbust corset. It’s more supportive and much comfier than a bra. The bra band has to be very tight to actually support me. The corset does not. Unfortunately, modern clothes aren’t designed with historical corsets in mind, so I can’t ditch the bra completely. Edit: and don’t let Hollywood and Bridgerton inform you on the experience of wearing historical corsets. Women weren’t tightlaced. Women didn’t faint as Elizabeth Swan did in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Great tips as always! I don't typically shop by size as I've always thrifted since I was a teen, so I just got into the habit of buying what I was drawn to then would either play around with styling or get it adjusted 👍
Such a great video!! You hit on soo many useful points, that apply to most woman and body types, and as usual with humor and tact. Our bodies rarely stay the same, from puberty to beyond menopause, we need to adapt mentally and physically, without shame!! Thank your for sharing your thoughts and beautiful smile.✅😊🙏🏼
I enjoy donating most of my things once if not twice a year. Often It’s now outdated or I just don’t like it like I had once. I’m definitely guilty of a few of these. Thx ✌️
I just did that dreaded closet edit a few days ago. There is a large bag that needs to go to goodwill. My issue is weight fluctuation. I have too many items that I can't wear because the sizing is off and not enough things I can wear for my new body size.

There is no way that I can wear a relaxed fit jeans with knee high boots. Even with my skinny jeans, zipping up my boots over my calf is quite challenging, not to mention, having all the bunching of material at the knee when you are only 4’10” is just not cool looking. 😬 you are absolutely right about clothing sizes. My wardrobe has developed into a really broad range of sizes…small to XL. Style, cut, material, and manufacturer can definitely require sizing up or down in an item. I do continue to wear skinny jeans quite often, but do pair them with my chunky Doc Marten’s and other chunky platform boots I’ve added to my shoe collection. It sure beats trying to balance on heels although there are times where tossing on a pair of pumps or kitten heels for an evening out.
So jealous of women who can wear S, M, L etc. I have broad shoulders busty, with narrow hips. Everything has to be tailored. I go quite mad from this. Thank you for your tips. First time subscriber. Yes, dolman sleeves work for me, hard to find
Lots of contradictions.. like not wearing stilettos during the day but you show several examples of what to do and the woman has on stilettos during the day. Skinny jeans with ankle boots will always be classic. Another classic that will never go out of style is tall Boots with skinny jeans. I couldn’t help but laugh at the tall boots with straight leg/loose pants! 🤦🏼♀️ Never ever ever! Speaking of never ever ever.. denim on denim??
What I'm sick of looking at is the skinny jean oversized sweater and drain pipe length boots look. How old is that look? How tiring and unimaginative is that boring old look? How about buying some slacks. I saw quite a few pictures on this video that showed woman wearing slacks and they looked so elegant and well put together. Then the skinny pant pics came out with the pigeon toed straw legged models and i just cringed!!! Horrible!!!!!!! She gave a lot of great advice and I hope we all take it, especially the younger women. Life is too short to be wearing the same style clothes for over a decade!
@@goodmorningbeautifulhumans1638 No, it's more like Personal Style, which I believe is WAY more interesting and comfortable than "Fashion" or short-lived trends!!
Tucked in shirts for big girls with big bellies still look so bad. I can’t get into that. The best I can do is a very long, tunic like button up half tucked in with a lot of short still hanging over to diffuse the tummy but really, I’m still so uncomfortable with that. I know it’s the norm but I’m still having a huge problem with that. I wish there was a better compromise.
How much are you being paid to put people down? Let people decide what’s comfortable and right for them. Your voice hurts the ears so why don’t you change it out? 😂
Your point about sizing is something I've recently come to terms with too... It's a bit of a hard pill to swallow at first but once you wrap your head around it (size small and size 4 or 6 no matter what was my thing), everything really does look more flattering and it opens up a lot more options. Great video and great advice!! ❤❤❤
Me too! And the part about the label is so true! No one has ever asked me what size my clothes were! 😆 What a revelation that I can size up with no detection 🙄 Thanks again for the reminder!
uuggghhhh yes! you're so right! i have been sucking myself into that size 4 forever! just yesterday i was buying a pair of slacks and went to a size 6! better looking and fitting :-)
North American sizing is nearly meaningless due to vanity sizing. When I’m at the secondhand, I can tell what decade the clothes are from by how they compare to “my” size. A 2010 size 10 will generally fit me better than 2020s (too big) or anything before 2000 (ranging from “a bit snug”-2000- to “aww, hell nah”-before 90s). I always consult European size charts and translate to a seller’s US size before ordering.
I wear high heels everyday, even I go grocery shopping and I never ever wore anything for anyone. I wore it cause I like it. Makes me more confident. I wear the clothes and shoes for me, not for anyone. Sorry
I can't wear stilettos. I love the chunky heel and platform boots and I prefer skinny jeans cos I've got narrow hips, a tummy but I have a nice bum lol 😂
I enjoyed this video (as usual). But I am a bit confused by one thing. Maybe I am just totally not a cool chic but WHY do your jeans (skinny or straight leg) always have to be tucked inside the boots? I am a fan of straight leg jeans and it seems to me that while wearing your jeans tucked into the boot allows you to really show off and showcase your great boots, it also interrupts the line of your jeans. Having a continuous line from top to bottom of your jeans visually adds height and (hopefully) allows you to appear at least a bit slimmer. Doesn't it? Or did I miss something here? Bear in mind that wearing my jeans tucked inside the boot has long been outside my range of options given the size of my calves and only recently has become an option for me (Yea!). Also, tucking straight leg jeans into the boot is a bit more cumbersome than tucking skinny jeans. Either way, I am looking forward to wearing my cool weather clothes. Has been warm for so long, felt like we would never have need for long sleeves again!
I really didn't want to ever become any kind of a troll, but seeing the belt, the sofa, and the picture frame I know there's no need to watch to the end
