Bret Hart: Ok, you ready to go? Bulldog: I gotta be honest, I have no clue what I'm supposed to do Bret Hart: (sigh) Alright, I'll just carry you to a 5 star classic. Bulldog: Fine with me fam
Bulldog got the biggest spot of his career up to that point and nearly blew it by smoking rocks. That match is part of why I have so much respect for Bret Hart as a wrestler. No wonder Bulldog dropped the Intercontinental Championship to Shawn Michaels at an SNME taping only 2 months later in Terre Haute.
Bret was a master inside the ring. It is just a shame his personality on the microphone wasn't always as graceful. By all rights, it shouldn't NEED to be, as there would be many ways to (as Paul Heyman would put it) accentuate the positives and hide the negatives. Unfortunately, Bret was in the era of over-the-top colorful personalities. Not at all his fault, and if he was at his peak during almost any other era, he could have been even greater. My gods, can you imagine Bret Hart during the Ruthless Aggression era? And a Hart vs. Benoit feud on top of it. (please leave any anti-Benoit statements at the door, this isn't ABOUT that).
it's one of those reasons why i fucking love that man. he will help you create a great match and put you over. the guy could wrestle a broomstick and make it a 5-star classic.
K1productions The biggest shame about him leaving WWF in 97 was that he had done the best mic work of his career from the "I'm getting screwed!" complaining that led to Mania 13 and his turn, through the new Hart Foundation stuff with Owen/Davy/Niedhart and Pillman. His promos in that period are electric and he had left that exaggerated cadence he always used mostly behind at that time. Sadly, when WCW dropped the ball with him, he went back to that and really only had one memorable segment in WCW for the right reasons, which was the chest plate/Goldberg deal.
Top 5 dream matches: 1. Bret Hart vs CM Punk 2. Bret Hart vs AJ Styles 3. Bret Hart vs Eddie Guerrero 4. Bret Hart vs Kurt Angle 5. Bret Hart vs Chris Jericho
I was there! 8 hours on the coach from Newcastle, 11 years old, up in the nose bleeds, with an L.O.D bandana and Hitman shades on. I Sneaked down to about 10 rows from ringside with my Dad to watch Bulldog V Hitman. The whole crowd singing "Bulldog, Hitman, Bulldog, Hitman." Great memories.
Philly Blackett: I was not there but remember walking over the town bridge in Peterborough after a night at Charters, and seeing fans on their way home from Wembley. I asked who won and when they said the Bulldog my heart sank. I was a big Hitman fan. After watching the match though my disappointment was gone. What a great match.
The clothes he went in with were mislaid in prison reception when he was released he got a travel warrant and spent his release grant on finding boss man
He decided against civilian clothes as he was as hard as marble like my spam javelin when Kathleen bends over I'm like a dog chasing a yoghurt pot. I'm not frightened and neither is Kathleen
Two things: 1) After watching this, I now realize why Bret Hart was my older brother’s favorite wrestler. Amazing guy! 2) Savage should’ve beaten Warrior fair and square! At least he kept the belt.
For the Warrior heel turn to mean anything he would have HAD to win the title that night. Savage got the belt off Flair at WM8 because he made it a condition of participation.
You know there's a couple of wrestling stories i just love to hear over and over again; Bret Hart carrying Bulldog through this entire match is one of them. I mean think about it, how some wrestlers fail even after weeks of preparation and how Bret Hart can basically create a 5-star match on the fly, basically having to call all the spots right there in the ring and not be painfully obvious about it.
I was there and it was bloody brilliant!! I never thought that a WWF PPV, and one of the ‘ big 4 ‘ at that, would ever take place in London!! Seeing how well it did and how well it was received I’m surprised that the 92 summerslam was the only ‘ big 4 ‘ PPV that’s ever taken place in the UK. Give us another one Vince!!
i've always wondered why it is that WWE have never tried to hold a PPV in England again after SS92. It doesn't have to be one of the big four, but i'm sure they'd do big business.
Jarron House I m from Philadelphia, us Philly hardcore fan love your wrestling, But England, foreign fans take it to would new level and deserve another pay-per-view
Yeah this was a good video an- WAIT WHAT? HOLY FUCKING GUACAMOLE JESUS HUMPBACKWHALING OLE OLE OLE OLEEEE OLEEEE OL- WHA- WHOOOOOOOOOOO- WHAUUAAUAUHAHA
As a little 7 year old with only council TV, this was the first WWF/E show I'd ever watched (on VHS), up to this point it was Saturday morning wrestling with Dig Daddy and Giant Haystacks.
To be absolutely fair (and I am a Bret Hart mark to the power of 11), No 1 comes from Bret's own account in his book, which he put together years after Davey Boy passed, so he can't give his side. So it might not be quite that way: I really got the impression Bret wrote the book when his mind was in a dark place, because at the end he said he would never forgive Shawn or Hunter for what they did, and later, he did make peace with Shawn, so...yeah. Might be a negative bent to the remembrance.
Crush V Repo wasn't shown (according to the lads at OSW Review) was because they took a break to plug Sky Sports Football, Nottingham Forest vs Norwich if I remember
0:53 That's not the Capital Centre. That's FedExField. The Capital Centre was an indoor arena that was former home of the Washington Capitals and the Washington Bullets. FedExField is an outdoor NFL stadium that is the current home of the Washington Redskins.
I was at the Summerslam Spectacular filmed for Prime Time Wrestling a couple weeks earlier in Nashville, Tennessee. Warrior and Macho vs The Nasty Boys.. Bret vs Skinner.
Thank you plumpy, its the first time i see on whatculture that someone gives credit on the hart vs bulldog summerslam match only to bret. I always hear on here how great bulldog was but bret had to call everything, no bret, bulldog was a scared puppy so thank you for mentioning it this time.
The "true masterpiece" part isn't an exageration, folks. If you have seen it, go take a look. Bret/Owen Hart/Bulldog matches of that era have a pace and intrigue of their own, better than most matches at the time by a step if you enjoy holds and reversals rather than big dramatic moves, but this is absolutely one of the best. The other one I'd mention would be Bret vs. Owen opening Mania 10.
i was actually at this. i was seven years old plus still have the tickets. i got foam L.O.D shoulder pads. was awesome. even saw a guy cosplay as big boss man
The reason Crush v Repo Man did not air in the UK was because August 1992 was the first Premier league season. Summerslam 92 aired 31st August on a Monday afternoon on Sky Sports and this was the start of Monday Night Football. Richard Keys did a small preview show during the Summerslam taping broadcast and so there was no time for the Repo Crush match. I was at Wembley 29th August and wanted to tape the recording. It still might be in my dad's loft somewhere.
2:38 Sky cut the Criush-Repo Man match because they wanted to broadcast a long promo piece for the Premier League and they had to cut *something* to fit the timeslot and Crush/Repo drew the short srraw..
i remember when bret was going to make that leap from the top rope, bulldog was suppose to catch him into his finishing running power bomb out side the ring but he completely forgot have bret turn it into a fly spinning neck breaker
I got asked once did i go to Summerslam 92 as i was spotted on TV, but it wasn't me it was my stunt double LOL (man with black hair and glasses just to the left of the turnbuckle pad)
If shawn can claim to be Mr. Wrestlemania, then Bret damn sure is Mr. Summerslam after not only carrying the whole thing but making it also the best match on the card.
Sadly, Simon Miller did not get to see the Repo Man live on UK television Summerslam. Early Summerslam history has opened with several strong tag matches
I could be wrong but I'm sure the Repo/crush match was not shown in England because Sky Sports chose to cut that match out and air a super sunday/monday night football preview in it's place (keep in mind the premier league started it's first season/sky tv contract around this time) then went back to the show. I believe the match was Norwich City vs Nottingham Forest.
Adam in '10 things wwe would like you to forget about chris jericho': i dont really get the whole national pride thing. Adam here: god save our gracious!
Soooo, Jim Neidhart used to live near my cousin, and her boyfriend at the time, for several years. They used to do a lot of drugs together. I remember around 1995, when I was really getting into wrestling again, her telling me about how much crack, cocaine, and other drugs they all would do together a few years before. She actually wanted to try to set me up with "Jimmy's pretty daughter Natalie, she's about your age" on more than one occasion.
That's crazy! Kane is my dentist, he told me that his brother burned down his childhood home. He was able to get a good settlement out of it, but this dick accountant named I.R Sheister screwed him out of the money. It got so bad that this Repo Man nicknamed Ax came and took back all his cars and stuff. True story.
Florida, not Britain. I don't actually know if the issue with Bulldog was at the same time, but she was with the guy for 7-8 years until about 1993-4. It's possible she was lying just to impress, she was prone to that with other things. I know Neidhart lived in the area at the time, so anything's possible.
Walter Weathers I don't know who didn't but my guesses would be Bret Hart Undertaker Jake Roberts Vader Mick Foley Ric Flair Mr. Perfect Big Bossman Akeem Randy Savage Tito Santana Yokozuna Owen Hart Let's see how many of those I got are right and wrong.
