Sometimes i still revisit the OG splinter cell, dragging some poor schmuck into a dark corner and watching him and sam disappear with only 3 green dots being visible... just, perfection
haha , I remember playing splinter cell pandora tommorow as a kid and i couldn't finish it because of the shadows bug , whenever I was in total dark and enemies could see me , damn that was so frustrating , back then I didnt't have internet so I couldn't watch any walktroughs , thinking about finishing it the proper way now as I know the fix :)
As a stealth enthusiast, OG Splinter Cell and Hitman were my absolute childhood. The first 4 games, in both franchises make me so nostalgic. Luckily the Hitman games are still great.
This makes me so nostalgic! Modern games are more fun and life like than ever but something about a majority of 2000's/early 2010s games had so much love, soul, and personality put into them that some games lack now.
I'll give you life like but more fun? Not for the most part, at least not in the bigger AAA releases for me. Too many these days are unfinished, hand holding games full of cut scenes instead of gameplay. There are exceptions, as always but back then they wanted to produce a great game that made money. Now they just want to make money.
@@Lunamana yea but they are expensive and he said he doesn't like then as much anymore. I don't like indie so I don't play unless they are free "gamepass" . Just curious
You know, I went through a few systems trying to run that upon release and all struggled to get decent visuals and FPS, until I re-installed it years later with what today would be considered pre-historic hardware: I'm talking AMD Athlon 64 x2 and an nVidia Geforce 9600 GS with a whopping(!) 48 shaders and 768 MB DDR2 VRAM. Yet despite these ancient components this game ran with everything cranked to the absolute maximum, and it made me love it even more. And like you say, it's the sense of immersion that really draws me in; just standing on the beach, taking in the ambience, deciding which tactics you use to take down the upcoming enemies.. tons of landscape to explore. Lots of cool weapons, enemies, and different terrain. Just you against the elements and your enemy. One of my all-time favourites this one.
@@twoshotsofvodka8401 I didn't have to. I had a friend who owned them all and owns a digital library on his PC of all the files I could ever want. If you don't necessarily care about anything, can always download the files from some ROM websites.
oh man thats a good idea how well does it run? mgs5 was such a let down i couldn't even finish it. metal gear was always super narrative driven and linear the open world felt so much like a departure from the story line that it felt like a complete other game at times. not saying open world doesn't work but this one defiantly didn't its honestly pointless
@@finck9226 it's pretty good. I also have am extremely beefy PC but I'm sure anything from the last 2 gets could easily run it in 2k but maybe not 4k upscaled. I use RPCS3 for my emulation.
A neat thing about Okami is that Clover made the all the assets in HD before HD was a standard, so when it came to the HD releases it was a smooth transition.
@@jonathanperez612 Well it was never officially announced but there was gameplay footage of it in 2015 or so. But after Googling it, there's a rumor about a new iteration of AW2 but it's just a rumor.
I knew I wouldn't have to scroll far before someone mentioned this. This game was in the top 5 best looking games of the original Xbox's lifespan. A truly great looking game.
@@bloodsweatandbeers4684 Oh man the developers that made heavy rain know how to make a cinematic game! Try Detroit become human and beyond two souls! Dude they’re some of my favorite games of all time!
i remember i didnt even finish this game, didnt like at all while loved other remedy's masterpiece max payne 2, i finished max payne 2 for 7 times xD I wish they will release max payne 4 similar to 2nd cuz 3rd wasnt as good. If u never played max payne 2 and u can accept 2003 graphics but with very nice criminal story in noir style i highly recommend u to play it
I feel the 2000,s were the time when developers put real love into the games and great stories.... these days monopolistic game companies are swallowing all the small but unique fish and we are getting games released that are half baked, have loot boxes or both!
Rdr2,gta 5,mafia definitive edition, witcher 3,ac origins. These games have amazing stories while witcher 3 and rdr2 have one of the best ever. These are modern games
@@razor5268 yeah especially in the indie community ... but as soon as they are gobbled up by EA, Ubisoft or Bethesda... you can expect standards to drop and some loot system to be introduced! It’s telling that many of these big devs are re-releasing classics that people enjoyed from the 2000s
Enjoy the masterpiece, and feel free to check out the Gaming University youtube channel if you want to know kore about the Lore/Psychology behind it. Not my channel, it's just really good
I’m glad we’re living in a time when even games that are 10 year old still are pretty good graphically and even mechanically. Hell I’d even say going back to 2006 or 2007
@@acev3521 If you really think many Super Nintendo, Genesis and even plenty of PS1/N64 games aren't timelessly enjoyable, then you don't really enjoy video games as much as you think you do. I don't disagree that the 6th gen was a golden age (and my favorite generation), but every era has its classics.
@@acev3521 you said ppl who think the 90s is the golden age is *only* because of nostalgia. Only someone who thinks the era was weak would say something like that.
Assassin's Creed 1 Grand theft auto 4 God of war 2 Ninja gaiden sigma 2 Tom Clancy's splinter cell blacklist and many more I can go on forever but seems like this dude is a fps fanboy so understandable
Nearly all of these games were killers in their day but I loved FEAR for the highly reactive AI, the visceral slow-mo effect which has to be one of the best, the jump scares and that nail gun where you pin people to walls but all of the guns were perfect.
And even controls, movement, animations.. I love that you can adjust the walking/running speed by scrolling the mouse wheel, i don't get why other games don't implement this feature, it works so well
In COD Modern Warfare 2 I remember there was a scene where the Marines would have to go through Whisky hotel, and while gameplay lightning struck and the whole room illuminated for a second, that was when I knew Activision achieved something great and it was 2010.
I'm surprised Gran Turismo 4 isn't on this list, 2005 could output 1080i on a PS2 talk about graphics and not to mention the optimisation needed to get 2001's kit to do something like that.
I will NEVER forget the intro to Bioshock 1. That first part ON the ocean with the sinking plane all around you and the fire is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. The rest isn't bad, but nothing compared to that intro sequence.
I'm just happy that you chose to pick "Alan Wake" as your thumbnail for this video. That thumbnail is self explanatory of what this video is gonna talk about 👍😁
I miss the era of great first person shooters. Titanfall 2 and Doom 2016 were sooo good but they’re so few and far between nowadays. Anyone remember Singularity? Love to see that remade.
I hear you, I miss the abundance of good FPS games. Last decade only gave us a few really good shooters. Check out Metro Exodus if you haven't. Infact, the entire Metro series is a single player game in the same veins as the Half Life series. Go for the redux versions if you are planning on checking it out. Another game i would highly recommend is Prey (2017), i.e. if you enjoyed Bioshock 1 and Systemshock. It's a damn good spiritual successor to the latter two. And if you want some fast paced games like Doom (2016), then check out Shadow Warrior 2 and Rage 2. Rage 2 has a boring open world, but my god the COMBAT!! Once you unlock all the special abilities and weapons, the combat can actually be way better than Doom. But there are also some good shooters being released in the Indie game scene as well. Check out the youtube channel by Gmanlives, he reviews tons of FPS games like these and mainstream ones too.
Ahh Okami. The game needs all the praise/recognition and then some. IMHO of course. Team GameRanx . . . thanks for the videos!!! 🤗❣ Be safe and STAY blessed everyone 🙏
I was really expecting Half Life 2 Lost Coast or Episode 2. Either way, good list. It might be the boomer in me but I think the graphics back then were overall a better experience. Nowadays everything requires a big amount of temporal AA and it blurs the hell out of everything and gives me a headache after an hour
FINALLY someone mentions Warhead and not just Crysis 1. One game that comes to mind is Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Brotherhood and Revelations didn't have a borderline photorealistic look or anything, but it was very beatiful and self-consistent
The Warriors, Bully and most Rockstar games still hold up today. Also, idk if it’s nostalgia but the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell games still look good to me
Sonic Unleashed is still my favourite looking game ever. It's like a playable Pixar movie. I do wish it would be realised again with a better frame rate
Ah yes I heard of it I didn't know Remedy made it, it looks quite interesting. I much more prefer these sort of games to run n gun stuff. Stuff with story and suspense.
Playing Motorstorm on my PS3 (the first game I loaded up when I got the console) was a jaw dropping moment - huge step up graphically with that console. Mirrors Edge, Killzone 2, AC2, Bioshock.... incredible.
One game/s I miss are the condemned games. I really enjoyed the style of those games and the way they felt to play, it felt heavy and every swing felt tiring, personally I loved them at the time and I wish they got more love
This vid Makes me wanna revisit some old games like IGI,bully,Freedom fighters, total overdose, the first 3 call duty's, the original infamous and metal gear solid (old one's)
At least I'm not the only person here who remembers this game.... "GRAAANNNAAADA" 🤣 i remember sitting in an armchair for about 3days straight playing this through to unlock 'black' difficulty was a mad game for its time 👌👍
Man, Batman Arkham Asylum and 2008's Prince of Persia was the first games I bought for my PS3. My 9 year old self was mind blown by the graphics. Sadly, I wasn't able to beat PoP and BMAA until recently when I turned 18 and played my PS3 for old time sakes.
Deadpsace is absolutely one of the best looking games from the 2000's. I think Ff10 honestly holds up pretty well considering it came out in what 02. But all in all id say uncharted for me was number 1.
