Cuz fishes have brain and accuatly very intelligent, the can memorize everything even theyre owners and the most known fish for the skills is koi, koi is also one of the most intelligent fish out there, it is really friendly and eazy to train
Eunae Kim cats are actually pretty dumb compared to fish. I tried teaching my cat stuff like this and he took 6 months to get it right. Yet my Betta fish only took 4 weeks to learn all of these. Still love them both the same lol
Wow. This is so eye opening for me. I’ve owned many fish in the past, but I guess I was always told to not “bother them” because it will stress them out. But I’m realizing now that a fish’s life doesn’t have to be stressful. It can actually be filled with joy, enrichment and affectionate bonding with its owner. This is such a great thing to do for your fish, giving it something to stimulate its mind and body and giving it a purpose instead of just swimming back and forth in its tank. Ive never trained a fish before, but in the future when I inevitably get them again, I definitely will try! Thanks for the upload I know this was a few years ago but felt I had to comment. Ps: I’m just thinking right now that you could actually train your fish to go into the net once it’s time to clean the tank.. it could actually not be stressed out and know what’s going on! This is amazing!
Thank you for the comment! :) Fish really are capable of so much. Star is so curious and intelligent, so training puts his mind to good use. The video was a couple years ago, but I still do a bit of training with Star now too. :) He enjoys it so much, it's difficult to stop completely. We haven't been working on too many new tricks lately (I really should think of something new to teach him though!) Hopefully I'll get around to finishing and uploading an updated video soon! :)
I am very ashamed to think that fish are too dumb to do any tricks like normal pets (as we all know, dogs, cats maybe parrots etc) now I know that not only are they intelligent but also sweet and caring! ( Except if your have a piranha. You better get your fingers out off the tank ) thanks for uploading this video it made me get a pet fish!
Oh parrots can do tricks, they need A LOT of mental stimulation. This video just amazes me, I have had fish in the past, but I never thought you could train one. If I do get a fish in the future I will the fish as much as I love birds and I will make him/her happy and mentally stimulated 😁
Daws I’d love to own. Piranha one day. I need to go through some licensing I thing, though. And a massive tank with a strong canister filter. And a super heavy duty lid because I have a lovebird and he is snack sized.
My fish: **Is healthy and active always ready to see me and really likes to be fuzzled** My cat: **sleeps all day and when i touch him he destroys my arm also tried to burn the entire house down because he was able to knock down flammable things around the house**
This is a very cute and heartwarming video. It reminds me of my own daily experiences with my cichlids. I have 16 tanks of African Cichlids, most are pets and I also breed the Aulonocara Red Top Lwanda Species of cichlid. I can attest to the fact they are very smart fish and quick to learn. Some like to swim into my hand and let me pick them up and hold them out of the water and put them back then come right back to me, it’s a game they play with me when I’m changing their water, lol cichlids are hilarious, they also learn to recognize their owners(tank keepers) faces and the sound vibration of their names (if you name yours). They can live 6-10 years in captivity depending on the breed some longer.
Thank u so much for all of your fish tricks videos it really inspired me. A year ago from today I got my beta and now today she is getting a amazing tank upgrade and I’m going back to teaching her tricks again. Thank you so much for inspiring me!
It only takes a few minutes a day. :) Just start with simple things like eating food from your hand or touching a target and then go from there. Thats a happy fish :D Beautiful relationship u have with this litte cutey. Loved the limbo toy! so sweet that you made all these ^^ I used to play games with my betta. This made me smile a lot :))))
+ShanesWorldification Thanks! :) Fish can definitely be pretty smart, I think most people just don't think too much about how intelligent they can be. :)
I do cherish every minute I have them with me. They're truly a blessing. ♥ Ceico is about 4 and a half years old now, I work with him for a few minutes once a day and have since he was young. Ace is almost a year and a half now I think. I worked with him 2-3 times a day for the first few months, and now once a day, sometimes twice. Ceico was a lot more challenging at the beginning (he has always been a nervous pig) so he took quite a bit longer to learn than Ace (who is afraid of nothing lol.)
:( my fish get scared when I walk past their tank, and when I go to put food in, they swim behind the filter and the heater and just stay until I’m gone, advice ??
Also, you can try just staying still in front the tank with no sudden movements for a few minutes every day, eventually they will get used to you. Maybe read a book and get a chair while your at it. It worked for me, just be patient 😊
So cute, and thanks man i did the hand hoop because i wanted to play with Kiyel (my fish) And btw my fish is a betta veiltail male and The hoop worked tysm :D
my goldfish, which i’ve had for 4 years just passed away today. i really miss her and i honestly wish i played with her more, yes i did the hoop, played with her and fed her well but i still feel like it’s my fault. it’s probably only because of old age because she’s been here for a while, or because she laid eggs yesterday (which we never keep because there are thousands of them) whatever it is, i know she’s in a better place now and i hope she had a good life
That is amazing. ...you must have put alot of time into teaching this Cichlid all these tricks.....and Star seems Eagar to preform them. Very impressive.
Wow so many great tricks! Do you use a clicker with him? Do you lure him to begin with or just see what he offers? I love him going though the tiny hoop and through the net, he's pretty speedy, love how he knows exactly what to do as soon as he sees each item. Does he have good eyesight?
+Positive Ferrets haha, the hoop didn't used to be tiny! :P He has grown so much, lol. :P He is so speedy though, lol. I was used to working with bettas before him (super slow sloths of the fish world! :P) so it definitely took some adjustment and a specific balancing act to keep up with him, haha. :P I sometimes use the target stick to guide him, I often just shape or capture behaviours though, he is quick and offers a lot of different behaviours, so it's usually pretty easy to shape new tricks. :) I haven't used a clicker too much with him, but when he sees me raise my arm up to give him the food, or touch the surface of the water with my finger, it seems to have a similar effect to a clicker. :) I don't know how well he can see to be honest, but there's a video on youtube of a clicker trained fish named Erasmus (same species as Star) that circles in different directions in response to different colours, so apparently they can see different colours. :)
+Spartan's Tricks First of all, amazing what's you've done here. My albino socolofi also doesn't see too well, but it does see better when it's had 30 mins to adjust to the lighting conditions. Fish eyes take about 30 minutes to adjust to large light intensity changes and it seems to take albino ones extra long.
+Steve Gong Thanks, that's really interesting! Definitely good to keep in mind. :) I take the cover off the tank every time I work with him, so the lighting does change a lot. The first several times, he took off and hid as soon as I took it off, but I never thought much of it. That definitely makes sense though!

THAT IS SO CUTE! Recently I got myself a comet goldfish and he is so fun to watch. He likes to play in the bubbles and swim through the pipe where the bubbles come out of like a hoop. I haven't tried hand feeding him yet though. I've only had him for 3 days.
I used this video at my English lesson. We were discussing your smart fish, and my student said that he didn't think they could be so intelligent. I am going to surprise my other students, so I am bookmarking you. PS my guppies have also got trained, and now they swim to the surface when I knock on the glass with my nail. I doubt if my guppies can learn more tricks because even now they struggle with the right direction and often swim towards my face, and not the sound of knocking.
Try to start. I started being responsible when I got my fish, now I have had them for more than a year, I am completely able to take care of a cat, that is a lot more work than a fish.
