I wont defend the Republic, if it were the Empire they would wreck the Space Marines. That being said, Colonial Marines have realy really lethal weapons and Power-armors that would make the whole IOM jealous. I think the United Americas Colonial Marines can win fights against the IOM as long as the numbers are even, an I think an actual all out war they could win, though the percentage of that isn't as good unless they start purposely using Xenomorphs, but thats a lose lose situation.

They are, but they also have one disadvantage. They're proper special forces. Most of these other space marines are the standard frontline troops, the frontline troops in 40k are the imperial guard. So that means the mobile infantry and clones will have thousands and millions, while space marines with how ultra expensive they are will be always outnumbered. From what I heard it sounds like starship troopers use a world war one tactics bases as their go to handbook. You go in with an adequate weapons and in adequate training. The mobile infantry in the movies is probably used by the Federation to suppress civilian uprisings and small Civil Wars across earth and its colonies. I'd assume that they mostly just fight small groups of ill-equipped rebels. That would explain why they're so lightly armed, and why they train to fight human targets. They probably haven't fought a large-scale mechanized war for centuries, which would explain their poor tactics.

The ill equipped live action mobile infantry can be easily explained. You see, the mobile infantry was preparing to fight an inevitable civil war. @justafaniv1097

I mean, the transports are kinda perfect for the type of military they serve. The Mobile Infantry practices human wave tactics (however flawed they may be, and obviously only taking into account the movies), consequently, the transport craft is an ugly hunk of junk designed to fit as many people on board as possible. It fits doctrine perfectly, and it might stand to reason that if the federation decided to switch up their tactics, they would be capable of creating a ship just as functional for the new role.

The movie outright acknowledges that Klendathu was a failed assault, and Sky Marshal Dienes steps down and is replaced by Sky Marshal Tehat Meru as a result of this failure. It is always a bit confusing when talking about Starship Troopers because of the massive differences between the book and other media, but something that you missed is that humanity not "ruled" in any version. The Terran Federation is a minimalist government that is made up entirely of volunteers that take on the responsibility to protect the rest of humanity so that they don't even notice government in their lives. This is true in both the book and the movie despite the director wanting to portray them as fascistic but didn't have the first clue as to what fascism is and was too lazy to look it up.
@HenkkaArtGames
@HenkkaArtGames 5 лет назад
It's kinda funny that even the movie version is so far removed from fascism. Like, if you really look at the first movie and the world-building, it's quite apparent that the society there is very free. Education is good, people don't have curfews, there is no secret police. There is hardly any actual military propaganda (one of the biggest manifestations of fascism), the news they show feature the true, ugly face of war as it is: massive casualties. There is relatively little corruption (failed leaders step down willfully, something a fascistic society wouldn't have) and civilians aren't "second rate humans" and can actually be extremely rich and otherwise prosperous (the only thing they can't do is vote and hold office - because they didn't want to sacrifice anything to achieve that). And in both, the book and movie, you can always walk away from the military (unless you are part of Rasczak's Roughnecks where "Everyone fights, no one quits and he shoots quitters himself"). You know, I think that the guy who actually wrote the script probably trolled Verhoeven into thinking he was making a facism satire (because that's what Verhoeven thinks the movie is) when in reality he filmed a movie about quite a wholesome society instead. :D
@Jeremiah90526
@Jeremiah90526 5 лет назад
@@HenkkaArtGames Actually, even the Roughnecks in the movie would presumably have the same rights to walk away. You can't desert while you are on the ground during a battle (obviously) but in the book you can tap out when you are about to be put in your pod before insertion, it just doesn't happen. And by it doesn't happen, I mean it is far more common for guys to try dropping when it is a horrible idea for them to do so, whether they are sick or injured, because that is just the type of espirit du corps that they have.

I'm going to point out an issue with the Government section, namely that the reason why in the films we only see what is perceived to be a "Military Junta" is because we only see the military section of the government at war. It is no different if aliens where to look at out propaganda broadcasts during Vietnam, they only seem military leaders being replaced, removed, or talking about strategy. Rarely would the nation's president come on to talk about military focuses or intents. 2) like another comment said, "service" guarantees citizenship, any service to the government is included, and in the list presented in the movie and conversations, you are considered to have done service by just being a mail man. 3)" The military controls everything because the government is made up of mostly veterans." The statement is mostly wrong, but to add to it, the system presented in the movie is actually no different than the system used by the Romans during the ancient era. Service(IE serving in a legion, or as an administrator to the state) guarantees citizenship(IE the right to be a part of the Roman Senate, run for public office, or serve as an officer for more benefits).

the MI armor suit was arguably _sufficient_ for what the MI had to face up to that point. they weren't at war with the arachnids until the events of the movie (or, book) yes, that kit was insufficient to face the arachnids, but that doesn't seem to be the case when taking about _other_ enemies. 8:07 there... same with the weapons. human-on-human warfare, not human-on-alien.

the first starship troopers is not a mindless action movie, its not concerned with making the troops into effective super soldiers for a marathon of brainless michael bay style splosions .. it goes over most people's heads, but the first movie is actually satire... verhoeven does his best to use satire to critique real life institutions and ideologies that perpetuate propaganda, censorship, civil obedience and war while still portraying the main characters, the soldiers as brave everyday people who just happen to enlist and now have to experience the horrors of war. the tactics and tech are not at all meant to be realistic.. in fact many times the stupidity of it all is purposely meant to highlight negative aspects of the future society in the film.
@yifenghu4979
@yifenghu4979 5 лет назад
triston murray I am aware of that and the movie is still a joke! What the movie was trying to say about society was also showed in the novel and in much better way. The novel is a discussion about many things wrapped in a sci-fi and it did a dam good job about it. This is why I love Heinlein’s books, he can always merge them seamlessly with a wonderful story. The movie? No, they try so hard on making comments on some of them in expense of other important thoughts in the novel and trashed a good story! Also, except the plot it resembles nothing of the book. If you make a movie based on a novel you better make it like the novel. Can I make a movie about 7 dwarfs carrying Snow White and throwing her into volcano to fight a evil queen and call it The Lord of the Rings?! Make the movie in another title I don’t care. Since it is named Starship Troopers, that movie is a joke and its sequels!

I rate Starship Troopers film's mobile infantry a 5. They have a lot of character. The book's Mobile Infantry is close enough to what we now call Mary Sue. In the book, Mobile Infantry are Superman, each and every one of them, and their jobs are demolition, not really fighting bugs. As a story, the movie is better than the book. As for boys and girls showering together, that's what true gender equality is. Both male and female are the same and equal, so there is no need to separate anything by gender. In comparison, our 3rd wavers no longer want equality and only want all women given special treatment. Anyway, I miss STTA. Anyone ever managed to make it work on Windows 7 and Windows 10?

The movies have a Mobile Infantry so inept that it pretty much only edges out Starfleet redshirts. Fun fact: there was a Starship Troopers tabletop strategy game in the early 2000's that tried to bridge the gap between the movies and the more book-based cartoon (similar to the animes from a couple years ago) that featured powered armor and mechs. It used the movie version of the MI as local militia forces stationed in places not expected to see combat. Aside from a lower point cost, these militia were worse than the _real_ MI in every way: barely trained, poorly equipped, and badly led. Just like the movie!

The Mobile Infantry in the book was a lethal and very effective fighting force using jump jet equipped powered armor suits. These were fast moving weapons platforms capable of carrying missiles, mortars, grenades, and multiple low-yield tactical nukes. Machine cannons were considered ineffective against the Bugs, so they were a fallback weapon for when you ran out of other ordinance. They were also well disciplined (mostly), had a training regimen designed to weed out unsuitable candidates, and operated on a foundation of well thought out rules and regulations. You do NOT want to go up against these guys.
