In other words...Rock, Austin, RVD, Y2J, Booker, and Angle were the only reason the Invasion survived at all lol...We must now prefer to them as the "Invasion 6" from this point on...it's only right lol
The triple threat match between Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, and Rob Van Dam was a good booking. I wish that match would have taken place at a much bigger PPV like SummerSlam.
I still can’t even begin to fathom how or why apart from “WWE logic” that they put two of the best workers in ECW with one of the best feuds in ECW (RVD & Jerry Lynn) and reduced it to a goddamn Sunday Night Heat match🤦🏻♂️ That could have been a show stealer had they capitalised on it
WWE could have waited until 2002 to book the Invasion Angle because this invasion angle was missing so many superstar's Triple H - returned from injury in January 02 Hulk Hogan - joined February 02 Scott Hall - joined February 02 Kevin Nash - joined February 02 Scott Steiner - joined in November 02 Rey Mysterio - debut in August 02 Chris Benoit - returned from injury in July 02 and many more superstar's missing from this WWE could have even had seperate show's for WCW & ECW after the invasion angle ended (it would have made them a sh!t ton of money)
@matt fahringer not necessarily from a business standpoint. Raw ratings tanked not long after that. They lost a lot of that remaining wcw fan base that suck around after the invasion when Booker lost that match. I know Conrad Thompson kinda looked up the numbers and stuff about this topic specifically for a podcast.
One of the matches that I remember the most from the Invasion angle was RVD defending the HardCore Title against Tajiri that took place on a Monday Night RAW
The Invasion was a "you had to be there" thing. The storyline overall may have been a clusterfuck, but week by week was entertaining. From Austin slowly unraveling, to Rock/Jericho going at it, to the McMahon siblings wreaking havoc, it was pure madness... and that was just the pre match stuff. Every night had a match that could've made the list. I think it gets flack now because so much happened in between that got lost in the fold which would've made the Invasion more fondly remembered if they were factored in.
I get legit annoyed when people don't remember how funny this time period was and how good Angle and Austin were every time they were on screen together. Invasion era holds some of my fondest wrestling memories. Edge and Christian breaking up, Spike and Molly, cowboy hat Kurt, Tajiri and Regal, the list goes on and on.
One of the most interesting *What If* in wrestling would’ve been if Goldberg made an appearance during the Invasion Angle. I wonder how that would’ve looked like.
You could say that about most of the top WCW guys that came after the fact (the NWO, Ric Flair, Scott Steiner, Goldberg and Sting). Damn. The more I think about it the more disappointed it makes me.
My favourite moment of the invasion is still the Rick's "it doesn't matter what your name is" to Booker T. [keeping the fact I said "the Rick" firmly in place for the lols]
RVD vs Kurt Angle vs Stone Cold Steve Austin at No Mercy 2001 is one of my favorite Triple Threat matches of all time. An underrated gem which I think people should check out!
Imagine if we had waited for all the stars to come. Goldberg/Sandman/RVD/Balls/Sabu/Big Poppa Pump/Sting/Hogan/Flair/Nash/Hall/HBK (return)/Rey Mysterio/ we really coulda had a true wwe vs wcw and ecw battle.
I've always been curious why the WWE didn't buy out/match the WCW (well, Turner) contracts. Obviously there were a number on guaranteed lucrative contracts who were happy to sit at home but if the WWE had bought them out/matched the basic salaries then I can't imagine they would have regretted it. The likes of the nWo (Hogan especially), Goldberg and Sting would likely have been multimillions each on merchandise. And the "dream" matches would have put PPV buyrates up considerably as well so, yeah- always seemed an odd choice.
Imagine how much wwe would of had to pay guys like hogan, nash, goldberg ect to work matches and not just sit on their asses and get payed. Don't think it would be to worth it
Great video, great matches but one minor gripe - matches like RVD vs Jeff are hardly forgotten, how about some focus on the undercard? I recommend the Hardy Boyz vs Hurricane & Lance Storm (underrated pairing) at No Mercy 01. It’s an amazingly hot opener, give it a look.
We all have fantasy bookings for this but I really feel like RVD, Mike Awesome, Booker T, O'Haire, and Palumbo all under heyman/biscoff at the helm would've have carried this storyline for probably over a year and do it well
Here's a card we coulda had 1-Balls Mahoney vs Big Show 2-US/IC Ladder Match Sabu vs RVD vs Jeff vs Rey vs Eddie vs Johnny Nitro 3-DX (HHH/HBK/New AgeOutlaws) vs nWo (w Xpac) 4-Flair vs Angel 5-Austin Vs Goldberg 6-Taker vs Sting Just one dream card right there patience coulda given us at invasion.
one of my favorite parts were every one wanted a title , so it made every title have more vaule because you had every one on the roster trying to win one. it gave more meaning to titles like the european title or hardcore title.
I also thought there was a chance of WWF losing this head to head for the simple fact is they were being sued by WWF (wildlife fund atm) and it was stared they were having to change their name. I remember thinking what if alliance does win and wwf changes their name to wcw or something. The timing was perfect really. We all knew they lost the rights to wwf. Which made some of us wonder...wait no are they gonna loose??
Honestly it was so nonsenical to me that I stopped watching until invasion was done. It was so awful, I couldn't stomach it anymore. Stone Cold representing WCW was a terrible move, should have just elevated DDP and Booker T.
We coulda had Austin vs Goldberg Austin vs Hogan Austin vs Sandman RVD vs HBK RVD/Sabu vs Hardyz RVD vs Sabu vs Jeff vs Johnny Nitro vs Eddie vs Rey vs Eddie in a Ladder Match Flair vs Angle Goldberg vs Taker when they both were in better shape Taker vs Sting Mike Awesome vs Taker Sandman vs Taker Rhyno vs Goldberg Balls vs Big Show Imagine if the invasion angle waited a fuckin a year or two. And all the Dream matches we coulda had. A real promotion vs promotion/promotion battle. DX vs nWo So much amazing shit.
Also, I just want to say, ECW literally wasn't even a factor in the actual Invasion. The only ECW representatives (of note) were the Dudley Boyz, RVD and Paul Heyman.
The invasion wasn’t great but it did produce a few bangers of matches. I was there live in Cleveland for RVD and Jeff Hardy at invasion and it was a great childhood memory I can look back on
What's up Cultaholic can you do Every Tna/impact Knockouts champion ranked from worst to best and could you also do a list of every female wrestling factions and every Tna/impact tag team champions, Wcw tag team champions and Roh tag team champions ranked from worst to best please.
Invasiòn stortline was great idea but floped. However, The invasion ppv main event, promo video package was amazing, match amazing, ending could have been better also survivor series 2001 promo goosebumps of electricity on that control puddle of mudd video. Great time to be wrestling fan.
I wish it was actually wwe vs ECW vs wcw no alliance..Austin joined the alliance was still dumb seeing he hated wcw frm firing him, they could of built ecw team legit as they was good wrestlers. Wcw without the big names could of still been good just make Booker and DDP look strong
