Usually when you see a giant shark swimming towards you, the last thing you want to do is jump in the water. But when these guys saw an injured ten foot long hammerhead shark floundering near this Florida beach, they jumped into action.
Surrounded by beach-goers with cameras in hand, these folks quickly worked to rescue the injured beast. Logan Lakos, one of the rescuers, knew hammerhead sharks are generally uninterested in attacking humans, so when he noticed this shark was clearly injured he decided to pull the shark in to shore to help it out. When the shark was stabilized, the makeshift rescue team worked to remove the two large fishing hooks lodged in its mouth.
Once the hammerhead was freed from the hooks, it was clearly in a state of confusion, and tried to swim into the shore.
Logan Lakos jumped into action again, guiding the shark away from the onlookers on the beach and out to the deep sea. The shark appeared to have no further injuries and once it found its bearings, was able to swim away successfully.
With the recent numerous videos of sharks on beaches (search Great White Shark on Cape Cod Beach), it is nice to see someone PREVENTING a shark from beaching itself, as we see here.

Joey Knelsen It's good to kill lots of different fish if we eat them. Swordfish, sailfish, tuna, sardines, haddock, salmon etc. Sharks are not endangered. Good eatin'. Don't cry, snowflake. You can eat carrots and bananas if you want. Keep calm. XOXO :*(

Sharks are pretty aware and have good navigational skills. This one probably came to his senses quick, but wanted to figure out exactly what had just happened to him. Some experts even think they stick around after humans remove hooks to "thank" them.

People fear sharks because they're huge and can fucking kill you. Do they eat people often? No. Do they attack because it is an instinct and we are invading their habitat? Sure. But they're still capable of eating humans whole and that, buddy, is terrifying.

this guy caught the hammer head on his fishing line then dragged it out of the water to "help it" when in reality was actually hurting. they are delicate and docile creatures and you shouldnt be fishing for sharks in the first place.. oh and the fact he was still pulling it around while it was in waist level water could have possibly drowned the shark due to water flushing inside of it.

okay... so i do hope they know that pulling a shark out of water is in fact suffocating it. i get it. its brave. whatever but pulling it out of the water AND dragging it backwards can just as easily kill the creature as that line stuck in its head. I dont mean this wrong, but we have professionals for this kind of thing 'For A Reason'. If you arent a professional you end up hurting yourself, others, and the shark. Stop this praise and foolishness, stop trying to bask in the moment, and seek PROFESSIONAL HELP cause one day it could be your life taken or the life of another. All your doing is becoming the danger, not helping get rid of it. Great video, thanks for helping, but don't do it again! For your sake, for the sharks sake, and for everyone who is around you... Key Phrase: Think Before You Act
@Living_Legacy
@Living_Legacy 8 лет назад
It wasn't completely out of the water, there were small waves hitting the shark, which works the same as pouring water over marine life that has been stranded on the beach or rocks as they wait for high tide or technology to get them back into the ocean. Also if he didn't grab onto the shark and pull it back, the shark most likely would have swimmed away before "professional" help could have gotten there.
@halevalen8768
@halevalen8768 8 лет назад
while them helping a shark is fine this time there are procedures to go through. What they did is a good thing dont get me wrong but did thet call a lifeguard to tell everyone to get out of the water? thats a procedure that a professional is required to do. Lets give a hypothetical, lets say the shark goes back into the water. Yay! Shark is better! However the shark is tired... winded... hungry... now heres the important one... scared. A shark that is scared is 50% more likely to attack on impulse then swim away as studies have shown. Now lets say someone was kinda far out in the water, like a distance swimmer training. The first thing that shark does is take a good healthy strong chomp of his leg. We are not their prefered food so likely the shark would spit him out BUT the damage is done. The swimmer is bleeding and now most likely infected. Get it? when i say theres a 'reason' for professionals i dont mean to say "this is why they get paid" but rather this is what they have trained for ans know more about then these kids. if you read this whole thing, i salute you as well and respect you for it.

Brave or not, is it worth risking your life or a limb? Depends how much you value your life. Fact is shark skin is used to make sandpaper, which is needed. Therefore risking your life to save something that could kill you is stupid. Risking your life to save a person is what counts the most. Saving an animal because you admire their strength and abilities, or your curiosity has little meaning behind your intentions. Know the difference.
@smsuperman1219
@smsuperman1219 9 лет назад
***** A million ridiculous examples don't count. Regardless of their intentions, animal or human, both will kill people. That's why I said it was dangerous for the kid for doing what he did. The shark was messed up didn't know what it was doing. It could have attacked him. He said he wasn't afraid because in school he learned hammerheads have no interest in people, but that shark was doing abnormal things, swimming back to shore, and who knows what might have happened. Because no one was hurt he is a hero. If he lost a limb or died, people would be saying he's stupid. There are people who do evil. Did I say those are the ones worth dying for? So you are blaming everyone for the actions of criminals? If that's how it is, do you hate yourself, your family, or friends for actions none of them have done? Will you judge them and say they are evil and none of you are worth saving?
@bambikill7801
@bambikill7801 9 лет назад
+smsuperman Maybe he thought the risk was worth it? I would have done the same. The shark wasn't large enough to kill him. He handled it very, very well and did everything right, carefully and effectively handling and directing it. A fish is a fish, be it a shark or a pike - and by that I mean how you handle them, their movements and basic patterns of behaviour. Any fisherman should be able to handle a shark this size on land. In the water, he was at much larger risk of a bite, but he stayed in control of the situation. (In case you might think that I wouldn't know how to handle fast and teethy creatures, I do. I've worked at a zoo, mainly with large reptiles.) I would personally risk a bite or shark rash to save it. I wouldn't risk my life to save a shark. But risking a finger or two would be worth it. I guess we're all different people...
@smsuperman1219
@smsuperman1219 9 лет назад
+Bambi Kill lol You keep making things up as you go along. First comment means that one should value ones life more than an animal that would kill you. Get out of the house and get some fresh air.

smsuperman No. But it doesn't really matter what you think. :) Since your replies do not, in any way, offer any constructive nor relevant arguments, there is no point in bickering. A good day to you and bye.
@smsuperman1219
@smsuperman1219 9 лет назад
+Bambi Kill Nice try. Agreed. It doesn't matter what Bambi thinks. Bambi bit off more than she could chew and now leaves, throwing a jab while doing so. Typical youtube know it all. I can read you. You gotta learn to love yourself and understand your worth regardless of what others think. Good and bad things don't last forever. There will always be new good and bad things in anyone's life. Do your best knowing nothing is ever perfect, and judging yourself never helps. Arrogance creates insecurity making you believe you need to be more, do more to be great. Truth is everyone already is. They just don't see that. Meditation is key and something everyone should learn.
