Grand Rapids native & current Detroit resident. Happy to see the city highlighted in a positive light. I fell further in love with this city upon each visit and decided to move here immediately after college 4 years ago.
Just want to say as a Canadian across the river, I love Detroit. So many great things to do and it’s a city with a great vibe and great people. Often go to Detroit for sporting events (Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons and Lions) and live theatre. Have never had a negative experience. Thanks for the great video on a great city. Detroit is the Comeback City. 👏👏👍🇨🇦
I want to say as someone who grew up and lives in Virginia, Detroit is my favorite US city! I fell in love with the city when I first came to visit in 2014 right after the bankruptcy and I decided to volunteer at a tree farm with my mother in 2015. We both loved the architecture, the international riverfront, downtown, people mover, and the nice people in the Motor City. Sadly, my mother passed away 5/7/24 at the age of 70 from Bile Duct Cancer. I'm going back to Detroit next month to honor her by volunteering again and doing some more sightseeing including Motown Museum, The Henry Ford, Eastern Market, Tigers game at Comerica Park and the Detroit Institue of Arts! For you MOM! RIP
We have never been to Detroit but seems like there is so much to do! Thanks for showing us around! The restaurant at the Renaissance center has such incredible views! I also added taking a boat tour first and taking a walk after by the Riverwalk on my to do list once we make it there. Your home is beautiful ❤️
Kudos to you for representing your city! 👏🏽 You highlighted some of my favorites. I’m also from Michigan, and have always loved the vibe and beauty of downtown. Keep up the excellent work!
thank you! I've been to Detroit many times cause one of my best friends used to live in Windsor but I'd never considered going into the old buildings you went into although I'd photographed their exteriors many times! going this weekend and def will do that.
Might be going off tangents here, but over the years since we started recovering from covid lockdowns, I started loving Detroit much more than any city in the Tri-State Area. When I take mass transit like as Long Island Railroad, Metro-North Railroad, and New Jersey Transit RR (NJT cancellations COUGH COUGH), I picture myself in Detroit at every station stopped at or bypassed! I also picture myself in Detroit when I eat at various places in the Tri-State Area. Detroit and its surrounding Metro Areas in my opinion also have SO MANY super friendly people, especially girls/women, and I think about all the vibes spread when using mass transit in my home region. I am DYING to visit this beautiful city someday! 💞💞💞💞
Welcome to my hometown of Detroit Michigan! It's a pleasure to share a bit of where I've from with you. My question to you though is have you ever toured your hometown like a tourist? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below!
My plan is to tear up all those vacant lots to just bare dirt and return all that space back to rich, fertile farmland, just like it was at one time. You can grow all kinds of wonderful produce and hire bunches of people to work it. Plus it will feed thousands and be a win-win.
FYI... Belle Isle is NOT FREE. There is a small fee to get on to the island that must be paid at the entrance, but with that fee you have access to everything on the island. I personally pay annually for tge Metro Park Pass (about $15) when I renew my license plate tags, and that gives me a year of unlimited access to ALL Metro Parks in the State of MI... and there are hundreds of parks in MI.
So many great things to so. We were there many many uears ago and saw the Red Wings play at the Joe Louis Arena. We saw the Riverwalk from Windsor when we were there. Definitely need to make a trip back to Detroit for some more sightseeing.
It’s so awesome that you made a travel video in your hometown! It really looks like an amazing city and so much to do! The river cruise would be top of our list, the views look great!
As we don't like cold weather, we personally would recommend Memphis in November. Enjoy the music on Beale Street! Come to Detroit in the summer when you can take the cruise and really enjoy Belle Isle.
Downtown Detroit resident here for 16 years now and have never regretted one day. I love living here, so much to do , such nice people, incredible architecture and history, great restaurants and culture, museums first class entertainment shows at wonderful theaters, and really nice biking and walking trails. Bellisle is absolutely beautiful to spend a day out at around the water. Love this city, and I do love all four seasons, great video.
Detroit is a city rising from the ashes. This city gets a bad rap. There is wonderful architecture, plenty of restaurants, beautiful natural scenery, a gorgeous riverside walkway, a city owned restored park island, casinos, a ton of hotels, major league sports teams, a world class art museum, just to name a few of the attractions. Detroit is indeed a city on the rise!!
SHAME on you Kendra!! How could you NOT have went inside the Fisher Building?!? I went in there in 1988,rode the elevator to the 28th floor,walked-around the empty floor, and saw a beautiful mahogany door, opened it to see a bunch of stairs;went up these stairs, and found myself inside the green roof of it,as I looked down upon the"Tastefest"crowds enjoying themselves from a 412-foot vantagepoint!!
Thank you for sharing your home town with us. It’s fun exploring your hometown like a tourist, Detroit looks really cool. Love what you said at the end about starting somewhere but not having to end up there 🌎❤️
I'm ua talk to this Girl. I like you, but i don't see us thinking about Detroit! I am a Native. What this means for you, but me to see a person is to love them. Bye.
Thank you for the wonderful tour. I'm planning my first trip to your beautiful town this Winter, although I won't be able to see some of the Summer items you listed, I'm not excited that I could make a reservation the Ren Cen and have lunch with such a lovely view. Thank you so much again!
That's cool you're from Detroit, Kendra - I didn't know that! I spent 6 years in Michigan just an hour away from the city and only got to 1 of these! Great video :)
@@LucasWorldTravel So true! And thanks for asking, we are crawling along - got a realtor and prepping our house to sell maybe in the spring! I've been wondering: how did you sell all your stuff? Craigslist, yard sale, eBay? :)
@@megahern8467 Facebook marketplace worked well for selling our larger items like furniture, and we did a yard sale for our smaller household items. We were able to get rid of quite a bit that way. The rest went to goodwill. Glad you guys are taking your steps. Houses are selling fast these days so best of luck to you both in the spring!
Cool that you made a video in your hometown as a tourist! I always love your positive vibe and you inspire me to go and do more! Interesting to see Detroit, looks lovely! 😊
@@LucasWorldTravel yes, will do! In one week we are going on our holiday to Dubrovnik, Mostar and Sarajevo! Can't wait! PS: We are watching all your videos in order from oldest to newest, we have seen you have new ones from Iceland, which we are very excited about once we get to them!!
Oh man, I have be living SE Michigan more than 20 years, I only been in fisher and eastern market, thank you for making my this weekend must to do list🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Been a long while since we've spoken. Did not know you were from Detroit. I'm from Toledo originally. Family in Detroit and have spent a lot of time in Detroit and Windsor. Thanks for the memories and go Tigers!!
I hate to be THAT person, but detroit is a piece of shit 💀 i live near that area and there is so much crime there, so if you do make the painful decision to go, be aware of your surroundings. Its a very dirty place, and just not a pleasant place overall. Yes, it does have its perks and can be cool i guess, but residents of the state hate going into detroit for work or for anything really, but yeah
I agree with u. The guy running his mouth has never been in the ghetto after dark. One question to all u ghetto lovers. Would u rather take a wrong turn at nite in the ghetto or a wrong turn at nite in macomb twp. I rest my case.
Just make sure you bring your gun with you and always have somebody watching your back. it can go down real quick in Detroit I wouldn't go down there for nothing
